Happy Friday to All,
As you know, Dottie and John are at Pimlico for the Preakness with Mr. Commons. I gather he is being one terrific guy. He trained nicely this morning and got a chance to see all of the surroundings. They have large tents up in the infield, and he looked at all of them. It was nice for him to get to see ALL OF IT and get used to this different type of infield environment. Later this afternoon, he will school and visit the paddock as well. So many things to learn, to do, and to accomplish! I remember it well!
In addition to all of the things going on with the Preakness, Dottie told ME that no matter where she and John went….. PEOPLE ASKED ABOUT ME! ME….now isn’t that TOO CUTE! I am so flattered! They wanted to know how I’m doing, how much I love my life now….and of course, the big question, how much have Bernie and I been dating.? Katherine and Carol asked John and Dottie for a photo op with them….which, of course, they did! Steve Haskins asked them to do a video clip…..and guess who he mentioned to Dottie? ME! They also met Ann Maree, who often writes responses in my Diary. All of this is so special and such fun.
The weather has been very pleasant so far and tomorrow, Preakness Day, is supposed to be beautiful! So, HOOVES CROSSED for a great RACE DAY!
WOW! People are asking about ME! This statement has such a nice RING TO IT! Thank you so much for BEING SO THOUGHTFUL and caring!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Goodnight Sweet “Z” and Mr. “C”,
I am settling in now too. I have a high tea I am preparing for tomorrow for a meeting. No black-eyed Susans unfortunately.. but would be willing to try one sometime for the sake of Connoisseur-ism :) I’m thinking of you “Z” as I wash the crunchy watercress and sprouts for the tea sandwiches. YUM. Mr. “C”, sleep tight tonight – the secret may be out tomorrow! I will be cheering for you.

@Judy (Maass) Gadwood—John Henry sent you Zenny! TOO CUTE! Thanks for shaing.
@Signofthetimes—Thanks for the good distinction between the sleeping habits of horses safe in their stall (or boxcar, as was often the case for Seabiscuit) and horses in a pasture.
@Doreen—Thanks for the link to the great video of Dottie and John talking about Mr. Commons and our Zenny.
@Jon—Very interesting that they still always acknowledge the Queen at end of every racing day at Hollywood Park. It’s good to know.
@Robyn Mullhausen—I’m sorry you aren’t able to handle the necessary walking to get inside to meet John and Dottie at Pimlico—such a pity. So close and yet so far.
@ Mr. Commons—Go, Mr. Commons, go!

Dearest Zenyatta. Just saw the great video of your beloved Dottie and John in their interview with Steve. It was so special to see them together, talking about Mr. Commons and of course beautiful you!!! Hope John got a chance to visit with you while he was in Kentucky. The feelings Dottie expressed about you were wonderful, as always and you could tell John was very proud of Mr. Commons and how he has developed. Wishing everyone a fantastic Preakness Day, especially you, Zenny!! Sweet dreams. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
@Barbara Wood, Lori K, DJ, Sue Noel, Sharon Call, Sue Frederick, Peppermint, Kathy Kimber, Linda in NJ, S (in San Diego) – I am remaining very positive that everything will turn out just fine after my tests, but it certainly helps a great deal to hear all of your prayers and well wishes, along with great recommendations of the Mayo Clinic. Thank you all so much!!!!!
@Trina Nagele, Diane S, JSmith, Kirren Dolan – How wonderful that you would all like to get together!! I would really enjoy that, but unfortunately the nature of the trip itself along with the tightness and uncertainty of my schedule may make it difficult to do so. I would love it if you could send me your info just in case something does work out. My work e-mail is dawn.conrad@usbank.com. You are all great! Thanks!!!
@Susan in TN – Congrats on the special announcement of your new colt. I am sure it does not take long to fall head over heals in love with all of the horses. I know it would be the same for me. Thank you too, for your prayers and well wishes. Keep letting us know about this wonderful adventure of yours. :)
@Robin S – What a fantastic gift you have gotten for your husband. I can’t imagine how hard it will be to keep the secret with that big smile I am sure you have on your face! The bronze is just too beautiful!!
@Amanda Gilliland – LOVE the ZYATTA!!
@The Kennedys – The Preakness Party sounds great!! Hope you and your guests have a fantastic and fun time.
@Brooke – So wonderful you to hear from you again. Your words about loving horses and how they should be treated were very special! Sounds like you have some amazing items from some very famous horses, including your new Uncle Mo hat. TOO FUN!!
@Shari – My dear friend, so good to hear from you. Sounds like Homeroom 215 has been having a fantastic time celebrating Preakness week. I am glad that they received a gift from their favorite Uncle Mo. I am sure all of their cards and well wishes helped him to feel better. You are all very special and TOO CUTE!

Just a thought here…how about Zendini’s Wink for the name of a future baby? I combined Zendini–which has been a popular choice with Zennie’s wink that she was giving earlier this week.
Cheryl Harshall
You are number one, Zenny, and we always want to know about you first!
Yvonne and Maurice Kirby
Hi Zenyatta. What a great picture of Mr. Commons – wow, he seems so relaxed. Good luck to him – let us all see a safe, good race! Someday, we may see your 3 year old baby going for the triple crown – wouldn’t that be just awesome, too cute. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think fondly of you and wait to see your diary. You are thought of by so many and loved by all. Love you, enjoy the weather, your family and friends, eat well, have fun watching the races with your BBFs. Love you, Angel in Disguise.
Amanda Gilliland
GoodNight Sweet Lady Zenyatta, I hope Mr.Commons has a goodnight’s rest too. If I could I would give you a hug & kiss and say sweet dreams with love, Amanda G.
@Saron-I’m University of Alabama alumni, that’s UA, Auburn U is AU. The cleanup is very slow from the tornado. It will just take time. Thanks so much for asking.

@Dawn Conrad-I didn’t know about your tests, I went back trying to find your post about them but I will put you on my prayer list and I pray that all test will come back with good news. The Mayo Clinic is a geat place. Please let us know how things go. You have such a positive attitude and I know that means a lot when you are going through something with your health.

I finished preparing my tea sandwiches, and I will say “Z”, that I cannot pull off the cuteness factor with greens hanging from the side of MY mouth! I do have a a prayer for you, ‘your’ Mikey and all of those who love you and all horses! The author is unknown. It is titled:
…………………………………..
FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HORSES
Dearest God in Heaven, give me strength to guide my horse.
Make my hands soft and my head clear.
Let my horse understand me and I him.
My heart, you have blessed with a special love of these animals, let me never lose sight of it.
My soul, you have gifted with a deep need for them, let that need never lessen.
Always, let my breath catch as the sun gleams on an elegant head.
Always, may my throat tighten at the sound of a gentle nicker.
Let the scent of fresh hay and a new bag of grain always be sweet to me.
Let the warm touch of a warm nose on my hand always bring a smile.
I adore the joy of a warm day on the farm. The grace and splendor of a running horse, the thunder of its hooves makes my eyes burn and my heart soar, let it always be so.
Dearest God, grant me patience, for horses are harnessed wind and wind can be flighty.
Let me not frighten or harm them, instead show me ways to understand them.
Above all, fill my life with them.
When I pass from this world, send my soul to no heaven without them.
For this love you have given me graces my existence and I shall cherish it for all time.
Vicki B.
In line with all those who also commented on dire prognostications, a friend wrote on FB: “Just to remind folks the end of the world is due tomorrow so probably best to make some sandwiches.” A practical thought for everyone on Preakness Day.

Dear Zenyatta it is late and I just want to say good night sweet girl. I see Brooke wrote to you. She is special to me and I hope someday Brooke and I can meet you in person. I am afraid I would do a lot of crying (happy tears) but I am a major weeper :) Zenny I really don’t know much about betting but I played two dollars on Animal Kingdom and two on Mr. Commons. It was fun. Good luck to all the horses with safe rides for all the Jockeys. Sweet dreams. Hugs and Kisses from ShariXXXOOO
@Dawn keep me posted on how things go. Your always in my prayers.
@Brooke you are a very special girl. God Bless You Always :)

Dear Z, I’m looking forward to watching the Preakness tomorrow and rooting Mr. Commons on and wishing all horses and jockeys a safe trip. As for you, you will never be forgotten and always in the minds and hearts of tens of thousands. It’s the Zenyatta effect!
@Dawn Conrad, I’m a little behind in reading all the Diary comments but have read your posts and will be thinking positive and loving thoughts about your upcoming tests at Mayo Clinic (an absolutely fabulous facility). Please let us know your results and may Zenyatta herself and your fabulous bronze sculpture smile on you as you undergo the next steps in your life.
Sunny Boyd

DJ…thank you for the poem about people that love horses. After having horses in my life the last 40 years I can’t imagine being without them. I love spending time with them, even mucking their stalls. There is nothing like the smell of fresh hay or the sound of a horse quietly enjoying his food. Zenny just allows us to put our feelings into words. Good luck Mr. Commons!
Peggy
@DJ the poem was beautiful…..
Paula Higgins
Good luck to Mr. Commons and Makoma tomorrow! As for Zenyatta, we will be asking about her for many more years to come. She is unforgettable, inspiratonal and a permanent fixture in our hearts.
Judy (Maass) Gadwood Adores Zenny (CA)
@Amanda Gilliland and @Trina Nagele: Thank you, both! Yup, John Henry was a one-of-a-kind horse, just like his “adopted sister” Zenny! :-P He adores her and watches over her always XO
BTW I’m so into Zenyatta, that I’ve more than once called my cat Zenyatta! LOL my cat’s name is Hayley! Go figure… :-)
Marshall (girl's name)
