Good Morning!
It is another FUN day here at Lane’s End! I am trying to catch up on all of my BEAUTY SLEEP as there is a great deal of activity happening during Derby Week in town and I want to look my best!
I’ve just been told that I have OVER 80,000 Facebook Friends. This number has really grown since I’ve retired from racing. I can’t thank ALL OF YOU enough for wanting to keep in touch with ME! This is a HUGE number! I’m so proud!
Then The Moss’ and Dottie are coming into Lexington late tonight…so I’ll see all of them a great deal during the next few days. This is TERRIFIC! I am SO EXCITED! I also have some visitors coming who bid on visits with me for various charity auctions. This is always very rewarding. I am so happy to help others in any way I possibly can.
When reading the comments and responses, I am so glad that you enjoyed viewing the 60 Minutes piece again. Marilu V. asked if it was EL VINO working with me on the tape during the program. YES, it was! That is why John always said he deserved the award for SUPPORTING PLAYER! He worked with ME often to help prepare ME for my races and he did a FABULOUS JOB! What a GREAT GUY!
In life, it always takes people working together to make a difference. I was so very fortunate to have so many people who worked hard with me…and cooperated with each other to make it all happen for ME! I couldn’t be more grateful!
Over 80,000 FACEBOOK FANS! This is just TOO CUTE!
Blessing to all of you!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

My condolances to the owners of Devil May Care who had to be euthansized due to cancer. Many of us have lost loved ones of all types to this horrific disease. Pray for a cure!
Kathy Kimber
Zeny, I know it has been a very busy day and I just bet your family came by today. I’m sure your day started early because, of course, you had to get your hair done and your nails. Just enjoy your family while they are with you. Hugs and kisses.

According to Jay Hovdey of the DRF in his article in today’s edition re the Mosses and their return to CD since the gut- wrenching Classic loss, Zenyatta HAS been re bred to Bernadini. No date or timeline was mentioned. It is now up to Dottie to fill in the blanks!
LauraJ
@Roseanne Glynn, so far no plans have been made to allow the public to visit Zenyatta. Some months ago, when Zenyatta first arrived, Lane’s End said they would try to make arrangements if possible. However, they made no promises. If they do make arrangements, they will probably be announced here first, or on the Lane’s End website or Facebook page. Right now Lane’s End is closed to casual visitors anyway and will be through June. Normally, breeding farms (not just LE but all of them) offer visits to their stallion facilities but not the broodmares. Because stallions have to be available for inspection, stallion barns are set up to receive visitors. For example, there is parking. Broodmare barns are just barns. For this and other reasons, her fans will never be able just to drop in to see her. If Lane’s End is able to arrange a visit for Zenyatta, we can expect that it will be scheduled for a specific day and for a limited number of visitors. And it may never happen. I’m not trying to be unkind here, just realistic. Sorry I can’t be more positive. I would like to see her too.

So sad to hear about Devil May Care. That must be so devistating for all her connections and all the fans who loved her. I knew she was diagnosed with Hepatitis last year, but thought she was doing better when she got to go to her owners farm. She was gaining weight and starting to look better, but then started loosing her coat and not thriving anymore. I’m glad she is not suffering and is with God now.
On to some happier things-hope you are enjoying time with your Mom, Dad and Aunt Dottie Big Z. Tell them to give you a big peppermint kiss from all of us. Lori

Laura J:
I agree with you about getting to see the Mighty Queen Z. I just appreciate the fact that we all have this website and are privilaged enough to get up to date info on her, current pictures and hopefully a video or two from time to time. Most broodmares disappear from the fans, rarely to be heard from again unless they just produced a foal, then maybe we get an update with a picture. WE ARE ALL VERY LUCKY!!! Lori

@ Thank you for the articles and sites. I am still learning. God Bless Devil May Care she crossed over to Rainbow Bridge. Sleep well Zenyatta. Hugs and Kisses, Shari XXXOOO

Just read that article in DRF. It stated,”…there should be news soon….”. Maybe we’ll be hearing from Dottie at the end of May. Hope it’s great news. Judy B.

Hi again everyone! Just a note to say that THE VAULT has just published its last article in the Kentucky Derby series on the wonderful Barbaro: http://thevaulthorseracing.wordpress.com/
ENJOY!
Hugs & kisses to you, Zenny. Thinking of you in the loving embrace of your family and of Zazu — go girl!

During the royal wedding procession, one of the horse guards threw his rider and bolted back to his stable. A commentator described it as the horse being like people who like to be with their friends. For whatever reason the horse wanted to head home. Horses are herd animals and they like to be together and act like horses. Although race training and racing may be interesting for a while, it is very hard work and rather unnatural for horses. Hanging out on a great farm like Lane’s End with her pals must be nice and a relief from stress for Zenyatta. Stay well,
Queen Z.

My Sweet Lady Zenyatta, I hope you had a wonderful day with visits from your family and friends. I know you’ll have some grea talks with each other. I’m looking forward to The Kentucky Derby. It’s exciting to think of all the possibilities that could happen with the 20 posts. I just read in Bloodhorse about Devil May Care passed. She fought a year of illinesses to be overcome by cancer a race she couldn’t win. My heart goes out to Mr. Greathouse & family for her loss. I think about her family not getting to see her race to her full potential. Then I look at you,Zenyatta. We are so fortunate & Blessed to have you so healthy, safe & sound your entire life! I pray you will always be healthy & happy and we can always hear from you. You mean so much to me. I love you Zenyatta. Sending You Hugs & Kisses From Alabama With love, Amanda G.

Zenny…we hope you had a great day with your family today. How special you are to them…an abundance of love flows from you to them and vice versa…what a wonderful circle of life so to speak.
According to a news article today you have seen your boyfriend again ;-) lucky guy! And we understand “news” should be coming soon. Enjoy this special time…you have earned every moment of luxury at LE. We still marvel that you have remained happy and very healthy after 3 solid years on the track.
God Bless you and your wonderful connections.

Hey Z Girl, I’m unable to check the website daily, so did I miss something? With a month left to go in the breeding season, what’s going on? When are you going to see Bernie again? I’m concerned. Don’t rule out the sporthorse world where embryo transplants are allowed. I’d love to see your offspring doing their dance steps in the Olympic dressage ring if you should miss this year on the TB side. Get those genes out there, Girl!

Dear Zenny,
I, too, love the picture of you tucked cozily into your warm bed! I like to sleep in too.
I am so glad that your area wasn’t affected by the terrible storms that hit so many areas in the south and southeast especially. I hope and pray that all the animals affected will be okay too.
Isn’t is just amazing – you’re retired and you still (and most deservedly so) get more attention than any other horse. Just goes to show how SPECIAL you are.
Hope you enjoy your family’s visit. They know how special you are too and how blessed they are to have you. We all are.
Don’t worry if you don’t end up in foal this year. There is plenty of time for that. The main thing is that you are healthy and happy.
Love you!
Suzanne M.

Well, that’s about it, oh, I’m very sorry about your fellow mare’s early passing, cancer, it happens to a lot of humans, too. Devil May Care, did have the care of good humans, and horse pals. She’s running now with all the great horses, in their forever paddock, with the best grass, carrots galore held by all those great horse friends waiting by the fence. Good health to you always, and to your family, it’s the best thing to have.
Good night, Sweetheart, good niiiight
:) :) :)

The news about Devil May Care was painful to hear. But they tried very hard to save her. Very sad.Uncel Mo has another work tomorrow and I think that will tell the story as to whether her runs or not. He did not get a great psot position-#18 and that may effect their decision also if there is any doubt as to his condition or readiness.
Dawn Conrad
Dearest, Zenyatta. I was so sorry to hear about Devil May Care. Her connections tried so hard to save her and the words of Mr. Greathouse in the Bloodhorse were especially touching. Spotted Dottie and Jerry walking on the backstretch of Churchill during a Bloodhorse video piece. It was great to see them back for another shot at the Oaks with Zazu. I hope the family got a chance to pay you a visit today. It will be wonderful for you all to be so close to each other this week. Sounds like you did get to see Bernie, hope you are feeling great. Stay warm and safe, beautiful! Sweet dreams. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
@Shari – Keep smiling, my friend!! It’s Derby Week!!!! How exciting for you and your students to be celebrating this amazing event. I know your time with them is such a tonic to your soul.
@Abigail – Thank you so much for another entry in the Vault. You are an amazing writer and the photos are incrediable. Is the piece about Zenyatta’s pedigree still available? I went back to review it, but could not find it. I am going to visit Darby Dan Farm in July and will of course pay my respects at Roberto’s grave. I was hoping to see All American, but he will be heading back to Australia by then.
@Eveline – Thank you!
@Kim S – I know!!
@Sharon Call and Gloria – Thank you for the link to the article, I enjoyed it.
@Peggy – Do you believe I will just miss the Fasig Tipton sale. It is happening the week before I arrive. Oh well, you have given me a great idea for a future adventure. Thanks!
Vicki B.
@Gloria Jeanne & @Sharon Call – Thanks for the link to DRF story on the Mosses at Churchill. About halfway down it talks about them naming their horses, and how “Zazu” is an album by Rosie Vela, and about her friendship with Ann Moss. It’s also, as Ann said, “another good name that started with ‘Z.’ ” Here’s the link again, for any who don’t want to hunt: http://www.drf.com/news/no-bad-feelings-mosses-return-churchill-downs

I watched the 60 minute show, and I’ll watch it again now! Sometimes when I’m walking down the street I imagine you, huge and beautiful, walking beside me. You have a HUGE & BEAUTIFUL spirit.

Abigail – Thank you so much for the Vault link. Anything written about Barbaro is a treasure. I loved him so much and will miss him forever. R.I.P. dear Barbaro and please welcome Devil May Care to your flank. She was a wonderful filly and so brave. My heart goes out to her connections.
Good luck to the Moss team this week-end and to Mikey on Joyful Victory. Be safe.

Did you know, Uncle Mo really is Comma to the Top’s Uncle! Comma’s sire, Bwana Charlie is Mo’s 1/2 brother via their sire, Indian Charlie. Yes, I know, I need to get on with what I’m supposed to be doing! If your torn on who to root for in the Derby on Saturday, don’t forget that Stay Thirsty is a colt of Bernardini’s. It’s so hard to choose just 1.

@Judy: Thanks for the link. The Thoroughbred program was very interesting.
