Good Morning,
Dottie and John thought this would be fun to share with you. Here are Giacomo’s Jockey Club papers. The reason these are REALLY SPECIAL is the 2nd line on the back of his papers have the following information recorded in his OFFICIAL RECORD:
Date Won: 5/7/05
Net Value to Winner: 1,639,600
Type of Race: STAKE
Distance: 1 1/4
Name of Stake or Handicap: “THE KENTUCKY DERBY” Grade 1
Name of Track: Churchill Downs
Racing Secretary or By: Doug Bredar
Now this is truly TOO CUTE! The Kentucky Derby…WOW!
On the front, you see several markings and notes added to his papers. In the comments and responses, many of you have asked what these things mean. Basically, they pertain to health requirements being noted when a horse travels to various states. Giacomo ran in California, Kentucky, Maryland and NY. The NYRA (New York Racing Association) put their tag / stamp at the top of the papers. California usually places theirs by the marking details. Different states have different procedures and requirements and in our sport all of these details must be met at all times. It is what is best for ALL!
Since it is that time of year, and Derby Fever is in the air, MY TEAM thought this would be FUN for you to see. Not many papers have this information recorded on them! YEAH, GIACOMO!
Have a special day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

My Sweet Lady Zenyatta & Dottie, Great info on a Great horse. I just watched Giacomo’s win again. I love seeing that come from behind win. I have to tell you again I love your posts. It is so wonderful at the end of the day to have a special site for all Zenyatta Fan Family to gather and catch up on what she’s doing and to have great racing history.
@Abigail from Montreal. Thanks for the info on The Vault. I signed up. Zenyatta has got me into racing history. It is so cool to see where the horses of today came from.
@Lizzy. Thanks for the video listing of Giacomo. What a thrill to watch him race again! I watch Zenyatta’s races all the time.
@ Pat Beck. Thanks for the year of the race of the Derby I ask about.
@ Astrid. Thanks for reminding us of Secretariat’s B.D. He & Zenyatta will always be linked together for his 1st Award given to her.
Goodnight Zenyatta. Rest up for your Birhday Party. I want to see photo’s of you & your gal pals at your party! Sendig Hugs & Kisses With Love From Alabama, Amanda G.

Thanks so much for sharing the info. on Giacamo. He is so special, just like you. It seems you have similar personalities and I think a lot of that is attributed to the way John Shirreffs handled you…with respect and LOVE. Just a thought. If all of Z’s FB fans sent $1.00 to Dottie for the Moss’, Old Friends would have almost $73,000.00 dollars to buy the farm they need to continue to care for retired racehorses. Can we all ban together to do this in honor of Zenyatta for her birthday? Please give me your thoughts.

Cannot forget the wonderful Cigar either,,,Still at the Horse Park in Lexington. Got to pet him and was so thrilled to touch the back of a champion!

I played him that day! He paid $100 dollars I think…I do know …the place went silent after he won the race. You could hear a pin drop at the Saratoga Raceway. Except for me screaming…I WON! You find out quick that no one likes a winner when they…are not one! ha…
There is a package in the mail…for a pretty young girl. It is a big package too. Some cute little Kindergarten children worked very hard on this project. Hope you enjoy it Zenyatta. Some eats included as well. Can’t open until your birthday! Hopefully it will put a smile on your face.

Abigail-thank you for the link-most enjoyable.
Deana-wonderful idea. Most people can scrounge up a $ to send.
Hope all are well!

So Zenyatta, What do you hear around the farm as a Derby favorite?

Dear Queen-Z & Team-Z,
I was a big fan of Giacomo and Mike Smith in 2005. It was so exciting to have a Kentucky Derby winner return to Hollywood Park, and several weeks later, I met Dottie at my first DIVA DAY event. Dottie was so interesting, telling us about Giacomo’s life at Barn55, and about John S., Jerry and Ann Moss. Just that small CONNECTION made horseracing so much more interesting to me. Now, to have this website, and to get to reconnect with Giacomo, thru Zenny, is really special. Thanks to all of Team-Z/G!!
Great memories. Hugs to you all. Fondly, OraJean

Zenny and Dottie…thanks for the great post today about Giacomo. He made his Derby so exciting, being almost 50-1.
We’ll keep our fingers crossed about your visit to Bernardini next week. Enjoy some Guiness and bananas this week! Love you Queen Z.

I hope there is a way to delete the disgusting and naysayers of our queen Zenyatta. We all love you so much and we all must find a way to ignore the negative and bask in the positive —all positive is our Zenny. We love you and will always be in your corner. Good thing you (really) can’t read. Love and XXXOOO George and Phyllis

Dear Zenyatta, So sorry to hear of the loss of the foal, but as so many have said, it will happen, all in the Lord’s good time. Glad to hear you are healthy and ready to try again.
Thanks so much for the information on Giacomo! I have always loved gray horses, so of course my money was on him that day. What a great Ky. Derby race. For those asking about him now, I was fortunate enough to visit Adena Springs last summer, and meet Giacomo, Einstein, Awesome Again and Ghostzapper !!
The people at Adena Springs are great, they spent time with my friend and I, we were the only two there to visit that day, and treated us like old friends. The farm is out in Paris, KY, about 15 miles north-east of Lexington, by way of Paris Pike, and a must visit if you want to see a fabulous thoroughbred farm. Just call to make an appointment, and they will be happy to show you their wonderful stallions.
Sweet dreams, Zenny, and many thanks to Dottie.

Too Cute Zenny, Thanks John, Dottie and the Moss’s for sharing this with us. You all Rock!!! Love

I loved Giacamo! What a great memory of 2005 Derby. My nephew called me at home (he was at the Derby, I said put $2.00 on Closing Argument across the board. He did. Then he called me back and asked what else. I said, I know a very nice District Attorney named “Giacomo” (leaving out last name), so please $2.00 to win on Giacomo! and $2.00 across the board on Afleet Alex. He called me back and said I missed the close off time for betting but he did have my ticket on Closing Argument. So I actually picked the 3 as it was 1st Giacomo, place Closing Argument & show Afleet Alex. It was so very exciting to watch on television and my nephew didn’t win at all but I did because Closing Argument was 70-1 odds or something close to that. A great memory and I vowed to see a Derby and I did when Barbaro won. I have followed Giacomo/Tiago and their wonderful owners, trainers, jockeys, all who make Team Z and before that, Team G. How amazing that he is now almost all white. He was and still is a handsome horse. Happy Birthday Z!!!! Have a fun day on Friday.

Zenny, you are still the greatest Race Horse ever born as far as I’m concerned. You are the only Thoroughbred I’ve ever fallen in love with. You are very special.

Thank you for sharing the photo of Giacomo’s papers. I wish I could figure out how to get my computer to enlarge the photos so I could see them more clearly, but I’m not able to do that yet. I followed one of the links to see Giacomo’s Derby again and I had forgotten how dark grey he was then. He is so much whiter now – still a beautiful guy. Thank you for sharing this diary entry with us, Zenyatta and Dottie. It is the best place to be!

To: deana dameron, regarding the gift — that & a bit more — for ‘Old Friends’ [a great idea & hope it, plus the 70,000++ is so much it encourages them to purchases this perfect facility].

Hi Zenny: Thank you John and Dottie for sharing Giacomo’s Kentucky Derby papers. How cool is that!!! Not too many horses get to run in the Kentucky Derby let alone win. It was so much fun reading these posts from fans remembering that day. What fun that must have been. I was at the 135 Kentucky Derby. That year “Mine that Bird” won. It was a real upset. Very similar to Giacomo’s win — what a race it was!! Zenny , care to tell us your favorite Kentucky Derby horse in this year’s “Run for the Roses!” Take care, Zenny. Love, Linda

@deana dameron: I have been thinking about Zenny’s birthday all week. I called Lanes End to see if I could send a fruit basket. Then just tonight, I got the idea of sending a donation to “Old Friends Farm” in celebration of Zenyatta’s Birthday. The vibes are out!! This is such a great idea!

Hi sweetheart your so dear to me, I felt so bad when I heard the news, but that’s okay, it will happen and you will have a beautifull foal. You are the great one I just talk about you to all my family. I have purchased so many of you fun items.
I love to watch your races, I have the first 10 races, I wish John and Dottie could have the others, I would love to have them, I believe so many others would too. I tried to visit you when I went to Virginia, my daughter and I were going to drive to Lexington but Lanes End said they were closed to visitors until June. I was so dissappointed, had I know the would have waited to June to visit my daughter. I love you, your the greatest.

Giacamo was a Cinderfella. A real surprise winner and that always makes me happy to see the underdog, so to speak, win. Nice to have that Derby win for all of you.
Pam Zacek
Thank you again for the great infromation, for me you learn somethng, new every day with these diarys, seeing a horse run, in all those states, never think of how they can do that, so interesting, with each stamp, for each state, really neat< Hope you had a great day Zen romping, in the fields, and thank Dottie for the good information have a great Friday, Queen Z,
Doretta
I also remember when he won, hadn’t pick him that day, but I did for Breeders Cup,saw Giacomo one morning training at Churchill and again in the paddock just before the Classic, his ears were straight up and you could read his face. It said I won the Kentucky Derby. Truly one of the most impressive horses I have seen.
