Good Morning,
HAPPY KENTUCKY OAKS DAY! What a special day! In our camp, we are CHEERING ON ZAZU! Look…even the fans LOVE Z’s! They are putting the initial Z on their front door! John just had to take this photo when he saw it!
ZAZU is in Post 6 in a field that is carded with a total of 13 horses. She will be right in the middle of the field when standing in the gate. With her running style, which is a bit like mine coming from off the pace, this is a very good post. Her jockey, Joel Rosario, knows her well and will hopefully get her in the perfect position at the start, let her drop back just enough and then finish strong. (Sounds GREAT to ME!)
We will all be wearing some PINK today as well. Churchill Downs has the fundraising for cancer awareness on Oaks Day! What a great, great idea to help with cancer research.
Zazu’s jockey will also be wearing pink…as OUR SILKS are pink and green!
LET’S GO ZAZU! You know I will be cheering you on!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Great job Zazu! You are beautiful and we enjoyed watching you.
@ audreyc Thanks for your information about your mare and her low tail set, it was very interesting.
Good Luck to all who are running tomorrow and a safe trip to all!
Zenny, Are you going to sip a Guiness as you watch the races?
Dawn Conrad
Dearest, Zenyatta. What a special day at Churchill Downs. The sun shone on Kentucky and the crowd was amazing. The fundraising events that took place for breast cancer were wonderful with some gorgeous hats and outfits on display. It was great to see the survivors walk on the track amid a sea of pink. Zazu did a fantastic job coming in third. When they showed a close up of her in the stall before the race, she took my breath away. How beautiful she is. Congrats to Plum Perfect, Bob Baffert was so excited, he literally jumped for joy, just like you Zenny. The interview concerning the scratching of Uncle Mo was heartbreaking. I pray he returns to good health soon. Here’s wishing the best of luck to everyone tomorrow and safe trips for all. Hope you have been enjoying the sunshine and precious family time, Zenny. Sweet dreams. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
@Brooke – So nice to hear from you again. I am glad that you had a fun day in class, the cupcakes sound yummy. I am sure you look just TOO CUTE, as Zenny would say, in your new shirt.
@Karen Mitchell – Thank you for your comments, they are too kind. Nina was great and I cannot wait to actually touch her magnificent tribute to Zenyatta, #19!
Yvonne and Maurice Kirby
Hi Zenyatta. What a great day of racing. Zazu ran great, coming in third. She showed so much heart. We are so sorry that Uncle Mo has been scratched from the Derby, we had our t-shirts and hats ready to wear and I thought I would be going to Belmont for the triple crown. The whole card looks awesome and we just pray for a safe day for all horses and humans alike. We are sure you are having a great time with your whole family visiting you. Be your usual gorgeous self, eat well and have loads of fun with your family and your BBFs. Love you, Angel in Disguise.
KIMBERLY
Hi Queen, Have fun watching the Derby tomorrow… Sorry but racing just isn’t the same without the wonderful ZENYATTA!
Nitey Nite ZZZZZZZ.
Amanda Gilliland
My Sweet Lady Zenyatta, I was so proud of ZaZu! She ran so hard and I wanted to tell her she did good. She finished 3rd and that’s still great!Early this morning I read in Bloodhorse about Uncle Mo being scratched. I am so sorry for his Team. I hope they can figure out what’s wrong with him. It’s so sad to see such a really good horse not able to do what he loves to do-race. I’m looking forward to The Derby so much. It can be any horse’s win. I hope you have had a geat visit with your family this week. Sweet Dreams Z! Sending Hugs & Kisses From Alabama With Love, Amanda G.
Joan
Zazu ran well and Mike managed a fourth with Joyful Victory so I hope all their connections are happy tonight. I was rooting for them both. I hope you have a wonderful visit with your family while they are in Kentucky.

To Susan in Tn.:
PBS “Thoroughbred” documentary was excellent.
So glad Mo’s connections are taking such good care of him. Hope he is 100 percent better soon.
Zazu closed really well for third. Was disappointed for Daisy Devine. Love that name. Rooting for Bernie’s boy in the Derby.
Z, we love you. Love to all of you. Judy and Russ

@Anna Wiley, Marilu V, and all other fans of Uncle Mo—It is indeed a sad turn of events that Uncle Mo won’t be in the Derby. Do you follow him on his Facebook page? On his page they linked to the joint interview that his owner Mike Repole and his trainer Todd Pletcher gave when they announced they were scratching him from the Derby. You can hear in Mike Repole’s voice how choked up he is. They said the vets weren’t really sure what was causing the health problem. We all wish Uncle Mo the best and hope he will be well soon. In the meantime, we are thankful that his team is doing what is best for him. You can see the interview at BloodHorse.com. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/videos/watch/0335F2C8-93CA-4D85-971E-DEFDB065CED2
@ zenyattaloveramy!—I’m with you!
@Max—Please continue to keep us in the loop about the great Frankel.

I am sorry that your Zazu lost. There will be many more races ahead for Zazu to show what she is made of. Tomorrow is almost upon us, what an exciting Derby this one will be.
Love you Zenyatta

Hi Everyone, Sometimes reflecting on the past helps us remember how GREAT Zenyatta is. I loved this article and it was so spot on:

Dear Zenny and friends, I wouldn’t dare bet on such a wide-open Derby field, but I WILL bet on this: Sunday is Mother’s Day and given that Zenny and Dottie and Ann and all the girls are “Too Cute” they will announce a “mother to be” – YOU, Zenny! Diana in Tempe
Max
Here is Zazu running her race. She looked good.

Dear Zenyatta Good Morning special girl. Some of my students have posted to you. I am proud of them. Brooke and Kaycie love you and are really into the horses. We all felt sad for Uncle Mo but his family is doing what is best for him. I hope Stay Thirsty does well. Team Z did great with Zazu. She placed and to me that is a victory. Well sweet girl enjoy the day and the visits from your loving family and friends. I love you and so do all the children in Homeroom 215. You are our HERO. Hugs and Kisses from Shari XXXOOO
@Dawn thank you for the kind words to Brooke. She is a very special young lady :)
Abigail from Montreal
@ Brooke and Kaycie: it’s great that you’re both writing on Zenyatta’s page! I’m an adult now but as a little girl I was horse-crazy just like you two. I would have loved to have the internet & a Zenyatta page to meet other thoroughbred fans when I was a girl. Encourage all your friends to write here too — Zenyatta would love to hear from all of you!
@ Shari Voltz: I’m actually a retired teacher and thanks to the encouragement of Zenyatta, Team Z & Steve Haskin, I have started my own horse racing blog that focuses on connecting great thoroughbreds of the past to the present. It is written for thoroughbred fans primarily & called THE VAULT. Here’s the address — who knows? It might be useful in your classroom curriculum!

I haven’t had a chance to read all the posts so I apologize if this is a repeat but for those who haven’t seen it, there is a great documentary/movie titled “The First Saturday In May” by the Hennegan Brothers. It follows the 2006 Kentucky Derby trail of six horses and their trainers. It is very informative and gives great insight into all that it takes to get into the Kentucky Derby. One really gets the feel of how much heart and soul of all the people involved and the horses goes into it. One of the featured horses is dear Barbaro. I would definitely recommend getting a copy if you haven’t seen it yet. Amazon is a good resource. Again, I apologize if someone has already mentioned it.
Hooves crossed for a safe day for everyone and Happy Mother’s Day to all! Even if you are not a mom, celebrate the wonderful woman that you are! Great run Zazu and horse snuggles to Zenny!
Jackie
Good Morning Queen “Z” I was dissappointed Zazu did not win. However, she ran a great race. Third is not so bad! It was fun to hear the annoucers talking about Zazu who is owed by Jerome and Ann Moss and who own the “GREAT ZENYATTA”. Boy are they right!
I hope the weather is not too bad for the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby. Good Luck to Mikey! Wishing all the riders a safe trip!
A special wish to Uncle Mo. I hope the determine his illness and he makes a speedy recovery! The Derby will not be the same without him.
To all mothers out there wishing you all a wonderful Mother’s Day. Perhaps we will hear some special news that our Queen will be a MOM!
Hugs and Kisses
Jackie

Dearest Zenyatta—Your Zazu ran a gallant race yesterday, as I’m sure your Ann and Dottie told you. I bet they gave her some well-deserved treats afterwards. Does Zazu like peppermints as much as you do? I hope Ann and Dottie will get to spend some more quality time with you before they head back to California. I’ll be rooting for your Bernie’s offspring, Stay Thirsty, in the Derby. Go, Thirsty, go!
Please thank John for the great photos he shares with us, and thanks always to Dottie for this wonderful page.
@Robin S—Thank you for the info about the documentary movie “The First Saturday In May.” I’ll look for it on Amazon.
Pam Zacek,
Good for Zazu, third place, and going strong is the best , not hurt, nothing, like that, and good luck to all the derby running, today, praying safe trip for them all, and I am betting, on the women Jockey, be a great, tribute to Queen Z, in a way, don’t ya all thing>>>>>
Cindy from LA
@Max
Thanks for the great article on Master of Hounds.
He is a very regal looking horse and we will all have
To wait and see. So many times the favorite dosen’t
Win.
He caught my eye with his name as I have in the
Past done some fox hunting which is a very fun and challenging
Spot.
May the best horse win the Derby today safely !!!!
Sport.
Max
Cindy from LA. Master of Hounds is a good looking colt. He has a larger blaze than Frankel but resembles him. They share the Northern Dancer bloodline. The star blaze on Stay Thirsty may come from there too. Storm Bird is Thirsty’s dam sire. I also hope that all goes well today and everyone comes home safely.
Marilu V
@ Trina: Thank you for the information on Uncle Mo and the link. I hope the Vets will diagnose the problem and he is on his way to recovery.
Hope you are feeling good today Zeny!Hugs and Hugs, Marilu
