Good Morning Everyone!
Wow! What a day I had yesterday! IT WAS A GIRLS’ DAY with my California friends coming to Kentucky to celebrate my birthday! The pictures are getting downloaded and I will share them with you next week!
We had a great, great time! And YES…my cake had some fabulous frosting!
On another note, I was honored for getting the WILLIAM H. MAY AWARD recently. A horse has NEVER received this honor before…I am the first! I AM REALLY SO PROUD!
Read about it by clicking HERE!
I truly want to THANK EVERYONE WHO WORKED SO HARD to HELP ME be acknowledged for this AWARD!
Happy Saturday!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Dear All: Yesterday a friend sent an e`mail re: preferred safety precautions under earthquake conditions called ‘The Triangle of Life,’ which encourages stepping into a triangular space next to a car/building/structure, away from stairs, even doorjams; this forms the triangle. ~ Very quickly, this was taken to task, and The American Red Cross issued its own directive, and countered with its preferred ‘Duck/Cover’ stand, stating that US Building Codes, different from other countries, still offers the best procedure and counsel. Now, there are reams of the discussion swirling about, but it might be wise to check on them, research and decide some strategies, depending on where you are when these crises hit. Building codes matter, according to ARC. Not meant to alarm anyone, but sending it along, hoping knowledge IS power, when needed. And your own best wisdom, w/ information, the best guide to trust. Khc.

Congratulations to you and your team on the latest award. You deserve the award for all your contributions to racing. The fact that you have not just disappeared to Lane’s End and that your team continues to tell your story after your retirement from racing will have a very positive effect. If nothing else, it shows the vital importance of retired mares to the future of racing. You are a great Queen.
susan
congrats on the award! well deserved! i think you have done for racing what michael jordan did for basketball. people recognize brilliance and that “something special” when they see it!! glad you had a fun birthday, sweetheart!
Annie
Zenyatta, congratulations on receiving the May Award. You richly deserve all the accolades you have received and more. Have to share a story with you this morn. My nephew placed his son in a gymnastics class to help him focus. He is an attention deficit student. Anyway, turns out he was a naturally gifted gymnist. Just found out this morning that he made the Nationals. How great is that. Take care, Sweet Zeny.

Happy Sunday, Zenny! Must be so nice in retirement not to have to think about Monday and going back to work! Happy to hear about your birthday guests–so glad they could visit. We’re looking forward to all the photos. Yes, there are so many firsts surrounding your amazing accomplishments–there’s never been anyone like you before! You ARE SPECIAL! If you’re watching racing today, don’t forget about Bernardini’s boy on the West Coast! WILBURN and MIKE SMITH are up in the 7th race today @ Santa Anita, going a mile this time…hooves crossed! Love you!
Janet
Congratulations to you Zenny and your team for this latest award! You deserve it! I’m glad you had a great birthday. My birthday is this week. I like that our birthday’s are so close together. I love you Z!

@Tory and almost everybody (gentlemen, this is for the ladies), you are right that most of the posters here are female. Most of Zenny’s FB fans probably are. Women write great blogs and make astute comments in The Blood Horse, too. IT DOESN’T MATTER. Ladies, if we want the Throughbred industry to treat us as important, then we have to get involved financially. This mostly means betting, at the track if at all possible. So please, go to your local track and plunk down some money at the windows. If you don’t know how, every track’s website has a “wagering 101” section, and every track has an employee whose job it is to show you how. If you are too young or otherwise can’t or shouldn’t gamble, you can still contribute. Visit the gift shop and buy something. Pay for parking. Upgrade your seat. Buy food. Buy a program or the Daily Racing Form. Be present. When there are as many women in line at the parimutuel windows, we will get respect. (If you are already doing this, thank you and keep it up. Invite your girlfriends. And Tory, this is not directed at you personally. You made the observation and it seemed like a good starting point.)

Have you thought about becoming involved as an owner? If you’ve got the financial wherewithal, think about joining a partnership. It’s fun. Some are inexpensive. More women owners would help too.
—
My final suggestion is as follows. Next time you see a horse race on TV, especially on ESPN or network television, email them to let them know you watched. Let them know you would like more. Support their advertisers. If you saw an ad and made a purchase, write the advertiser and tell them that’s where you saw their ad.

Just some food for thought–back to your regularly scheduled thread. :-)

How wonderful is that! You have done more for racing than words could describe. I know people who dont know anything about horses or racing, but they know who Queen Z is! Thanks for sharing the Queen with us.

Zenyatta,
Sounds like you had a fun BD with all your CA girls. I bet you got a lot of treats and presents :) Can’t wait to see the photos of your big day. Be healthy & happy big mama.
@Joyce, Are you talking about Sam Houston Race Park and Mac trying to get Zenyatta & RA there to race :)

Zenny, I can’t wait to see the photo’s of your birthday celebration. The award is so wonderful and so rightly deserved. Thank you to Ms. Zenyatta and all of her connections, if it wasn’t for all of you we wouldn’t have been able to experience so very much of what you have accompolished in your career. I have watched you from afar (the East Coast) since your third race and hope one day to be able to see you in Kentucky. But what you have brought to horse racing has been wonderful, I just hope and pray more owners, trainers, etc. will step up to the plate so more fans will feed connected which will ultimately draw in more new fans. Life is changing and it would tear my heart out to see horse racing become a thing of the past. We need more like you Zenny, John, Dottie and of course the Mosses. Thank you for sharing her with us. I continue to follow you Zenny and will as long as I possibly can. Happy Birthday again. XXXXOOOO :)

Queen Z…congratulations on the William May award, you deerve it! Sounds like a great birthday party with Dottie and Ann Moss. I had brunch this moring, bananas, pears, peppermints etc. and thought of you, grazing on that good Kentucky blue grass. @LauraJ, I agree with you completely about needing more women to support racing financially to get women the respect there that they deserve. I wanted to add, horseplayernow.com is currently having a series of free Monday classes online called “Night School” that I find great fun and hugely educational. If you enjoy learning here from the Z team, give that a try, too. If you can’t do it on Monday night, all the classes are archived for viewing later. I found the first one disorganized and confusing, so you might not want to start with it. Last week’s, on workouts, might have been my favorite so far. And you know, you can sign up for a free account at twinspires.com, and watch free live racing all over the world. Then if you want to place a bet in private, for practice before you go to the track, you can do it right there. Good luck!
Maryyette
Congratulations, Sweetheart!

Zenyatta all these awards meant for people and given to you is just wonderful what a great ambassador you are for racing.
I was happy to get the facebook link for Pepper’s Pride as I have followed her careet since the beginning.
Also I would like to mention that Cathy Roby passes away. She was in charge of the care of the Throughbreds and the Kentucky Horse Park and was so dedicated to them. I know her equine friends miss her she was a great lady always very accomodating to the public and I know she will be missed. I’m pretty sure when she went thru those heavenly gates John Henry was there to greet her and asking for peppermings.
I’m so happy your “family” got to be with you for your birthday and I’m looking foreard to the Pictures. Don’t know how Dottie keeps up so well with the postings. Thanks her for me. Love to all

Dear Zenny – Congratulations on your award!!! It is no wonder that you are the first horse to receive the award. I am so happy that you got to see your friends from California for your birthday. I hope you loved your cake. Can’t wait to see the pictures. Love you beautiful girl. xoxoxoxo
P.S. If you are 7 in horse years — how old are you now in human years?

Hi Z,from very warm Texas. I like many on this site have watched and bet races for years. The bigger the race I sit and watch and never bet, just the thrill of seeing them run many times is a thrill. Great champions with the heart and soul, it is breathtaking to observe.
I happened across Z after her 2nd race and yes, very frustrated at the lack of coverage or respect she deserved. I have bet on 2 of your races. The first BC Classic a $2 to win and I still have that ticket. A $2 win at the last BC Classic just to have your name printed on the ticket, what a keepsake. That night I walked to my bus to return to the hotel ever bet any of your other races, see it was all about you, never about the money.
Z, no one has mentioned on the board that all Euro countries will boycott the US until they abandon use of drugs on race day. I hope it happens, but , no preformance drugs at anytime in the US, is what I hope for.
I still miss you on the track, but very happy you can now just be a horse, a super horse!!!!
Love ya Z
Elaine
A well deserved award for the Queen!

@ Valeria, very nice post.
@ Laura J, good points. I do try to go to the track, I am fortunate to live near Santa Anita, which is beautiful. It’s actually a cheap day out. Parking & entry are inexpensive, and you can make $2.00 bets. You can have a nice afternoon out for less than $20. which is cheap if you are on a budget. When one’s cash flow is better, even if you bet $5. on a few races, it’s still not expensive compared to a lot of entertainment. I have been by myself on several occasions and, of course, when at Hollywood Park watching Zenyatta, I met some nice guys who always email me when they are going to the races. So thanks to Zenny, I always have racing buddies to go with now. Don’t be afraid to go by yourselves ladies, the racecourse is very user friendly. I don’t know about other courses, but Santa Anita has Clockers Corner, where you can have breakfast any day and watch the horses training. So you don’t even have to go when racing is on to support your local track. Next Saturday is the Santa Anita Derby, that will be a fun day to go. I am planning to go if anyone wants to join me.
Do let us know if any you venture to your local track for the first time.
