Good Morning,
HAPPY KENTUCKY OAKS DAY! What a special day! In our camp, we are CHEERING ON ZAZU! Look…even the fans LOVE Z’s! They are putting the initial Z on their front door! John just had to take this photo when he saw it!
ZAZU is in Post 6 in a field that is carded with a total of 13 horses. She will be right in the middle of the field when standing in the gate. With her running style, which is a bit like mine coming from off the pace, this is a very good post. Her jockey, Joel Rosario, knows her well and will hopefully get her in the perfect position at the start, let her drop back just enough and then finish strong. (Sounds GREAT to ME!)
We will all be wearing some PINK today as well. Churchill Downs has the fundraising for cancer awareness on Oaks Day! What a great, great idea to help with cancer research.
Zazu’s jockey will also be wearing pink…as OUR SILKS are pink and green!
LET’S GO ZAZU! You know I will be cheering you on!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Zenyatta: Zazu did well and everyone came home safely.
Here is a link to a good article on the new superstar, Frankel, who some say is the best 3 year old in the world. Great picture of Frankel, his jockey and his trainer.

Good effort Miss Zazu. That was a tough bunch of girls out there today.

Zazu ran a very game race to finish third. Didn’t look like she was to thrilled running at CD and had a “small” bumping incident near the top of the stretch just as she was starting her run. Good job Rosie N. to get an almost win. And the most important stat . . ALL RETURNED SAFELY!! Love & Peace
Rene Hersey
Zazu is gorgeous. I saw her a couple of months ago. I have no doubt she’ll do well with the Mosses looking after her.
Dona
She didn’t have the best of trips but coming in 3rd is okay at this calibur of racing. It’s a matter of good or bad racing luck. Rosie had a really good trip and just came up a little short. Well done everybody. Get’em next time!
William
Zazu got 3rd! Wow she is a beautiful horse!

@Sue Noel. I don’t know if you knew this or not about the Black Stallion movie, there were 8 horses used to play the stallion. The one you see the close-up of was a beautiful Arabian named Cas Ole from a farm in TX. Cas Ole had a white star, which had to be blacked out to fit Walter Farley’s description of “The Black”. Once I found that out, when I watched the movie again and looked closely, I could see the place where they blacked out the star. Unless you knew it was there, you couldn’t tell it. I love that movie and especially the superb photography. Just breath-taking. I didn’t know about Snow Fire either. It wasn’t shown in Birmingham, AL or I wouldn’t have missed it. I did catch all of the episodes of Fury though.

@Hanna. I read an article in Bloodhorse from this morning about an interview with Mo’s owner and trainer and it said he had a GI infection but there were certain enzymes present most commonly connected with liver or kidney function. Everytime they could cut back on Mo’s meds, the enzyme level would rise again. Although he worked well at CD, they just didn’t want to risk his health to run him in the Derby. His works were well-spaced out, according to the article, and Mo worked extremely well, but the top-notch vets just couldn’t pin down what was making the enzyme level rise when the med’s were cut back. There wasn’t anything in the article about a lung infection. Maybe that came out after the article I read this morning.

Zazu made an astonishing dash for the lead, Zenny. She’s obviously a talented filly but did not get a good trip for a good 75% of the race. Still, she tried her best “…ran her heart out” as was said of you last year. My sense is that Zazu’s still “growing up” and will be fabulous as a 4 yr. old.
Great to see another Medaglia d’Oro girl win, though!
I’m also sorry about Uncle Mo. No question he’s the best of the bunch going into the Derby. But they did the right thing for him. We wouldn’t want to see him hurt or injured — he’s just too precious a colt.
Hugs to you, sweet Zenny. Today reminded me that you are, indeed, a rare jewel.

Just saw the Oaks and was thrilled to see Zazu’s late run…reminded me of how you raced! She’s a beautiful horse and I hope to see her in other races here on the East Coast. I hope she runs at Monmouth, the track I’m closest to. About the Derby, let’s see, I have it down to 5 out of 20 horses and have to get that down to two by tomorrow. Rain may happen in KY tomorrow, and two of those horses love the mud. Then there’s Borel. Then there’s Zito, one of the greatest trainers. Wow–what a hard pick!! My long shot is Stay Thirsty and it’s interesting to watch how the odds will change on all of them by tomorrow. I think Dialed in will win and Shackleford will close well. But the angel horse of my heart will not be there–Zenyatta is my love!!! She brought me back to racing and truly has my heart!!!!

Way to go, ZAZU! She really finished strong and had to make some pretty nifty moves just to get open (from my inexpert point of view!). I thought Mike gave a good ride to Joyful Fortune- looked like she didn’t have that extra gear today. But, as has been said, it was an exciting race and everyone came home healthy:)
@ Lou Ann Cingel: hope things start going your way!
Especially Horses
Just finished watching a replay of the Oaks. Zazu finishing third…certainly nothing to be ashamed of, she gave a more then nice late run. Sweet Zazu, good for you! Maybe a little more distance and racing luck (Coaching Club American Oaks at 1 ¼ miles) will do the trick.
RoxanneL
Zazu is a truly game filly. I’d really like to see her run in the Virginia Oaks at Colonial this year. Lots of hugs to all.
Margie
Great job, Zazu!
Please get well, Uncle Mo; I’ll be praying for you.
Zenny, your presence and accomplishments will be felt on every race track forever. Love you, always.

Hi Z–Are you being a good girl & laying off those guinness? You know they’re not good for a girl in your “condition”. Love you sweet one!

HEY BEST FRIEND WHAT UP ARE YOU STILL HANGING IN THERE I AM SO SAD FOR MO HE IS NOT RUNNING THE RACE!!!!!!!:)
DJ
You did it ZAZU…Great SHOW!!!
Cindy from LA
@Sharon Call
More recent article today said Mo lost weight was
Not eating well and coat was dull. All signs he still has infection.
I am not sure if liver enzymes or pancreatic enzymes.
Kidney function would not be involved unless he was dehydrated with
A GI infection
@Max
Thanks for link to Frankel. Guess he will be at Royal Ascot June 14.
Trainer said Frankel did not want to go a longer distance at this time.
What a great colt !!!!!!!
Paula Higgins
Third is good!!! Congratulations to ZaZu and ann and Jerry Moss. I am watching a wonderful PBS special on Thoroughbreds (entitled Thoroughbreds). It is fantastic. Hope you all get to see it too.

Congrats to Zazu on a valiant effort. @ Uncle Mo – he will be given rest to get healthy and be pointed toward Saratoga races this summer, then Breeder’s Cup, provided all goes well.
Cindy from LA
Uncle Mo for Breeders cup Classic. Go Mo!!!!
You are the best. Rest up sweet boy!!!! I bet the
Folks at your barn miss your feeding ritual!!!!
Max
Cindy from LA. The trainer thinks that Frankel needs more development before they decide if he can go more than a mile. No English Triple Crown winner this year. There is some talk that Frankel may come to the Breeder’s Cup in November and face off against Mo if he has recovered. Frankel is Irish bred like Street Cry, but he has Northern Dancer on both sides of his blood line. He runs aggressively like an American horse and he has the name of a great American trainer. He is exciting to watch but in a different way from Zenyatta. Her come from behind style is probably less stressful for her, but obviously not for her fans. She is so exciting to watch. Come to think of it, watching her snooze is pretty good too.

Hi Zenny: I can’t believe I’ve missed 3 posts. You and Dottie have been very busy.
@kaycie joy: Oh, I can’t believe it. What bad news for Mo. I do respect the decision of his trainer and owner for not putting Mo in harm’s way. But oh, I am so very disappointed to hear this. Mo’s owner and trainer must feel so bad. To own and train a horse and have them come so close to running for the roses and then have to be scratched. And to be right there at Church Hill Downs and have to watch all the other horses parade out to the track. My heart goes out to them. This could be a once in a lifetime experience for Mike Repole. And Mo was one of the favorites, too! I guess that is horse racing. I hope Mo will be okay. I read an article that there might be something else wrong with him.
@Zazu, congratulations on a race well done. Zenny, I don’t know how you can stand all this excitement! You remember these days! Oh, Zenny BTW, I have to get caught up with your other posts over the past few days, but at a sneak peek, your trophies are beautiful. Beyond beautiful!! I know you are very proud of them. Have a fun day tomorrow! Love, Linda
audreyc
Happy they did the right thing, and took Unclo Mo out. I hope, and pray, he will recover.
Zazu ran a good race…but this is racing – anyone’s guess. It often is a myriad of factors. The best trip, feeling good, etc., etc. However, I must admit, i love the name “Plum Pretty.” It is what it is. Thank God – all came home safely.
On an off note, I have been diligently disecting the mare I lease – who exhibits so many different things. She is related to Zenyatta, through her Native Dancer, and Princequillo lineage. She also has Count Fleet, and Mahmoud in her line. She acts more thoroughbred than anything else – but, as an appendix, she also has some quarter horse, and her coloring is apricot dun (NOT a thoroughbred color). A grandsire is Three Bars – the thoroughbred who bequeathed the most to quarter horse racing, and passed the large heart gene, along with Princequillo, and Mahmoud. Her tail is set soo very low,- noticeable to other horses, that I researched this trait – to find that she is one of very few, whose very low tail sets – that goes back to the ancient Spanish Iberian – war horses – that is the first trait to disappear, in cross breeding. One sees this trait with Paso Finos, Kiger Mustangs, but not very often with an appendix. Guess that is it. I don’t mean to get off topic – but I do love this horse, very much…and I am very proud of her. Guess I wanted to share….
Tomorrow is Derby Day! Safe trip – all. Love you, Zenyatta!
Cindy from LA
@Max
I thought it might have been more growing into himself.
Love to read the English paper. Much more info
On Frankel strategy and jockey info than in US. Thanks
For sharing. Would love to see Frankel come to
US for BCC with a healthy Mo. What a great show.
What do you think about Master of Hounds in Derby?
Oh yes!!! Zenny’s style was soooo exciting and energy
Preserving up front for her running “Dead Last”. Expending
It all at the end.
Max
Cindy at LA. I agree about Mo. When he was not eating like before, it was not a good sign. No one seemed to enjoy food more than Uncle Mo. Let us hope that he has time to rest and recover. I have been waiting to see Mo in the Derby since November. I now will hope for good results for Bernie’s Stay Thirsty and for all to make it home safely without any injuries. Run for those roses, Cousin Thirsty!

Hi All: Does anyone know what channel the Kentucky Derby will be televised. I know NBC will cover the race from 4pm ET, but what about coverage of the first part of the day. Two networks usually split the coverage of it.
Max
Cindy at LA. It seems strange to bring Master of the Hounds over here at such a late date and have him in quarantine for two days to be ridden by a jockey who has never ridden him before if I am not mistaken. However in this Derby anything can happen. The best advice may be to bet on Calvin Borel as the closest to a sure thing. This time tomorrow we will all be the wiser.
Cindy from LA
I just have sooo many horses I like in the Derby. Stay thirsty,
Mucho macho man (love his size17 hands and trainer), Midnight
Interlude very talented baby who bites, Dialed In ad an
exciting closer, Rosie on Pants on Fire she was superb
In the Oaks today, and of course Calvin Borel wish he was
Riding Stay Thirsty!!!!
Safe trip to all the equine athletes in th Run for The Roses!!!!
Have fun watching the races Zenny !!!!
Cindy from LA
Safe trip to all jockeys in the Derby as well !!!

A good evening to Z-ladies,
Zazu Zazu don’t make us blue :) :) :)
I hope this evening finds you doing swell, after a great day, all this talk about the Oaks & Derby might have ya runnin’ in your sleep tonight, and smackin’ your lips for a taste of those victory roses.
Hopefully your buddy will be the ONE munching on those tomorrow.
T-storms approaching, gotta get off. :(
Have a great race tonight in dream land
