Happy Oaks / Derby Week to Everyone!
Wow! It is hard to believe that it is already May! The weather is a bit nicer here this morning. It is not too hot and the rain in Lexington has stopped for the moment. Everyone in town is hoping that the weather cooperates to make it a fun and fabulous week for all of our many visitors!
My Moss Pal, ZAZU, leaves CA very early in the morning on Tex Sutton’s plane and will land in Kentucky tomorrow around 10ish. I’m wishing her a nice, relaxing flight and a very successful Oaks week. The Moss’ and Dottie will be arriving late Tuesday. I am SO excited to be able to visit with them during the next several days. They did say they were going to spend LOTS of time with ME while they are in town. This is GREAT NEWS!
How about the 60 MINUTES program which aired last night! It is interesting that many people throughout the country were able to see the segment and commented about it to all of my TEAM. In California, the last part of it was interrupted due to BREAKING NEWS! John said that they were able to see it on-line…which is terrific! I know they MISS ME!
I think 60 Minutes did a wonderful job on MY update! It is so special that they were able to show me outside in the paddock with my dear friend, Pirates Queen. The portions on MY TEAM were adorable! Just in case, you did not get to see it last night or live in CA and the segment was interrupted, I’m including the 60 Minutes Link for you! They really did a wonderful job capturing so many special moments of MY LIFE!
Enjoy!

Dearest Zenyatta,
It was so wonderful to see that you are thriving at Lane’s End. You are as beautiful as ever, and I cannot wait until I get the chance to meet you in person (hopefully someday)! It looks like you are truly enjoying life down in Kentucky, and I know from experience that you are with wonderfully talented and caring horse-people. We LOVE you, Zenyatta! You have touched this Michigander’s heart in a million and one ways!

Dearest Zenny, Thanks for that marvelous photo of a marvelous couple! A match made in heaven of two angels. I know you will enjoy the coming visit from your California team, and they will be over the moon to see you again. Best wishes to your friend Zazu in the Oaks.
@ ANN from Indiana from Post 235—I certainly shall say a prayer for your husband Morris, in ICU for a brain biopsy. I’m glad that you both are Zenyatta fans, and I hope thoughts of her will continue to INSPIRE you both and give you strength. Best of luck to the two of you. EARS FORWARD!
@DJ—The same wishes for you and your husband, too, as for Ann and her hubby.

@Max
Missed your post about reading the English papers
Re: Frankel. Interesting comments. After the race
Commentators mentioned jockey does not have
Much experience and I guess when he slowed him
Down Frankel got confused and started looking
Around for the other horses. Frankel is sooo cute!!!
Do you know anything about Frankel’s jockey?
Cindy from LA
@Max
Also read, Frankel will most likely next race at
Royal Ascot so I guess he will not be a European
Triple Crown contender. Personally I am not sure
About these Triple Crown races here or across the
Pond. I think they put too much pressure on everyone
And tax the horses too much. They are young 3 year olds
With developing bone and muscle structure.
Why have we not had a Triple Crown winner since
1978? What has happened to breeding between then
And now. Commentators are saying this crop of 3 year
Olds is mediocre. Too bad about R Heat Lightening. Don’t
Know how they are going to keep her down. Soooo talented.

Yes, I have heard of Zazu Pitts ( or was it Zasu ?). Anyway, I remember her in a TV show called “My Little Margie”. Good Luck in the Oaks, Zazu. Loved the 60 Minutes update.

What a wonderful picture of Dottie & John!I really enjoyed the 60 minutes segment and am really looking forward to watching Zazu race in the Oaks. Have an extra special week Lady Z with your extra special California family! XO

Judy B. – Thank you for the hugs and acknowledging what was such a wonderful day. I live in Northern California but used to live in L.A. and ever so often, visit my dear friends and if there’s a horse that I care for at one of the tracks, well, lets just say nothing can keep me at home. I saw her first race and it was love at first sight thanks to Vic Stauffer. His call of the race was awesome and it was due to his efforts that Hollywood Park honored her in 2008. I was there and almost had the paddock area to myself. Mario walked her around, waiting for the call to take her onto the track and they stopped and stood right in front of me, arms lenght away, waiting for me to get my photos. I shook so, I could hardly hold my camera still.
My friend Linda gave me the Breeders Cup t-shirt and hat for my birthday, so I wore them both friday and saturday for the Breeders Cup races. My friends Jan and her cousin Lynn, took me to Lowry’s for a prime rib dinner. Lovely.
Afer we arrived at Jan’s house and looked at the bloodhorse web site, there I was in the runrun of the Classic. I knew it was possible because when John threw his cap into the crownd it went sailing over my head. I scanned the video and sure enough, there I am. Wow, captured forever with her is awesome, as many people can attest to. November 7th 2009 was a perfect day and I will treasure it always.
Marilyn
I saw you on 60 minutes….it was great..wow you are beautiful…..have a fun time this week…..nothing like Derby week….love and hugs

Ms Zenyatta, good morning. I was watching the sitcom ‘Mad Love’ last night on CBS, and they talked about you. Seems this lawyer did not win his case in this segment, but had a cake that said 29-1. I love you, have a wonderful day. Lisa g

Horses here are now bred for speed not so much stamina anymore. There are some great stayers in UK and Ireland also Australia and New Zealand.
The Melbourne cup is 2 miles and in 2009 was won by a horse by Street Cry. I think Zenyatta would have been able to run 12 furlongs easy and I bet she would have been great on turf.
Zazu and Joyful Victory are both out of Tapit a wonderful stallion.
I hope Zazu wins I think it will be close between them.
Max
Cindy at CA. Frankel’s jockey is young and is the stable jockey to Henry Cecil, the trainer. He won at the US Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare in 2009 with Midday. They were expecting a victory with Twice Over in the Dubai World Cup this year, but it did not work out. The 2000 win was outstanding for Frankel. They decided ahead of time to let him go because he likes to gallop. His pace horse could not keep up. Reports I have read say the horse was asked to ease up and was not distracted at all.
There are now questions about the Triple Crown. His trainer may not recommend following in Nijinsky’s hoof prints. However, his owner may have different ideas and may want to try as this could be a once in a lifetime chance. Time will tell. He is a great horse. He looks like Nijinsky, and may have his will to win at the distance. He may not be able to be only a miler because after the 2000 the competition was blown away. They do not want to race against him again! Go Frankel!

@Cindy from LA, Tom Queally is Frankels jockey. He is a good rider. Like Zenyatta I think Frankel being so far out front of the other horses just lost his concentration…
@Dottie and John, that is a Great Picture of you both!! Good luck with Zazu in the Oaks.
Patricia Emery
Great photo of John & Dottie. I hope you enjoy your visit with your family. I am positive it is an exciting time in Kentucky! Lots of Love

Oh Zenny…..I looked forward to your 60 Minutes profile all week long. You looked so beautiful, truly magnificent!! My eyes were glued to the TV when you were on. I only wished they could have devoted a full 60 minutes to your profile! I watched it again the next morning on line. And of course wishing much success to Zazu! Have fun with your loved ones that will be visiting with you this week. As always “Z” sending you lots of love today & everyday. xoxo

…………….
Thank you S. in beautiful San Diego and Trina N. for your caring remarks.

@Max and Alexandra
Thanks so much for the great information. Guess
The US commentators were off base. I read some
On Nijinsky. Awesome horse. With all of Frankel’s
Enthusiasm and talent. Hope they send him to Triple
Crown. Go Frankel. He is also gorgeous.

Hi Big Z–
Somehow we were fortunate to get the whole segment without the break-in, but I enjoyed watching it again via the link. Love you always. Is there any new report out about breeding? Will it be Bernardini or someone else? Please forgive if I have missed some “Breaking news” on this topic.
evy
A wonderful 60 Minutes piece on you, dear Zenyatta. We loved seeing you on the big screen….so serene and confident.
Max
@Donna. I agree with your comments, especially about Zenyatta. She looks like she had the power to run long distances. In her last race she seemed to be just warming up and missed out on victory because she needed some more yards to get the job done She is a real super horse. You cannot but love her. Very glad that she is sound and healthy, not to mention incredibly beautiful.

Good Morning Zenyatta the Movie Star :) I hope you get some outside time today. It is really raining here. If you need a mud bath now would be the time. I wanted to tell you that my principal paid me a compliment by calling me the “Zenyatta of Westgate” saying my spirit and compassion draw the children to me. This made me feel so good. That is what you have done Zenny. We are ALL drawn to you. Since this is Kentucky Derby week and testing is over I am doing some fun horsey things with the children. We read about hippotherapy. Hippo is a Greek word for horse. This article is called “Gift of Horses”. The children learned about horse therapy. I also have an article (with questions) on the most exciting two minutes in sports the Kentucky Derby. Horses were so important throughout history that I can incorporate different horse information this week. Tomorrow I have an article that discusses horses anatomy, how they live, strength, speed and height. All of the handouts I am using came from an educational site I subscribe to. I wish I could have you come in boy would the children be excited :) I love you big girl and so do the children. Happy Kentucky Derby week. Hugs and many Kisses from Shari and Homeroom 215 XXXOOO

Hey Zenny! I loved your segment on 60 minutes, but it didn’t give us much of an update. Perhaps we need more pictures or just hearing how you are doing. Have you been bred again? And my friend (who’s 5 and a huge fan) wants to know when the kids section of your website will be set up? Please Zen, give us more updates on you.
SarahT
I loved seeing the new piece about you, Zenyatta. You looked amazing and I liked seeing you kick up your heels. It still warms my heart to see you. Hoped to see more new video, but we can’t get enough! I’m still happy with what we got to see. I’m with you about hoping the rain ends soon. Stood through the downpour all day at Derby day last year and would sure hope this year it’s sunny.

@barbara wood: No nothing yet on her breeding? :/ Like you, we all are anxiously waiting for news. :)
The Kennedys in San Diego
We are looking forward to the Derby and Oaks this week. While there are some very nice fillies in the Oaks, we are hoping Arienza, Azeri’s second foal by Giant’s Causeway, runs. She ran a bullet work a few days ago and looks so much like her Hall of Fame, Horse of the Year, champion dam.
We were fortunate to get to know Azeri well as she trained at San Luis Rey Downs, 20 minutes from our home, so we were able to visit her at her barn frequently. In fact, I even fed her mints inside her paddock without a groom or others present. Very gentle, kind horse but she put her game face on on race days. I thought I would never love a horse as much — and then came Zenyatta.

Thanks “Z” for all the information. I know you are excited to see John and Dottie. I miss you here in California. I’ll be cheering for Zazu in the Oaks. Happy Tuesday Zenny with lots of xoxxoxoxo
