Happy Oaks / Derby Week to Everyone!
Wow! It is hard to believe that it is already May! The weather is a bit nicer here this morning. It is not too hot and the rain in Lexington has stopped for the moment. Everyone in town is hoping that the weather cooperates to make it a fun and fabulous week for all of our many visitors!
My Moss Pal, ZAZU, leaves CA very early in the morning on Tex Sutton’s plane and will land in Kentucky tomorrow around 10ish. I’m wishing her a nice, relaxing flight and a very successful Oaks week. The Moss’ and Dottie will be arriving late Tuesday. I am SO excited to be able to visit with them during the next several days. They did say they were going to spend LOTS of time with ME while they are in town. This is GREAT NEWS!
How about the 60 MINUTES program which aired last night! It is interesting that many people throughout the country were able to see the segment and commented about it to all of my TEAM. In California, the last part of it was interrupted due to BREAKING NEWS! John said that they were able to see it on-line…which is terrific! I know they MISS ME!
I think 60 Minutes did a wonderful job on MY update! It is so special that they were able to show me outside in the paddock with my dear friend, Pirates Queen. The portions on MY TEAM were adorable! Just in case, you did not get to see it last night or live in CA and the segment was interrupted, I’m including the 60 Minutes Link for you! They really did a wonderful job capturing so many special moments of MY LIFE!
Enjoy!

You were made to be a STAR. Great 60 Minutes segment!

Loved the update. You looked beautiful as always.

I will have to go online to see the remaining part of 60 Minutes as it was interrupted. Rocky Freitas, your John’s dear friend, filled me in. I hope the weather in Kentucky will be nice so that the track will be dry and the ladies can show off their hats. I wish John had a horse running in the Derby. I would love to see him back in the winners circle. I am glad that you are going to be able to visit with Team Zenyatta this week. How exciting for you and for them!
Love you Zenyatta!

I saw the entire clip. I live in NJ. I was so pumped watching it, I couldn’t even sit in a chair, I actually stood in front of the big screen and my heart was racing! It was awesome just like you, I LOVED IT SO MUCH and I love you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oxoxxoxoxoxo

Seeing the 60 Minutes segment just made us yearn to see you in all your glory again, Zenyatta. It’s hard to believe how lucky we were to get to see you for 3 + years on the track. You still look so shiny and muscled. We remember how shocked we were, speechless and breathless, to see you in the stretch at BC 2009 at Santa Anita when it looked literally like you turned on the afterburners and roared past all the others; your move was so quick and so graceful at the same time that words can’t convey the thrill you gave . . .

It was Great!! Loved seeing you and you look great!

What a fine picture of John and Dottie Shirreffs. You can see that they are very much in love and are a compliment to each other. Can only imagine how much you miss seeing them all the time Zenyatta. But of course, you have your new second family there at Lane’s End and your gal pals, life is just so interesting and there are so many wonderful people in your life. Really enjoyed seeing you on the 50 minute program last eve and my favorite part was near the end when you were in the paddock and you kicked up your back legs as if to say, Life is good-eeehaw! Thanks so much for making me smile and warming my heart! Thoughts of youhelp me get through each and every day. I love you Zenyatta!

Hi Zenny: Yes indeed the 60 Minute piece was a great update on you. Anything involving you is great!!! I missed the first piece that was aired right before the BC race. Oh, I was so disappointed. So this time I made sure I was home. Of course you looked fabulous. It was so much fun reliving your racing days, and to see you out in the paddock with your good friend PQ.
Hey that’s great that you will get to spend some time with your family. I bet you can’t wait to see everyone. What a nice picture of Dottie and John. That is a pretty fancy camera John has. I went to the Kentucky Derby in 2009. It was a fun experience. If I ever have the chance to go again, next time I am going to pay for really good seats. I know they are expensive, but worth it if you want to see the races. There are so many people, it is hard to move around and see much of anything! Oh, there seemed to be some discussion over the Z pin on your last post. Please let us know when and if we can order one. Well Zenny, I best get going. I’ll write again tomorrow night. Enjoy! Love, Linda

Hi Zenny…love you girl…love that your family will be visiting you this week…love that the public continues to be facinated by you….our horse of a lifetime.

I couldn’t believe it when your much-anticipated segment was interrupted. 10 years in the hunting, and tbe news lands plop in the middle of your story! Thanks so much to Dottie for supplying the link to all of us deprived West Coasters. It was beyond wonderful to see you once again as you will best be remembered, in the full flower of your magnificence. Seeing this footage made me realize once again, that you are the most beautiful creature to ever put hooves to earth.
Prayers for your sweet friend Zazu’s safe journey both on the plane and in the Oaks, and best hopes for a wreath of lilies at the end! Have a long and lovely visit with your devoted and amazing human family. If your huge paddock were full of the hearts of those who love you, it could not contain them all!

I really enjoyed the 60 Minutes piece, but like some others on this site, I wished that we could have seen more of you at LE. May John and Dottie will have time to post some pictures of their visits with you. That would be really special.
BTW, just as a point of interest. How many of you remember an actress that made films in the 30’s and 40’s whose name was ZAZU Pitts. It’s the only other time I’ve ever heard that name. Wonder if that were Jerry and Ann got her name.

Oops! Meant Maybe John and Dottie …

Zenyatta thank you for sharing. I hope you enjoy the time with your family. Tell Dottie I think she is beautiful :). I am watching TVG to learn more about horseracing. I want to wish ZAZU good luck. I hope you have a good night sweet girl. I love you so much. Hugs and Kisses from Shari XXXOOO

Victory who will give Zazu a run for the money !!!!

Dear Z, seeing the 60 Minutes piece on you, and watching videos of your races, just takes my breath away. Bob Simon said he grew up in New York City and really knows squirrels and thought you were just a horse, that is until he saw you in person and was struck by how absolutely magnificent you are. As one poster said, all horses are beautiful but you are beyond beautiful. You are heavenly and radiate grace both inside and out. I agree with all the posters who say they can’t get enough of you. You now have over 90,000 FB fans/friends, and I wish the major networks would cover more of you and your life so the wider world could get to know you and understand why we feel the way we do about you. Stay healthy, happy, safe and sound in your lovely new home. I also second the wish of many posters that all the horses and jockeys who run over the Oaks/Derby weekend come back healthy and sound, no matter who wins.
Cheryl
I think 60 minutes should visit you EVERY WEEK! I just love seeing you on TV so much! Glad to hear the weather is getting better so you can go out and really get that spring feeling! Spring in Kentucky – I am sure that is just about as good as it gets for horses! Love your accomplishments and contributions to the world. You are truly a catlyst for bringing attention to important issues! Have a great day LOVE YOU

It was wonderful and Z, you are as gorgeous as ever. So glad to see them interview John and The Mosses. Thanks for the link. I put it on my DVR, but the link is better.
You looked too cute. :)

My Sweet Lady Zenyatta, That is a fabulous photo of John & Dottie. They complement each other & I love their smiles. Zenyatta have you noticed that everyone smiles when they see you or mention your name. In the 60 Minutes segment everyone that talked of you, their face would brighten with a smile! That’s the power of Zenyatta! I really enjoyed seeing you again. You are just so beautiful to behold. It’s how you are able to present yourself in any situation. I’m excited for you to visit with your Cal family this week. I know you’ll enjoy that. I’m pulling for ZaZu. I pray for a safe running. I got to see the whole segment in the south but thanks for the link. I enjoyed it again. SendingHugs & Kisses From Alabama With Love, Amanda G.

Dear Zen– After your magnificent performance last night on 60 minutes, I’m wondering—-WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO STAR IN A MOVIE?
Keep having fun, dear one, enjoy your great family, eat your pears, apples & mints—-but sweetie, I really don’t think you should be having a guinness (I think you know why) Love you always, Lil

Pam Zacek,
that was a great 60 minutes and I loved the way, you drank you beer, so cute, and also, I could, see ya, wanting, to roll, just like you said, in the diary before this last one, see you looking, like going to roll in the grass, then you came over to the fence did a little dance, and took off back with yur buddies, so perfect, came to see the camera, and pose again, what a Queen you are.. Im glad your family is coming to spend lots of time with you,for Kentucky Derby week, and the sale,s, have agreat time. and again, thank you For these diares, we all love them . great read, and great 60 minutes… I think agree with your Jockey, no Male, is worthy of you, Madam.
Cheryl from AZ
Great segment! wouldn’t have missed it for the world! You look ma’velous, da’ling!
Paula Higgins
I think the reason Zenny’s segment was interrupted was of significant national importance. The country has been waiting for this news for 10 years. I know the families of 2,977 people who died on 9/11 have been waiting for it too. As many people have noted, you can access the Zenny segment at cbsnews.com. Dottie/Zenny we will be rooting for ZaZu too and watching this weekend. Very cute picture of you and John with the 60 Minutes hat!
Tere Thomas
Wonderful 60 Minutes segment and thanx soooo much for the link!! I love how the show keeps such good track of you and all your goings on – they know how special you are to everyone. Much love and enjoy your special visitors this week!!

Sorry, posted this at the end of #235, #236 didn’t come up at first:
Happy Monday Zenyatta, Team Z and Z Fans!
@S (in San Diego)–What a great post, very well said. Any idea how close Old Friends is to their goal? I may have to post on their Facebook again to see.
60 Minutes was very “Zen” since I didn’t get to see it the first time around. And how happy did Z look with Pirate Queen?
Thanks Ann, Jerry and Lane’s End for letting 60 Minutes spend time with Zenny again. It is so appreciated. As well as Dottie and John for updating we Z fans with the diary and pictures.
@Ensign–thanks for the name of Rachel’s sister.
Everyone, especially Shari V’s little ones, have a great week as we await the Derby.
Lotsa love to all.
P.S. Good luck Zazu, safe running.
Barb Zylbert
