Good Morning Everyone!
Wow! What a day I had yesterday! IT WAS A GIRLS’ DAY with my California friends coming to Kentucky to celebrate my birthday! The pictures are getting downloaded and I will share them with you next week!
We had a great, great time! And YES…my cake had some fabulous frosting!
On another note, I was honored for getting the WILLIAM H. MAY AWARD recently. A horse has NEVER received this honor before…I am the first! I AM REALLY SO PROUD!
Read about it by clicking HERE!
I truly want to THANK EVERYONE WHO WORKED SO HARD to HELP ME be acknowledged for this AWARD!
Happy Saturday!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@Ann Maree– Thanks for the tip to watch Dail In, and congratulations to him on his gutsy and successful finishing charge in the Florida Derby, a la Zenny.

Hi Queen, I’m so glad you had a great day on your birthday… Looking forward to seeing the pics. You deserve every award possible for horseracing…Trust me, you would win “Dancing with the Stars” if you were on it… All those moves and fancy footwork you displayed. Do you still dance?????
KIMBERLY
Oh ya, I would like to also know if there is a new 2010 racing DVD made about you?????
J Smith
VALERIA, Tosco is one of my fav’s too. On Santa Anita’s website they list him as a possible runner for the S.A. Derby next Saturday. I asked him if he was going to run, awaiting a reply. Santa Anita Derby will be a good one, all our CA boys who are KY hopefulls will be in it. Look out for Premier Pegasus, he has been training FAST.
Karey R
@Dawn Conrad: Thanks for picking up on that. For me the phrase “ears forward” will now be Zenyatta reminding me that I can persevere, even in the toughest times, with her noble spirit as my guide. It says so much about her, doesn’t it?
Annika
Hi Zenny, I’m so glad you liked your cake. Wish I was there. Wonderful that you got the award as the first horse ever. We all knew it for sure, but that shows again how special you are. Enjoy all the love you get!! Big kisses and I Love You<3. XXX Annika

Zenny…You have got to watch the women’s NCAA final. Talk about facing a challenge head on…both Notre Dame and Texas A & M upset the favs in great contests of will and talent.
Hooves crossed for your date with Bernie today…I know we’ll be getting great news from you soon.

Video?!?!? No fancy editing needed. My favorite videos are those released by John S. Simple and about the horse and people with the horse. Please no music! Thanks much.
Donna
Dialed In is awesome, he is by Mineshaft standing at the one and only Lanes End.
Z, he runs just like you, he is going to mow them all down in the Derby.

@J Smith, lucky you living near The Great Race Place! It’s so beautiful. I’d love to go there someday. What do you locals think about the new track?
—
I live less than half an hour from two tracks–Turfway in Florence KY and River Downs in Ohio. Turfway’s grandstand is enclosed. It’s not pretty, but you can go when the weather is bad. (It holds the cigarette smoke in, though.) River Downs is old fashioned, but its location on the river makes it very pretty in the summer. The barns are to the east of the track and you don’t see them from the grandstand. Instead, you get trees and the Kentucky hills in the background. They’re very proud of their turf course. Unfortunately, neither track advertises. Keeneland does, though. Their billboards sprout every March and September like clockwork.

Dear website friends: I realized something else about the increasing social activity on this site and my sense of standing outside of it. I am not a horse racing fan even after falling in love with Zenyatta. I can’t really participate in that thread, which runs through so many of your reciprocal posts, increasingly as the racing season approaches (if there is a racing season–you see my ignorance of the sport).
To Karey R: Thank you for the beautiful words in response to #214. You wrote: “being in the moment, experiencing all things as they arise (out of the Oneness), impermanence, suffering, compassion, acceptance…” I do find mindfulness teachings (which are more universal than Buddhism alone) deep, calming, and also poignant–everything coming into being and passing away.
To Mary Hale: Thank you very much for your appreciation of #214 also.
To Amanda Gilliland: Thank you for appreciating the thought I’ve had throughout my time on this site about Zenyatta and the human/animal bond.

Congratulations, Zenny! You deserve all the awards you can get! Can’t wait to see the pictures from your visit with your CA friends.

p.s. if you move the page to the right using the arrow, that awful ‘little red grinch’ will disappear :)

I read where you won the award, well done and well deserved. I am so glad your California friends paid you a birthday visit. Did you get any Guiness along with your birthday cake? I look forward, everyday, to your posts. It makes me smile and starts the day in such a positive way. I love you.

A BIG P.S.

Hello Zenyatta: You are like that battery bunny–You just keep on going, and the awards just keep on coming! I’m not one bit surprised that you have reached yet another “first” in your life. Way to go, Great Mare. xoxoxoxo

Dear Zeny! Congratulations on the award. This is why you are so special. Hugs, MV
@Robbie: Thank you for your thoughts in #214. You said- Perhaps a lesson this foal that came into being for such a short time has for us fans is to live more in the present moment, and try not to have such excited expectations and imaginings about the future. The future will unfold in its own time (thinking here about Zenyatta breeding again with Bernardini). Meanwhile, Zenyatta is alive and healthy, and we all have the good fortune to love Zenyatta and to write to her without worrying about species difference.
Robbie: This is a wonderful thought to share. I feel the same way. Not to get ahead of ourselves. Patience for the wonderful blessing to unfold at the right time. Thanks again Robbie!
Zeny and Family Congratulatins again! MV

Zenyatta, you pull at my heartstrings and you do “light up my life”. Oh, I cannot wait to see the pictures of you celebrating your birthday with some of your California friends. You’ll be “California Dreamin'” tonight. Love, Ya, Zenyatta.

Zenyatta, you deserve to be honored. There will never be another race horse like Secretariat, BUT there will never be a race horse as dearly loved as you are. Thank you for bringing me back to horse racing.
Susan A.
Dear Zenyatta,
I am so happy that you had a wonderful birthday celebration; seven is a lucky number!!!

It’s always good to see old friends and I’m glad you had a chance to see your dear ones from California! I’m sure they miss you and were so happy to see you again. Happy Belated Birthday, special girl!

@Robbie, congratulations on your impending retirement. I’m not retired yet, but I have friends who are. They are thriving. Some went back to school, some started businesses, many do a lot of traveling. Most do volunteer work. One couple built a boat and sailed around the world. One founded a dog rescue. Some are contractors and work when they want to. Anyway, I’m sure you’ll find it to be a whole new set of opportunities.

As for not following the racing discussions, that’s the nature of social networking. With so many regular posters and sometimes hundreds of posts per diary entry, we are not all going to be interested in the same things. Just skip the stuff that does not pique your interest. I do. No one is going to be offended or even know. (Maybe give racing a try, though. You might like it. :-) )

There is a racing season, sort of. Horse racing occurs all year round, but it picks up steam in the spring. Right now the season is leading up to the Kentucky Derby and the other two Triple Crown races—the Preakness and the Belmont. The 3-year-old hopefuls are running in “prep races” trying to get ready physically for the Derby, and trying to accumulate enough earnings to qualify. There will be lots of racing all over the country until the Breeders’ Cup. After that, it will be confined mostly to warm-weather tracks or places with all-weather surfaces and indoor seating.

My dear Zenyatta,I agreed with the above Jane & Kay, I also love horse racing, but when Barbaro & Eight Bells died,I was broken hearted…But you,Zenyatta, brought back my hope in horse racing!!!!
I thank you,GOD BLESS YOU,I love you for ever…
