Hello Everyone,
I truly want to thank all of you for the heartfelt wishes and love you have expressed to me since hearing ‘my not in foal at this moment’ news! You are so sweet and gracious in your kindness to nurture ME at this time! I so appreciate all of your concern!
I am really doing fine. In reality, this is not an uncommon thing to happen with a maiden mare like I am. It happened early in the breeding season so I will have ample time to be bred again and get in foal. As I mentioned before, so many things in life don’t always go as planned. Upon reflection, I know with my career, it would have been great to run at 2 or early 3…but I just wasn’t ready. Fortunately, MY TEAM knew that and worked with me on my own individual developmental schedule.
In relation to this current news, it is simply a minor set-back…but I will be fine. I guess I just love to do things at my own pace!
Please remember, I AM A GREAT FINISHER! Once I get into the rhythm of things…I have a history of repeating the pattern successfully…19 times in a ROW! Now that thought is just TOO CUTE!
Again, thank you…ALL OF YOU…for the love and concern you have so kindly expressed to ME!
Have a wonderful day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Dearest, Zenyatta. Once again, you and Dottie have put us first with your wonderful words of appreciation for our concern and support. It is so special to be part of such an outpouring of love. You are right, everything in it’s own time. You are like a fantastic bottle of wine, time develops greatness. Not only did you finish strong, you always looked like you could go back around again, that’s what you are doing now. Love the picture, you are one amazing cover girl. Some cottonball company is sure missing a great opportunity for an ad. Tomorrow is the big day, can’t wait. Hope the sun is shining today so you can relax and enjoy a little nap in the sun. Sweet dreams. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
@Karen Mitchell – How lucky is Zenny to have such a special, kind women share her birthday. :)
@Jo-An Holleman – I am so sorry for the loss of your son. My mother lost her son (my beloved brother) and it is something that no parent should have to suffer. I am glad that you are finding joy in your “horse stuff” especially Zenny. Many blessings to you.
Linda
Zenyatta, you’re right it will happen at your own pace. Your picture is beautiful as always. Thanks Dottie for Zenyatta’s diary.

It’s true, timing is everything and once Zenyatta got her “timing” together, WATCH OUT! I will always think of Zenyatta “winning” the 2010 BC Classic, because NO horse could have done what she did in the home stretch. In my own, private Zenyatta world, she is 20-0!!
Thank you Dottie – the Zenyatta posts are so fantastic!

Zenyatta,
You have such a wonderful, positive way of dealing with difficult things in life. I’m so glad that you are doing well and hope that all the love that is coming your way from so many people will lift your spirits the way that you have always lifted ours. I’m sending lots of love and healing thouthts to you.

We love you sweet girl, big day tomorrow! Happy happy happy birthday to you!!!

As far as I’m concerned, you far exceeded anyone’s expectations 20 times! Your training and prior races are what gave you the ability to even consider you could overcome impossible odds and turn in a performance for the ages in number 20! Everyone who saw that race thought you were staring disaster in the face and there was no way you could get back in it, much less have a chance — no one except Mikey and you, that is. No other horse in that race that fateful night at Churchill Downs on Nov. 6 could have come close to doing what you did, absolutely no other. Giving the field 20+ lengths, the absolute worst track in 20 years at Churchill Downs (according to CD insiders), so many bad trip issues which you overcame. The only one you could not overcome was QR stopping in front of you. Yet, you charged back, beating every other horse in the field and made the BCC10 a race for all time! As was said of Seattle Slew when he ran down Exceller in the 1978 JCGC and narrowly lost: Exceller may have won the race, but Slew won the debate. Blame may have won the race (barely), but you won the debate, dear Queen Z! And you more than showed your class and ability to the world that night. I think our hearts broke because we were afraid the narrow loss would cost you the HOTY, no matter all your other accomplishments. Your performance in defeat, I think, is what overcame all the east coast bias to finally get the award you should have had the prior 2 years. I’m so grateful to have been around for even a small part of your story, and even to have gone through the heartache of the 2 1/2 months of campaigning for you for HOTY. I would not want to do that again…I shed so many tears during that time. I kept thinking if it was that bad for me, what must it have been like for your family…the picture of Ann and Jerry at the Eclipse Awards certainly told the story! Life was good again. We could all relax and bask in the warm glow of knowing following the mention of your name forever would be the words, “Zenyatta, 2010 Horse of the Year!”
Big hugs! Your friend, Ann Maree

Z,
I was heartbroken to hear the news. But I look at it that things happen for a reason. You do have your own pace and your body should be no different. We will never know, but if this had to happen, early is better. Less risk to you our Noble Queen Z.
Suzanne
As always, you take things in stride Zenny. And everyone knows you have a remarkable stride! Yes, things happen for a reason and we don’t always know those reasons. Your attitude is part of what makes you so spectacular. I am praying that you stay healthy and happy. All horses should be as blessed and as loved as you are. Thanks to Dottie for an excellent job as always.

Zenyatta lovely one: Do you know, I used to think that you had unique white markings inside your ears?
The photo of you–long forelock swept to one side, eyes bright with intelligence and something else, too. Mike Smith in an interview said that you are very “feminine.” I agree. He even said with a slightly embarrassed smile “She’s sexy.”
No need to blush.
As you say, you do things at your own pace–you are a “deep closer” a description I find infinitely mysterious. Not only that, you usually go far to the outside, as if you weren’t even part of the melee of the race. Just running, and happening to win 19 races.
Anna
Happy Birthday tomorrow, Zenny! I hope you get my card in time.
Barb France
Happy Birthday, Zenny!! You are so loved…blessings to you!!!
@Barbara Wood-hope your recovery is doing well.
