Good Morning Everyone,
Yesterday the drawing of the 64 names took place in my stall at Barn 55. Steve and Mario each drew 32 names from the big tubs. Before this, we put ALL of the cards into these tubs and mixed them around and separated stacks of them at a time like you would a deck of cards. Then Steve further stirred and mixed them over and over again by transferring them from one big bucket to another and shaking them around. He poured 1/2 the cards into one tub and the rest remained in the 2nd container. This took quite a bit of time, as we wanted to be sure all of the cards were separated properly.
After this, Steve and Mario went into my stall to get ready to draw the cards. They turned their heads (NO PEEKING) and each drew out 32 postcards. John took the photos!

PS…So sorry I could not post the names yesterday afternoon as we originally stated. They are just completing the painting of John’s office at the house…and all of the computers were covered up late yesterday and Dottie could not use them. Painting will be done soon! (YEAH…then John can hang up some great photos of ME again!) Thank you for your patience and for being so understanding!
Sharon in Seattle
also Patti Tan in Point Roberts, WA!! 4 Washingtonians in the final 64. The good wishes of all those who submitted cards and whose names were not drawn is really touching.

Hi Cathy Lassila – I was thinking of attending opening day too. Maybe we could wear big name signs and meet at at the winners circle !!!! Too cute, as Zenny would say!! when is opening day?
S (in san diego)
I know I have posted a couple of times already today. But I have been a fan of Zenny for years and have been reading and posting since the beginning. Somedays, early on, after a 10 or 12 hour day I just scan the comments and leave a message of my love and appreciation to Team Z and the Big Girl herself. But now, I find I am reading each word, each story, each update as if reading a note or letter from a good friend. I feel for your loses and trials and seconds later, down the page, inspired. I find my self praying for some during my quiet time and looking for your follow up post to see how your are. This has become so much more then just a group of Zenny fans following her. Dottie…you have created something very special. Thank you all…you have become my go to place at the end of the day.
Heidi Kruckenberg
You know, I looked over the list earlier and didn’t see my name and then, a friend who I met blogging about you, our Queen, asked if that was me at #5. So, I had to come and take another look. Yipeeee, it is me. Dottie…, Ummmm, Zenny it’s not spelt, Kruckenbert, it’s spelt, “Kruckenberg.”
I saw some of your b-day pics on facebook from one of your visitors. Loved the picture of you all dirty and the one with the carrot stems hanging out of your mouth! I just love you Zenny and the entire Z Team ( Ca and KY)!!!!
S (in sand diego), isn’t it amazing how a horse can bring so many people from so many different but, yet similar walks of life together?! You have to love it. I’ve met some good friends through Zenyatta!
Hugs and Peppermind and pear kisses..

2nd post: @Alma: You are right, time will heal. Your Sweetpie is ever present, and the memories will bring comfort, smiles will come, also. I understand very well– life without a dog is, for me, unthinkable. Each of us heals at our own pace. When we are ready, there will be room for another “earth angel” who needs us and whom we need. Take care.

Congratulations to the 64 lucky winners of the first drawing! I wish you luck for the second drawing…Jean

Hi Z, You are so smart maybe you will think of something interesting to do with all of the post cards that did not get selected? Have a few days to think about this. I bet a great idea will come to you. love ya!
Anne
Good luck to all! I never sent a card so when I didn’t see my name on the list, I wasn’t too upset…ha..
It will be a lovely honor to have a bronze statue of Zenyatta on anyone’s desk, mantle or bedstand.
Sorry for anyone losing a pet. It sure does take a piece of your heart each time it happens. We are lucky to have had such a wonderful pet to bless us as long as they could. It was a truly a special gift!
Love the shrine in Z’s stall. That shows their love and admiration for their star.
Enjoy you day Z. You will always be our number 1.
Again, good luck to all!

Jenn
Congrats to all!

Dani
@Mario and Steve if you are reading Zenny’s diary – I meant to give a big shout out hello yesterday. It’s good to see you again. It seems so long since we’ve seen you. The stall just gets better and better looking with each piece of Zenyatta folklore that is added. Love how the children’s birthday card looks hanging on the wall. So adorable. You both look great, big smiles and all and you look like you are enjoying your role in the contest. I’m sure Zenyatta misses you and I know you must miss her terribly. A personality and life force like she is leaves a void in one’s life when they leave. But all the photos and news you get from Dottie and the fun people at Lane’s End I’m sure helps a lot. And I know you’ve got many terrific horses that keep you very busy and that you love as well. Good luck and hope Barn 55 wins lots of races. Best wishes ~ Dani

Dear Zenyatta Good morning. I hope you have some sunshine because in EL it is raining again. We just took our class picture and held one of your pictures in with the children. They also yelled Zenyatta on the count of three to smile. How cute is that. I read to the children about you birthday party. They really liked the picture of you all muddy. I told them you got your bath after that. They thought you looked good with the mud :) Well sweet girl enjoy your day with the girls and we All send you our love. Hugs and Kisses from Shari Voltz and Homeroon 215
@MLV if you go on Rainbow Bridge’s website you can have a little site made for Oliver. My little dog Titus is there. View his site to see if it is for you. It cost $25.00 a year and the money goes to a shelter. I hope this helps. God bless
Rosemary McCauley
Yippee! The first 64! Congratulations and good luck to all.
Delrene
Dear Zenyatta – Today I read that Bernardini’s Daddy was pensioned. Now it’s you and Bernardini that will carry on a wonderful thoroughbred lineage. I hope Bernie’s Daddy has a wonderful retirement with lots of carrots and peppermints. I’m sure he will enjoy his retirement and they will take super good care of him.
Have a wonderful day in Kentucky!!! We will be seeing Mike tomorrow at the Santa Anita Derby.
LauraJ
Well, now we know why Zenyatta wasn’t sent to AP Indy. Best wishes to him for a long and happy retirement. He’s earned it.
Gloria Jeanne
I ordered one of the long sleeve jersey’s from the Breeder’s cup, it’s really cool because it has Zenny and Mike on it and it’s of her Winning the 2009 Breeder’s Cup. It’s really cool. :)
Molly
Sharon Call, hope you found the video site that I listed above concerning the Santa Barbara teacher in a wheelchair visiting Zenyatta. The video Of John Shirreffs talking about this fan is so inspirational.
Nancy L
I can’t wait…but I guess I’ll have to. And besides, I am a grown-up and grown-ups should have patience, right? Anyway, this is great fun! Thank you Team Zenyatta and all the bloggers.
zenyattaloveramy!
I LOVE YOU ZENYATT ENJOY YOUR B-DAY !!!! SWEET GIRL!!
LauraJ
@Gloria Jeanne, I bought one of those shirts at the Breeders’ Cup last year. It’s a nice quality, substantial fabric. You’ll like it.

Congratulations to all that made the first drawing. It will be fun to watch the rest unfold, and read the final post card/s.
@MLV
@Alma
My sympathy & empathy to both of you. Our animal companions are a part of our family, and we suffer their loss tremendously. It is the price we pay, for having the capacity to deeply love. Perhaps you both might think of adopting another dog? There are so many in need, and deserving, of loving homes. Every dog I have had has a unique and special place in my memory, my heart, and in my history. (I once had 3 dogs at the same time). All were rescues, and when each one passed, I would soon adopt another. One cannot bring back one’s cherished dog – but one can save the life of another, and open one’s heart and home again – to living, and to joy.

@audreyc–Well said.
Pattie
Good Luck to all entered in the Santa Anita Derby tommorrow. I pray all horses & jockeys have a safe racing day.
I’m off to groom my horses. They are shedding like crazy….brush, brush & more brushing!! They love it & so do I :)
Shema
Hi everyone! Well, I didn’t make the first cut, but I see that quite a few who live in my area did! (I live in Fairfax CA – northern CA). So, congratulations to my neighbors! and to everyone in the first 64 – how exciting! I know it’s all about showing our love to Zenyatta and her Team! And that we’re doing in grand style!
I’ll be watching Santa Anita Derby and Wood Memorial this Sat. live on NTRA.com.
I’ve never paid this much attention to the pre Derby races and hopefuls before.
Zenyatta, you are the cause of the inspiration … along with your voice of Dottie, and your photographer in John, and everyone who supports them and the Mosses.
I’m feeling a lot of appreciation right now.
And oh, Zen, do let Dottie know she has the BEST smile in my book!!!
Shema
S (in San Diego) … loved your post today, spoke so beautifully from the heart … and speaks of my feelings also … It’s the post that ends with: “Dottie…you have created something very special. Thank you all…you have become my go to place at the end of the day.”
Yes, this is my place to come to at the end of the day, beginning of the day, and during my breaks.
love to you all.
And I keep relooking at the picture of Z eating her birthday cake. Gosh, she looks so perfectly beautiful in that photo!
