Good Morning,
Look who is peeking out of her stall at BARN 55! It is my dear baby sister, EBLOUISSANTE! We have the same MOM, Vertigineaux, but our sires are different. My DAD is STREET CRY and her’s is BERNARDINI.
John keeps teasing that he would know those EARS anywhere! The first time he saw “E” at Winter Quarter Farm last year, she was in a field with several other yearlings. He got out of the car, looked around for literally one short moment, and said…”there she is, Zenny’s sister”. He felt her body carriage and fabulous EARS were definitely a huge clue. Those qualities truly reminded him of ME!
Per John, Eblouissante is also very, very inquisitive. (Sound familiar???) She wants to always check everything out that is going on in the barn and she pays close attention to all that is happening around her. (If I say so myself, I THINK SHE IS PRETTY SMART too!)
As you can see, she does not have any white on her. Per the Jockey Club, she is considered to be dark bay-brown / black in color. “E” is also a good-sized girl, I know that feeling, with a great shoulder and hip! Our MOM had a great deal of size and presence….so I’m sure some of this we inherited from HER! Lucky Us!
From all reports, “E” is adapting very well to her new environment and really catching on well to the training routines at Barn 55!
John said he’d keep us ALL posted on how she is doing! As her BIG SISTER, I hope I can offer some great advice to her as we go along! Dottie has mentioned to ME that is something big sisters often do!
In reality, that is what is so much fun right now for ME…I can also help to TEACH things to my family and friends drawing upon my wide range of challenges, life-experiences, and accomplishments!
Have a fabulous Tuesday!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(Especially my dear baby sister, Eblouissante!)

Dear Paula Higgins:
Just read the article you referenced. In addition to the great parts about Z, there are facts in the article about Mike that I had never read before. Very interesting. Thanks. Hugs, J.B.

Your sister is definitely a beautiful young filly…she will be on my ‘favorites’ list. I understand that Mr. Sherriffs also has another young filly in his barn named Violet Rose. According to her pedigree online, she is also your half-sister (sire is Street Cry), owned by Mr. & Mrs. Moss. I hope that this is true, as this will give all of us several new crop ‘favorites’ to watch develop and follow, the same as we did with you!
Zenyen
Huh.
I don’t know if this will ever get answered but I just saw a lovely picture of Zenny on her Facebook album. She’s on the track with her exercise rider and her pony beside her. Her exercise rider is carrying a dressage whip and has Zenny in a very nice piaffe almost.
Was dressage training part of Zenny’s training with Sherrifs? Something for suppleness and collection maybe given how big she is?
Kendra
So, Mike Smith had visa problems and was not allowed to ride on Monday…? Sounds like he will be allowed to race on Thursday, though. Wishing him Good Luck. Zeny, I bet you miss him. Sweet Dreams.
Jan
Zenyatta,
Your sister E is a little Sweetheart, and you are a Big Sweatheart :)
suew
ZenYen, about the dressage whip you saw…Steve said in her 4th year Zenny acquired a bad habbit of bumping into her excercize pony and the way they broke her of it was to use the whip around her legs. They never really struck her but brought it close enough to get her attention. Steve’s GF was a dressage rider who recommended the whip and it worked! John has some interesting and inovative training techniques. What makes him great is his ability to listen and learn from others as well.

I got to meet your little sister “E” on Preakness Day Z. I couldn’t wait to see her in person and she does not disappoint. In addition to your ears she’s got your very sweet nature Z. As soon as I approached her she stepped forward and completely licked my arms and hands off. She is in good hands now and everyone @ Barn 55 is happy to have her there. Keep the pictures coming.
Zenyen
@Suew
Ahhh, that makes sense! I’m sure Hooty appreciate it!! :D

Hi Zenny, I’m sure you are quite excited about E being at barn 55 for her training. You know John will do her good and it will be good to see her develope into a good racehorse. It will be fun for you to watch and advise. You have to remember that she will have her own style and you will have to go with that. Have fun big sis. We will be watching for her to hit the racetrack. E is big but not as big as you, she is 16.3 hands and you are 17.5 hands. Her racing style will probably be different. We will be anxious to see her style once she races. How good for John to be her trainer. He will surely bring out the best in E. Love you truely Zenyatta and hope we will hear soon on news of yo being in foal.
Char
I hope little “E” likes to run as much as you did. You were magnificent, and I miss seeing you race…
Joan

Hi Zenny, so good to see a pic of your sis she’s a stunner. Please thank John and Dottie and of course Mr. Kronfeld for letting us see her, don’t know what the protocol is but I’m sure the owner must approve. It will be great to have some John horses to follow while we wait for your baby.
Ensign, thank you for your informative and accurate posts, I don’t know how you get the info but it’s great to have an insider among us.
Mary Bobolis, congrats on your winning bid on the Z halter, where are you going to put it?
Luv you Zen kisses on your nose

Good Evening Queen “Z” your baby sister is adorable. I agree the ears are a dead give a away!
Loved the article on Brass Hat. Nice to hear happy endings!
Good Luck to Mike in England. Sorry he couldn’t get additional mounts due to some restrictions.
My heart goes out to those in Missouri and now Oklahoma. The devastation is horrible. Donations are needed! Let all us Z’Fans show them how its done!
Hugs and Kisses

NewTo
I am new to this site, but Ensign just seems to
Know everything about Zenyatta’s supposed second
Pregnancy ie when she was bred, how far along she is,
Pictures of US etc. Perhaps he should call Bloodhorse
under the name of Will Farrish and make the official
Announcement. Then we can all relax. I am sure LE,
And The Mosses would not mind. Probably would
Be appreciative, don’t you think?

Hey, Anyone: Turner Classic Movies has offered a series of ‘children & horses’ films tonight — I missed the first few — but there is one on now, British & 3 stars, ‘Run Wild, Run Free.’ Just turned it on, but may be worth a look.
Teena Dennis
E is sure a beauty! You are right, I would recognize those ears anywhere. I definitely see the family resemblance!
Quarterhossgal

Zen might not be a mommy but maybe her gift to the world is her incredible spirit. That is really more than enough.

Haskin’s Preakness wrap up is such a great article.
It really describes Dale Roman how he has gone
From family hot walked barn kid to a champion trainer.
A very touching story. He also describes Shakelford’s
Explosive personality. Tenacity really describes it.
Really love Steve Haskins articles, blogs
Abigail you were sooo lucky to write for him and
Be recognized by him. He is so superb at his game.

@a Judy B:loved the video! I forwarded it to several friends. There is a horse from River Edge Farm Horse Resue (who is on the website under “adopted horses”) who has a spinal deformity but he is now the companion and “seeing eye horse” for a blind draft horse mare. He stays right with her out in the pasture and she follows him to water, etc. He really found his niche!
@all the extremely kind posters re: my work at the rescue:thank you-but the angels are the horses! I feel SO lucky!
RE: Eblouissante: she is a dark bay, so maybe her knickname should be “Ebay”!

P.S. thank you all for great links and info about Citation! I learn something every day here!

I think there should be a “Zenyatta Stakes” in all parts of the country, North, South, East, and West. “The Very One” has two stakes named after her, one at Pimlico and one at Gulfstream. “Zenyatta” is twice the mare the “The Very One” was so she deserves 4 races named after her. I worked for Helen Polinger, the owner of “The Very One”, back in 1991 the last year “The Very One” was alive. We speak every year before the Gulfstream race. Helen thinks the Gulfstream race is more representative of her horse because basically “The Very One” was a grass, route horse although she won a couple sprinting. The Pimlico Stakes is a 5 ½ furlong grass race while the Gulfstream race is the same distance as the Preakness, 1 3/16 miles on the lawn. She raced against “Jonh Henry” 3 times, with her best finish a 3rd at SA just 1 1/2 lengths back at 1 3/4 miles . She was also second in the 1980 edition of the Washington D. C. International only 1 length behind “Argument”. In the International Helen told me that the Jock disobeyed his instructions and went right to the front when he was told to RATE or she might have won it. “The Very One” raced against the boys many times in her 71 starts. She beat some nice filly/mare grass horses too.
.
So my vote is for 4 Zenyatta Stakes.

Don’t know if you guys talked about it but if Zenny is not in foal this year would you consider bringing her to this years Breeders Cup for a little dance, parade, and applause? It’s not like you have to ship in from Barn 55.
