Good Morning,
Dottie and John thought this would be fun to share with you. Here are Giacomo’s Jockey Club papers. The reason these are REALLY SPECIAL is the 2nd line on the back of his papers have the following information recorded in his OFFICIAL RECORD:
Date Won: 5/7/05
Net Value to Winner: 1,639,600
Type of Race: STAKE
Distance: 1 1/4
Name of Stake or Handicap: “THE KENTUCKY DERBY” Grade 1
Name of Track: Churchill Downs
Racing Secretary or By: Doug Bredar
Now this is truly TOO CUTE! The Kentucky Derby…WOW!
On the front, you see several markings and notes added to his papers. In the comments and responses, many of you have asked what these things mean. Basically, they pertain to health requirements being noted when a horse travels to various states. Giacomo ran in California, Kentucky, Maryland and NY. The NYRA (New York Racing Association) put their tag / stamp at the top of the papers. California usually places theirs by the marking details. Different states have different procedures and requirements and in our sport all of these details must be met at all times. It is what is best for ALL!
Since it is that time of year, and Derby Fever is in the air, MY TEAM thought this would be FUN for you to see. Not many papers have this information recorded on them! YEAH, GIACOMO!
Have a special day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Thanks, Lizzy for the link to the Giacomo video. Did anybody think the groom might have been – Mario? I just caught the tiniest glimpse of him, but there’s definitely a resemblance…
Beautiful Zenny, I’m so sorry to hear about your baby. I was told my whole youth I would never have a baby, and when I confounded everyone and got pregnant, they said the two of us would never make it. Well, we did, and she’s a fine healthy lady, old enough she wouldn’t want her age mentioned. If I can do it, you can too, magnificent sweetie. Hooves crossed!

Hi Folks: Speaking of the Derby trail, the Florida Derby is this Sunday, April 3rd. It is a main race. A grade 1.

I think Uncle Mo will be running in the Fla. Derby.

lizzy: It`s almost funny that so much detritus got through here yesterday and YOUR note`s awaiting moderation??? .. . Almost. But not quite.

Oh Zenyatta, I hate you are going through this. Mare’s absorb all the time…I know that is no consolation but, you will go back to Bernie again, and all will be well. I have Faith and trust in Team Z East. When I was breeding TB’s that would happen to at least one of my girls. But I would breed her back and all was well. I realize it is still hard and disappointing. You will be in my prayers Zenyatta as always. You get to see Bernie again, so it may not be so bad.Dottie can help you a lot. Thanks to Team Z West for keeping us up to date. Love you Zenyatta! Secsea Dance, Salawgi, Simon, and our rescue, Picasso.

Oh, too bad. Thanks for letting me know. I am looking at a list of the Kentucky Derby preps. I do not see the Woodward listed. Do you know the date of that race? I was hoping to see him run.
Linda in NJ
@Signofthetimes: I see the Wood Memorial listed. Is that the race you are referring to? Thanks.

I also remember that derby so well ! Not long ago on HRTV I saw a piece on Giacomo and they were saying what a kind horse we was with people. I remember thinking that much of that comes from bring raised with wonderful, caring humans. Another tribute to your John, Dottie, Jerry, Anne and team.

@Kathryn Cogswell:

I know?!?! Strange. :/ And my post never made it on. Maybe it’s because one the trolls said “he respected me.” Now, that was creepy. How could that be? I simply talk “Z” along with hundred of others on here.
*sigh*

Did anyone else catch it…the link I put up of Giacomo’s Derby race. It looks like Mario with him!!!

Jane we have a connection. While pregnant with my firstborn, we too almost didn’t make it …was written up in a medical journal. He truly was my miracle baby. :)

Ah cool (: Please let us know if you’re being bred again to Bernardini and when!!! I know it’s just killing all of us not knowing what’s going to happen next.

I remember thinking, “Giacamo, what a funny name for a horse. And who is this trainer?” Now look what John Sherriffs has done.

Dearest Zenyatta. How great to see Giacomo’s Jockey Club papers. Being the winner of the Kentucky Derby, he certainly has marked his place in thoroughbred history. There are not many that can say that. What an amazing accomplishment. How wonderful that our great Team Z were not only blessed with the experience of life with you Zenny, but also lived the dream of winning the Derby as Team G. It is no surprise that they have shared two such remarkable stories with you and Giacomo. Their outstanding love and care is just reflected back to them. I too have been to Adena Springs on several occasions and have always spent some time with Giacomo. He is one handsome and charming stallion. Everyone at Adena is so kind and welcoming and the farm itself is absolutely beautiful, a must see. I already have Derby fever. I have been following the hopefuls on sites such as the Bloodhorse and the various prep races. Can’t wait. I am so glad that you and Team Z are all doing well and looking forward to another try. Hooves crossed again. Dottie, thank you so much for all that you give us! Enjoy your lovely Kentucky springtime days. Sweet dreams. Kisses and hugs. XXXOOO
@Sue Noel – You story was wonderful! What fantastic memories of time with your father and the horses you loved. You certainly were a very lucky little girl.
@DJ – Your “hugs” link was perfect. The more I watched, the more I smiled through the tears. Obviously it was a release I needed. Some things just seem to come at exactly the right moment.
@Shari Voltz – Hello, my friend. Hope everything is fantastic with you!! :)
Maria
I remember watching Giacamo when he won the derby. I just wish I had placed a bet on him. Queen Z, you’re birthday is coming soon! I miss you and I love you. Hug & kisses.

Here is something to make everyone laugh. Zenyatta and Uncle Mo have blazed a trail with their social networking, as we know, a lot of TB’s have a facebook page and a twitter account now. But hold on, apparently the zoo animals have gotten wind of this and feel left out. The escaped Cobra has started tweeting and in 3 days she got 160,000 followers! Zenny, see what you started! http://technorati.com/entertainment/article/missing-bronx-zoo-cobra-opens-twitter/

Here’s an interesting study about the presence of stallions making mares abort- http://news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth_news/newsid_9440000/9440222.stm

Yes in that segment on Giacomo I thought maybe that was Mario walking him. Do you know Zeny if it was, can you ask Dottie.
Its a great day I know and Our Birthday Girl is getting ready for her bit day. I bet you get to have carrot cake. We all love you Zeny

I watched Giacomo win with Mike Smith. He said, if I can’t win the derby on Holy Bull, Giacomo’s dad, I’m surly going to win it on his son. Talk to you tomorrow, Z.

@LindaJ and Signofthetimes, it’s not the Woodward, it’s the Wood Memorial. Confusing, I know. The G1 Wood Memorial will be run on April 4 at Aqueduct.

Ooops, that’s April 9 for the Wood, not April 4. I misread my hen-scratches.
