Well…my Zenyatta Appreciation Day at Hollywood Park is here!
I am very excited…and yet in so many ways reflective. It was supposed to rain a bit today…but now they are saying the rain will be later tonight and into tomorrow morning. I hope it holds off until evening.
Yesterday, I hosted a barn party for all of my friends at the Shirreffs’ Barn. They were able to bring all of their family members. Dottie made big Z’s to hang from the trees outside like large ornaments with each of the employees names listed on them. It looked so pretty and festive. Everyone ate and relaxed and had a wonderful time. Debby, our caterer, did an amazing job! (She always does.)
Then the Moss’ helped me provide gifts for each person who had worked with me at the barn. They felt it would be a special way for me to say THANK YOU. Ann, Lara and Claudia helped me to pass everything out to all my friends. It was great fun!
Later, I was out grazing…in the back grass area….and people were coming over to see me, get photos, hug me…and thank me for their presents. I think I was a really good hostess. I know I tried to be, for sure.
Right now there are tons of fans here to see me again this morning. Yesterday, Steve counted over 162. Cody ushered groups of 10 back and forth to the barn. Michelle, Isabelle, Steve, and Gary helped to organize the people so they could get their pictures taken with me. Mario helped me poise beautifully for the cameras. It was amazing. Everyone has been so kind.
Later today, it is ZENYATTA APPRECIATION DAY! I’m going to relax a bit after the fans leave this morning…and then get ready for this event. I know Mario, Carmen, and my crew will have me LOOKING GREAT! I hope everyone has a great time.
Last night, before John and Dottie left the barn…John looked and me and gave me a big hug and the greatest compliment of all. He said that people really do love me…and they are really so appreciative of all I have tried to do. In his mind, he said, I am SPECTACULAR in so many ways. As a matter of fact, he hugged me again and said…’There is not one thing about me that is not exceptional…not one!
I guess I am one very lucky horse to have people around me who give me so much love, confidence and respect! Yes, one very, very lucky girl!
With love…and hope to see you at Hollywood Park this afternoon!
Hugs~
Z
PS…Kelley Rose…the barn went crazy over your Marble Cake. They are still raving about it! Thank you for making all of them so happy!

Zennie, Lannie Johnson said it all for me above. We have been so lucky to have been a witness to your greatness. You have done wonders for the world of racing and the world and people in general! I hope you enjoy your big paddock and new found freedom. I am sure you will rule in KY!
Linda
Dear Zenyatta:
Wishing you a safe trip to KY. I hear it’s snowing. Bring penlty of blankets.

On may way to work this morning, I’m thinking the usual..Zenyatta this, Zenyatta that, Zenyatta, Zenyatta, Zenyatta….
THEN I had a Question..CAN ANYONE ANSWER THIS??? Where is Zenattas’ mama? And what are the possibilities that they can see each other again; assuming is she still alive & thriving, and in the Kentucky area. Wouldn,t THAT make all of us ‘heartstruck’ fans feel better about her departure!!!
In the meanwhile it’s going to be a long day, after a sleepless night…worrying about her travels & adjustment to a new home.
We adore you,Z!!! Sue

Dito to Gretchen’s comment! I’ve always loved horses & have loved following you Zenyatta! For me, it was like finding that lost love or love for the first time! From the moment I first saw you, your eyes, your heart, your soul penetrated right through me to my very core. My husband, who does not really follow horses, said “she is just a horse…” I said “No, she is more than ‘just a horse.'” As these magical moments manifested, you captured more and more of my heart!
There have only been a few times in my life when I felt this type of love & appreciation…my husband, the birth of my two children, & love of my family & friends and then you, Zenyatta! Keep up the magic for us, I know you will…we will love you a lifetime.

‘If wishes were horses . ..’ ~ Someone once must have wished for your presence here, ‘Miss Z,’ without even knowing. Lanie Johnson [above] says best what those who are grateful for you believe: that with no guile at all, with summoning every ounce you bring to your trials, your example of genuine love for life draws from us the desire to be be better and truer to potential. ~ People have to decide what is of value. You just can’t help knowing it, so we admire you because we are grateful that your caliber of excellence and gentleness and fun all are possible when we appreciate them, and that when good people help nurture it, greatness results, spilling over everything it touches. Thank you again, M`Lady. No one who knows a thing about you has any excuses for a calloused view of life. ~ A friend in deed.

You have an incredible family around you. All your fans are so appreciative at the generosity they have shown with access to you. They have kept the barn open so we can show you our love and that has been very special. Enjoy life….I know you will be an incredible Mommy!
PS I hope you liked the “Cowboy Magic” my sister gave Mario for your tail!

Zenny, I didn’t think I would cry over your retirement, but you’ve got me crying anyway. I do indeed love you very, very much, and I always will. You’ve given me the ride of a lifetime. Thanks for the memories. I know I’ll never see another one like you in my lifetime, and no horse can ever take your place. That’s part of why your retirement is so sad. It’s sad because I love you, and I don’t want to see you go. However, it’s also sad because the show’s over, and we’ll never get to witness your special brand of greatness ever again. I’m moving to Kentucky in a couple of years, and you can bet that I will come see you on one of your visitation days. I’ll be honored just to be in the same state with you, let alone the same photograph. I love you, Zenny! Take care, and write to us when you get settled in KY.

Bonjour Zenyatta!
I will miss you a great deal, Zenyatta. it saddens me to see you leave.
I hope that you are treated well and have your own team to take care of you so you can have individual care.
Additionally, I sincerely hope that Mr. and Mrs. Moss checks in on you just to make sure that things are going well for you.
It would break my heart if you are mistreated.
Lots of love to you, Zenyatta!
