Good Morning,
As many of you know, last Sunday Santa Anita did such a fabulous thing! They worked with The City of Hope to get people WALKING and FUNDRAISING for Cancer Research! A large crowd of people showed up to participate…including my wonderful friends from the Zenyatta Lounge. They made large signs as you can see in the above photo to help promote the event!
Dottie and John also attended…John with camera in hand…to get some photos for you. Everyone gathered in the paddock right after the last race. The walk proceeded through the tunnel to the racetrack. This is just what I would do when I raced.
Then the fans walked on the track to the top of the stretch where Santa Anita placed the starting gate. This way all of the fans could walk through the gate and experience things just like I would before a race. After this, the fans walked back down the stretch to the WINNERS’ CIRCLE.
It was really a wonderful way to not only fund raise but also to share the different aspects of the race track that fans observe…but never get to experience. Several people commented to Dottie and John that they were ‘now in the paddock’ instead of watching from outside…and then they actually ‘walked on the track’ and ‘through the starting gate’. It was great FUN for ALL….and very importantly FOR A WONDERFUL CAUSE!
Let’s hope that some day…some how…events like this DO FIND A WAY TO BEAT CANCER!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~

I sure wish I still lived in So Cal, I would have been at Santa Anita for this wonderful event! I sure hope they find a cure, I’ve lost many relatives to this awful disease. It’s been 30 days since my husband finished with his radiation treatments, thank God he is doing fine now. Thank You to the ladies at Zenyatta Lounge, Dottie & John, Santa Anita and City of Hope…..I sure hope one day we all can walk in celebration knowing there is a cure. Have a good evening Sweet Zenyatta……hugs to you!

Z, what a wonderful event! Most all of us have been touched by Cancer. I lost my Dad, when he was 58. My best friend, lost her daughter at 26, and she has just gone through Breast Cancer this year. She is an inspiration, as you are. Thank you for making everyone aware, of the stand that these wonderful people were making at the track, with this awesome walk. Blessing to the City of Hope.
Thanks Z, Dottie and Ann.

Dear Dottie and John—Thanks for this inspiring post and your magnanimous participation in the On Track to Beat Cancer event. You are the best!
Dear Kathy B—Thanks for linking to your wonderful photos of this happening—-you made us all feel like we were there. I’m sorry about your mom’s passing after her gallant battle; she surely must be proud of how you have taken the torch and carried it bravely forward.

@kirren, your YouTube link states “This video has been removed by the user.” But I did go back to #229 and find your Facebook link. I was logged into FB, so at first the link only took me to my FB page (like Deborah Richman said above). So I tried logging out of FB, then your link to me to FB’s login page, and when I logged in again, there was your vid, finally. And it’s great, I especially like that it’s your footage, so I haven’t seen it before. A lot of great time with Mario, and bits of when Nina visited Zenny, and of course, her race clips. Well done!

Woohoo Z! Thanks for helping out us humans as well as horses. I don’t know how you manage to keep up with all of this ;) I hope you’re still getting plenty of rest my girl.
Have a great day everyone!!

Sorry about that. I had to take the video off because it uploaded at a terrible resolution. I have re-uploaded it here:

The ‘On Track to Beat Cancer Walk’ was really an inspired idea. Not only did it bring furthered awareness of all the research that still needs to be done to beat this heartbreaking disease but it also raised money towards that research. And the good people at Santa Anita came up with an idea that really brought the crowds out – something that was a truly special experience to those who not only frequent the track but newcomers who were there mainly to support the cause. Who knows, it probably won over some of those ‘newbies’ to get into horse racing. To be able to know what it is like to walk the paddock or go through the tunnel or through the starting gates and around the track – that to me is in and of itself just such a thrill. How I wish I could have been there. From John’s pictures and Kathy B’s pictures we were able to get a good sense of the spirit of the occassion. Pimilico Race Course outside of Baltimore has its 2nd Annual Down the Stretch 5K race to raise awareness of breast cancer during Preakness week (thanks to Amy for that link) and so there is at least one other track that sees the benefit of offering a unique experience to people looking to donate to a worthy cause and at the same time experience something they would not be able to do anywhere else. So, now if other tracks will just ‘get on track’ and come up with similar programs and events, so much more can be done and even more people from all walks of life would be brought together to help fight this terrible disease together.

My heart goes out to those who have mentioned the lives of loved ones whom they have lost and my appreciation grows ever more for those who are survivors, whose positive and uplifting stories and words continue to inspire me and leave me truly in awe of their courage and strength. And of course, Zenyatta has taken us into her heart with her magic to help give strength and courage to many of us whether it is because of cancer, other illnesses, or other situations in life that make us draw upon our inner selves to fight the good fight and do it with heads held high and spirits strong. So thank you Zenyatta yet again for your special part in our lives. And of course thanks to Dottie and John and the Mosses who make this site a place not only of celebrating Zenyatta and not only of the happiness gained in new found friendships but also for the spirit and good will and compassion that has woven its way through-out this site since its beginning. My heartfelt thanks to you for the gift of this special place.

What a wonderful way to support awareness of a horrible disease. My mother died from cancer over 30 years ago and I still think of how she suffered and died way too young. What an imaginitive way to support it and a wonderful way to give racing fans a different look of racing. Thank you Zenyatta team and Santa Anita.

Hi Zenny,

@Dani. I just looked at the picture you posted of LIS and her colt. Just loved it! What a fine, sturdy boy he is and that star and stripe on his face sort of looks like a question mark. LIS looks so content and happy. Does my heart good to see it.
Sure wish we could see some pic’s or videos of Z that are recent. Miss hearing about her and seeing her. I totally understand about the decision to keep news of her recent breeding private but couldn’t we still hear other things about her and her BBF’s, maybe see something of them/her? I don’t know about you guys, but I’m a little starved for news of her right now but I still love the posts Dottie is doing.

Hi this is ally from Mrs.Voltz’s room! I really want to come to Kentcky because it would really AWESOME to go there! Hope your having fun with your horse friends! If I did go to Kentucky with Mrs.Voltz oh how much i would have! Have a good day!

Zenny, What a joy it is to be part of this “diary group” and your life! Receiving ongoing information on wonderful YOU as well as events like the Cancer Walk Racetrack Experience. This is the first time I have ever seen something like this at a horse track. Several of the Nascar tracks have had similar events. Who among us has not had our lives or those of friends affected by this horrible disease? Enough cannot be done to find a cure. Hope you are having a happy and healthy day in KY Queen Z. When will you being seeing Bernie again?
Shari Voltz
@Kirren children loved the video :) Thank you!

Dearest Z–
This is the first time I have posted in over a month due to my knee replacement surgery. I have MISSED you so. I’m learning that rehab exercises can be a full time job, just like you had to constantly train to keep in shape. I did manage to hear that you lost the foal, but I’ve not heard if you are in foal yet again. I guess I’ll learn as time goes by.
What a wonderful fundraiser for breast cancer! We love you for your generous spirit and willing heart.
I apologize to all my friends here for missing out on important things, so if I don’t realize you are going through a particular difficulty, please forgive. Congratulations to all the finalists in the Final Four drawing. I may have missed the BIG Winner. Love you, dear girl, always.
I hated to miss the Apple Blossom this year because of my fond memories of YOU there last year!

Have a good Easter by the way God Bless:)
