Good Morning Everyone,
Yesterday the drawing of the 64 names took place in my stall at Barn 55. Steve and Mario each drew 32 names from the big tubs. Before this, we put ALL of the cards into these tubs and mixed them around and separated stacks of them at a time like you would a deck of cards. Then Steve further stirred and mixed them over and over again by transferring them from one big bucket to another and shaking them around. He poured 1/2 the cards into one tub and the rest remained in the 2nd container. This took quite a bit of time, as we wanted to be sure all of the cards were separated properly.
After this, Steve and Mario went into my stall to get ready to draw the cards. They turned their heads (NO PEEKING) and each drew out 32 postcards. John took the photos!

They are just completing the painting of John’s office at the house…and all of the computers were covered up late yesterday and Dottie could not use them. Painting will be done soon! (YEAH…then John can hang up some great photos of ME again!) Thank you for your patience and for being so understanding!

ALL, Black Caviar is running again in AU on Saturday. She is now ranked the #1 filly (currently racing) in the world. If anyone is able to find a video of the race later in the day, would you be so kind as to post the link either here on on Z’s fb. Would really appreciate it. Also, another great group of ‘girls’ running in the Ashland at Keeneland on Saturday. I’m sure you and your girls will hear all about it Zenny. I loved that Mr Farrish, regarding A P Indy, said, even though pensioned, he will remain in the stall he has occupied for 20 years. That was lovely to hear.

Thought u might like to know, Mr Cho’s (the trainer)son posted on Premier Pegasus fb, that Prepeg had his surgery today & is already back at the barn They expect a full recovery and he should be able to train soon.
That’s good news.

My Sweet Lady Zenyatta,I hope you had a wonderful Friday. It has been a beautiful spring day here in Alabama. Before I retire for the evening I always read your post again. Dottie, it is so wonderful to have a place for Zenyatta’s Fan Family to meet. This place is very special because we all share a love for Zenyatta and we care about each other. Good luck to the 63 with me and I look forward to seeing the list of 32! It is really exciting to think about and wonder who will make it. I love you, Zenyatta. Sending Hugs & Kisses From Alabama With Love, Amanda G.

BLACK CAVIAR just won again– “the best (now-racing) in the world”–it was already Saturday in Australia, but Friday night here in California. Twelve for twelve! Congratulations to another super mare!

I, too, try to read the posts at night and see different subjects raised for comment, then see another great post, then some other great post. It’s hard to keep track of all the wonderful things that are being discussed and I’ll think later that I missed mentioning some. But one today really hit home (Gloria Jeanne). After watching (and betting) on the 2010 Breeder’s Cup I was devastated as we all were. I had taped it at home but have never been able to watch the program replay because I was afraid to see Zenyatta bewildered or upset at not winning (though we all agree SHE DID WIN). So thank you so very very much for telling us about Dottie’s thought that Zenyatta believes she won. Coming from someone who knows and loves her so well, I know it is true. You made my day!!!
Dearest Zenyatta, we all love you so much and it is exciting that you have chosen to create our very own 64, with a wonderful Prize to the final No. 1. Good luck to all. And, thank you, Dottie and the rest of Team Z for all you do to help us keep Zenyatta in our worlds.

@ TRINA. Thanks for Black Caviar update.
Gloria Jeanne
Good Luck to All 64 of us for the results posting of the next 32 to go on.
Marshall (girl's name)
@Audreyc: My sentiments exactly.– very well said. Each angel has its own special place in your heart, and the heart’s capacity is limitless. The presence of one
does not diminish another. Each one is unique.
Zenyatta, you are unique!
Char
Hey! I’m #51 on the list of those picked. How exciting! I meant every word that I wrote on the card. Zenyatta – you’re a once-in-a-lifetime horse!!!
Marshall (girl's name)
Again, Good Luck to All! Go for the Gold,
uh, make that the Bronze! Love you, Zenyatta!
@Alma: Sorry for misspelling your angel’s
name – Sweetiepie. It was a typo, and I do
apologize.

To: Sharon Call,
Thank you so much for the link “Into the Vortex”. I had never seen it before. What a great tribute to Z and Ms. Whitney really “got it”. There’s some wonderful, special people who came together through our beautiful Zenyatta. Love to all of you. Judy and Russ

Zenny, it seems it’s LADIES DAY in Australia! BLACK CAVIAR won again (at 6 furlongs—she’s a sprinter), and another FILLY, Shamrocker, won the 150th running of the David Jones Australian Derby at 1½ miles (I think–correct me if I’m wrong). It was the first time a filly had won this race in 120 YEARS! Dear Z, I think you are inspiring them!
Trina Nagele
@Kitie—Thanks for the link to the book Letters to Seabiscuit. I’ve ordered a copy! I loved Laura Hillenbrand’s biography of the Biscuit and his connections. I’m sure I’ll love these collected letters.published by Barbara Howard, who was given them by her great aunt Marcela Howard, co-owner with her husband Charles of Seabiscuit.
@Shema—I feel the same: this is the spot to visit at every opportunity.
@Sharon Call— Many thanks for posting the link to the outstanding essay “Into the Vortex” (the vortex of love for Z, that is) by Elizabeth Whitney. I am one of those people who have come upon this website only recently, and I would have missed this if you hadn’t posted it again. She makes you feel like you are right beside her as she describes her pilgrimage to Louisville to watch the Queen defend her title. I had seen the picture of the heart she wove with leaves into the chain-link of the fence next to Zenyatta’s grazing area at Churchill Downs, and now I know the story behind it. This is MUST READ MATERIAL: http://timebandit15.wordpress.com/2010/11/16/into-the-vortex/
Trina Nagele
OOPS—I just read on the Internet that a filly, Research, won the David Jones Australian Derby in 1989, so the “120 years” that I heard on the TV wasn’t correct–it would be 22 years. Sorry.
Trina Nagele
Dearest Zenny—When you hear what the jockey said who was riding the colt that came in second to the filly Black Caviar, it sounds like he was “playing your song.” Do you remember Liza Fly’s song about you? In the sixth verse, she wrote:
Zenyatta, Zenyatta, the other jocks say,
“You’ll think you’re alive; she’ll just blow you away.
Come into the lane, you can look, you won’t find her.
You feel the ground rumble and then you’re behind her.”
Well, here’s what it says about the jockey who was riding second-place Hay List: “Jockey Glyn Schofield briefly thought he was in with a chance. ‘I could hear her [Black Caviar] coming,’ he said. “Then she hit overdrive and I could see her going.” That’s what it was like for all those who raced against you, Queen Z!
Brenda
I’m waiting anxiously here in Canada for the list of 32 and hoping that my card is a lucky one again. Thanks to my fellow Canuck for the good wishes. I’ll be visiting Lanes End in July and so happy that AP will still be there, I’m looking forward to seeing him and Langfuhr. Lots of love Zenny. P.S. I think we have a typo on my last name, it’s SprInger.
Linda
@ J Smith & @ Trinia Nagele- Wow, I just watched Black Caviar win on youtube! I have never even heard of her. Thanks for posting about this fabulous mare. I am going to find out more about her. She is a sprinter and just explodes to win so easily.
Kathy Kimber
I want to urge all of you to read Abigail Anderson’s blog http://racingvault.blogspot.com/horseracingpast&present. she has a great article up on Kentucky Derby winner Needles. He was a third generation winner of the Derby. I really like the in depth worth she does on these bios. Also when you go there please click on any of the adds. Money raised goes to horse rescue and doesn’t cost us anything. Zeny have a great day and good luck to the “64”
LauraJ
@Everybody, good Saturday morning. Anybody feel like saving a life today? I’m posting a link to a horse rescue in California that needs immediate assistance to bail three horses out of a Nevada feedlot and transport them to safety. If they are not saved they will go to a Mexican slaughterhouse. This is the last day before the truck comes. Two are yearlings, and the other is a gentle gelding in his prime. I’ve donated to this rescue before and have talked to the president of the organization. It is a good outfit. Your donation is tax deductible.

Good luck to “The 64!” I too believe that I am lucky because I was around to follow your racing career Zenny, and now I am fortunate enough to be able to follow your new life through this website. Thank you Dottie and Team Zenyatta! I enjoy reading about all horses and reading about new Thoroughbred standouts like Uncle Mo and Dialed In is exciting, but Zenyatta – your retirement left a big hole in racing! There will never be another you. I wonder if you and your Team can ever fully realize just how much you mean to all of us? We are all just so blessed to have this kind of access to you. So many times when a horse retires, you hear very little about him or her again. But thanks to your Team, we can continue to follow you and share in your life. This is just incredible! God bless you Zenny, and all Team Zenyatta. Thank you so much for everything. :)
Delores Baker
Good morning my precious Z. Good luck to all the 64. Today is the day for the 32.
Thank you Dottie and Team Z for all the postings and especially keeping us up to date on our precious girl Z. Zenyatta, I am honored to be on the list of 64 and if that is as far as I go, it is an honor to be on your website on the list. I love you with all my heart and soul and you will always be my precious Z. Have a great Saturday and am anxiously waiting the 32 list. Love you lotsXOXOXOXOXO
Janet Cutting
Hello Zenny and everyone: last night I was looking at lots of video clips of Zenny racing and interviews etc.. and wondering if while Z was in training –Did John ever ride her? or the Mr and Mrs Moss, Mario? Also, my dog Max has a yeast infection in his ear–but got drops and he should be A-OK!!!Have a great Saturday everyone. Thanks, Janet C
Dani
@Sharon Call – wonderful essay ‘Into the Vortex’. Really opens the flood gates of memories to the BC race and the days there after. I always wondered who had made that heart out of leaves that adorned the fence. And I mist up as I smile at Dottie’s comment that Zenyatta thinks she won. Just superb writing and I agree a must read. Thanks for the link.
Karey R
@Janet Cutting – Thank you for the follow up on Max’s ear situation. It’s very good news that he is on the mend!
nancy
According to the few men in the list of 64, I’d say Zenyatta has created quite a women’s movement!! Good going Z!
Hernan Tovar
My dear Zenyatta,
I want to tell you, last night I watch Black Caviar race. She is beautiful, she is very good, in this moment she is the best horse…
But, she is not you! Now I miss you more and more.
Ingrid from South Beach.
