Hello,
Yesterday I shared my HORSE OF THE YEAR trophy with YOU!
In 2010, the Eclipse Awards honored me with 3 different Awards: Horse of the Year, Champion Older Female, and the Special Eclipse Award for the contribution MY TEAM and I have made to the Industry! I am so fortunate!
At this time, ALL 3 of MY 2010 TROPHIES have arrived. My owners have them safely in their possession. John is TOO CUTE! He arranged them in this setting to get this photo to share with YOU!
Dottie was commenting to Ann and Jerry the other day that they now have 5 FABULOUS ECLIPSE AWARDS….WITH LOVE FROM ME. Literally, they could have the 5 Awards running in a race of their own on their fireplace mantle. TOO CUTE!
The GOLDEN ECLIPSE TROPHY is definitely one that brings tears to my eyes! I truly worked hard to earn all of them…but this one means so, so very much! My team and I not only worked hard…but so did all of YOU! To me, it truly means WE DID IT!
I know I have said this many times…but having seen these awards now, I must say it again. THANK YOU for all of your support, love, encouragement, and cheers! I could not have earned these honors without ALL OF YOU! I hope you enjoy sharing them with us in these photos…and know in your heart that YOU played a very special part along with MY TEAM and I in achieving these honors!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

No one deserves it more than you and your wonderful family!

It is impressive to look at. The stories you can share with your barnmates. History will once again be made, there in Kentucky, this Saturday, but you are one for the history books, now and forever.
Love you Zenyatta!
Nancy
You’re the best … today and always. Love you, dear Z!

you are so loved in TEXAS

Early good morning Lady Z, the bronzes are beautiful, and you deserve every one of them plus more! We are so very proud of you on and off the racetrack, you’re simply the best! You’ve set the example for all the young fillies and they all look to you as the standard to emulate (and that’s a good thing)! I know you are enjoying Derby week, especially with family in town, has ‘your’ Mikey been by to see you? You and Pirate Queen aren’t planning on sneaking into Churchill Downs to watch the races are you? ;) Or are you planning on being the ‘hostess with the mostess’, having high tea for the Oaks and a barbecue for the Derby? If the weather is nice ,maybe Charles could bring the big screen out to the paddock for you, cuz I know you wouldn’t mess the races, if only to see your family’ Did Sophie come on this trip or is she at HP with John? Please tell Sarah, I said hello, we haven’t heard much from her lately! And you girls don’t drink too many of those ‘pink ladies/mint juleps’, I wouldn’t want you to get a fuzzy head. :( But have fun and good luck with your picks, tell the posse Hi for me, okay. As for my picks, I still haven’t finalized them yet, but they will include the sisters, Zazu and Joyful Victory; of course Bernie’s son, Thirsty, and nephew Pants of Fire! I hoping Mo is good to go, but if he’s not 100%, hope they wait for the Preakness. Well, to bed for me, good luck to all, safe racing and come back sound.
Hugs to All,
Valeria

Congratulations Queen Z. Now they need to give you a trophy for HORSE OF A LIFE TIME. I know you are for ZAZU in the Oaks, but who are you for in the Derby?
Anne
There has never been a more deserving horse. You have been the HORSE OF A LIFETIME for all of us who have lived and watched you run. No material object can ever capture all our love for you Zenyatta.
Elizabeth
Loved the trophy photos! For everything you are doing and have done for racing, Zenny – how much you accomplished – and the way you are – such a graceful, kind lady – you and your family are such an inspiration to us all. Loved the ‘trophy line’!

You deserve all the honors and more for what you have given to everyone.
You are the very best of the best.

@Kay and @Judy B., that’s no random horse. That is a sculpture of the great Eclipse himself. It is based on a painting by George Stubbs. Eclipse was the dominant racehorse of his day. He was foaled April 1, 1764 (yes, he shares his birthday with Zenyatta). He won 18 races in 18 starts and was never seriously challenged. He was retired because no one would run against him and the bookies weren’t getting any action. I read somewhere that when he was retired to stud, he rode in a wagon draped with silk and jewels. At stud he was a great success. Today some 80% or more of TBs have Eclipse in their pedigrees. 95% of direct male lines go back to Eclipse.
Here is his Wikipedia article showing the Stubbs portrait:

Congrats to all about the awards! Beautiful reminders of all the effort it took to win each of them. Hoping for a wonderful Oaks with Zazu and Joyful Victory (the Tapit sisters); they’re gorgeous! Z…you take care.

This just in–Uncle Mo has been scratched from the Derby.
Especially Horses
@Kay and @Judy B
Adding to LauraJ’s comment…That’s why the event and trophies honoring the champions of the sport each year are called The Eclipse Awards.
Cindy from LA
Sorry to hear Mo is scratched by USA Today, but
Training lowers resistance and does not allow
The body to heal human or equine. Sooo
Glad Mike Repole had the horses best interest
In mind. Mo needs to fully recover. Racing causes a
Huge amount of stress on the equine body.
Thanks Mike Repole and good luck with Stay Thirsty
He has matured nicely.

@Kay and Judy B
They are not making the Eclipse award to look like
Each HOY or each winner. That would cost a huge amount
Of money. As Laura J says it is named an the horse
On trophy is Eclipse from long ago
Thanks for great information.

With Uncle Mo out and the race wide open I’m selecting two Derby horses based on a totally unscientific reason – the horse’s name. So just for fun here goes…..Archarcharach (because my dog’s name is Archie, and 90% of the time I call him Arch) and Mucho Macho Man (because my cat’s name is Macho). As always I am praying that they all come home safe and sound at the end of the race.
Here’s hoping, that on the first Saturday in May, everyone has a Mint Julep and Rose Day.
1 Mint Julep Serving
4 fresh mint sprigs
2 ½ oz bourbon whiskey
1 tsp powdered sugar
2 tsp water
Muddle mint leaves, powdered sugar, and water in a Collins glass. Fill the glass with shaved or crushed ice and add bourbon. Top with more ice and garnish with a mint sprig. Serve with a straw.

Thank you for sharing your “bling”…they are all well deserved! Have a great weekend with your CA family! GO ZAZU!! GO MUCHO MACHO MAN!! And most importantly…SAFE TRIPS/RIDES EVERYONE!!

Good Morning sweet ZENYATTA! You deserve ALL of those awards and so does Team Z and your family. We are so lucky to be a small part of your life. It is Kentucky Derby Day in Room 215. We are doing Derby activities. I told the children about the Oaks and I have my PINK Secretariat shirt on. They are watching a clip of the real Secretariat running the 99th Kentucky Derby. Then we are doing a Jockey info sheet and a map find (about a trip to the Kentucky Derby). The end of the day we will be eating our RUN FOR THE ROSES GO MO GO cake with an outside activity. The children are so into all of this. We might not be able to be in Kentucky but we are bringing a little of Kentucky into the room. I hope you enjoy your time with your loving family. We love you Zenyatta. Hugs and Kisses from Shari and Homeroom 215 XXXOOO
@GO ZAZU!!!
@GO MO GO RUN FOR THE ROSES !!!!!!!!
@I also pray for all Jockeys and Horses to be safe :)
Shari Voltz
@Just heard Mo is not running. I am glad his family loves him enough to get him well before he runs. We will eat the cake in his honor :)
Mary Stanford
Good Morning Z….. Wow, all those awards are beautiful….just like you. I keep the 60 Minutes on my Tivo…I have watched it in entirety four times…but I click a few times a day to the part where you are standing tall…head and ears up…and with Mario. I love looking at you standing there so beautiful….so inquisitive about everything around you. Hugs to you Z…

Dear All:
Let’s take a moment to recognize and thank Mike Repole and Todd Pletcher for doing the right thing and making the right call today by not running Uncle Mo in the derby. Plese don’t forget Stay Thirsty (the other Repole/Pletcher horse) is still very much in the race and should have as much support and love shown him as Uncle Mo. Noting we pray for Mo and wish him good health in a sound body.

@Sue Noel. Oh, my gosh! I had forgotten about Gallent Bess. I remember seeing it when I was a kid and just loved it just as I loved Flica and Thunderhead, Son of Flicka, the originals not any of the remakes. A walk back in time is good for the soul when you get to be older. Sue, the things people like us have seen in our lifetimes is just amazing, some good, some not so good but all life experiences. Thanks for sharing with me.
