Good Morning,
Dottie and John thought this would be fun to share with you. Here are Giacomo’s Jockey Club papers. The reason these are REALLY SPECIAL is the 2nd line on the back of his papers have the following information recorded in his OFFICIAL RECORD:
Date Won: 5/7/05
Net Value to Winner: 1,639,600
Type of Race: STAKE
Distance: 1 1/4
Name of Stake or Handicap: “THE KENTUCKY DERBY” Grade 1
Name of Track: Churchill Downs
Racing Secretary or By: Doug Bredar
Now this is truly TOO CUTE! The Kentucky Derby…WOW!
On the front, you see several markings and notes added to his papers. In the comments and responses, many of you have asked what these things mean. Basically, they pertain to health requirements being noted when a horse travels to various states. Giacomo ran in California, Kentucky, Maryland and NY. The NYRA (New York Racing Association) put their tag / stamp at the top of the papers. California usually places theirs by the marking details. Different states have different procedures and requirements and in our sport all of these details must be met at all times. It is what is best for ALL!
Since it is that time of year, and Derby Fever is in the air, MY TEAM thought this would be FUN for you to see. Not many papers have this information recorded on them! YEAH, GIACOMO!
Have a special day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Dear Zen and fans and team Z.I really enjoy reading about the memories and sharing info about horses and racing.Your website makes my day.My Dad introduced me to racing and I have always been horse crazy!Dad and I would go often to Delaware Park’s backside in the early morning and watch them train and visit the barns. Some mornings I even got to ride some of the pony horses. To those of you who don’t know what the pony horses are(Zen can tell you) they are not really ponys, they are horses, often ex racehorses that lead the racehorses onto the track to train and also they are the horses that lead them onto the track at post time. Also, another possible Derby horse by Bernardini is TO HONOR AND SERVE,he is on the top 10.My favorite is Uncle Mo and Mucho Macho Man.Uncle Mo is by Indian Charlie. He is one of my big horses, who also has Anthony’s Cross in the top ten.Thank you so much Dottie for this site.Being a retired groom I could talk horses all day,I had to retire because of Reumatoid Athritis.Zen you are what pulled me thru this time in my life and I am so grateful and thankful that God gave us you!!I couldn’t fit all my feelings in one paragraph on the postcards so I just had to express them.LOL to all on this site!!
Astrid
I love all these personal Giacomo-stories! Thanks to all for sharing!! Dottie sure knows how to brighten our day once again…

Oh yeah Lady Z, sorry to say but I was on the Afleet Alex bandwagon for sentimental reasons (Alex’s Lemonade), you know. But after the derby, I was most definitely cheering for Giacomo!!! :) :)
For those who wanted to no where he is, he’s at Adena Springs, just a stone throw down the road from Z, and Mr. Moss still comes down to visit him and brings him peppermints. :) He says, ‘he doesn’t know if Giacomo remembers him or is he just the nice man with the peppermints.’ teee heee
I’d like to think that he does remember who he is! ;) He’s turned an elegant white in his old age, :) but he’s still a kid a heart. John visits him whenever he’s in Kentucky. But yes we still love us some Giacomo! :) :) :)
Hugs and Kisses,
Valeria

HAVE A HAPPY BIRTHDAY APRIL 1 …..QUEEN Z

Well I picked Super Saver last year and he won and I actually bet on Barbaro and he won. This year Uncle Mo is certainly getting lots of attention. I’ll probably decide closer to the end of April after all the preps are done. That is such a tough race because so many things can go wrong–or right.

Love Giacomo, always my favorite and just like their dad I love Lady Giacomo and Blushing Sis. Maybe we’ll see a “Z” and Giacomo baby some day!!!!
Sorry to hear about your pregnancy but it is still early, time for more breeding.

Abagail’s blog on Geniune Risk is well worth the read what a great throughbred she was. I remember Gallant Man’s loss to Iron Liege what a heart breaker that was and what great throughbreds shared in that race
Coach
Thank you for sharing! I find this all so interesting and fun:) After a long day at school, I looked forward to reading the post!

I remember Giacamo very very well because
two of my friends plus myself all picked
him to win the derby and so he did!
We had a hot $$$$ return on our bets.
Thank you Dottie and Team Z for everything you have done with these dairies I cannot get enough of them. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY QUEEN.

Hi Zenyatta. Wow, I loved Giacomo and remember that day well. Mike was so excited – it brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing – just loved it. I remember going to Belmont to see him run – I have his t-shirt and can remember screeming for him. Just love him and his offsprings – especially Lady Giacomo. We have retired to Texas now and saw her first at Lone Star Park where she was undefeated. He will be a great sire. Love you Zenyatta. Pretty soon it will be your birthday – peppermint cake, pears and bananas too I am sure for you and your BBFs. You have the best time dreaming horsey dreams, eating well, and romping in your paddock with your friends. Love you Angel in Disguise. Also, we just received our bronze statute today – it is so majestic – just like you, magical and magnificent and an Angel in Disguise. Love you so.

I would hope that those few who choose to demean the Queen’s site can be denied access to the site.
Iron Sheik, American Patriot, someone posing as jess jackson and SCUDSMOTHER add nothing to the site except negativity and obscenity. We certainly need not be subjected to such filth and anger.

Watching the Kentucky Derby is a ritual for me! No matter where I am, have to be by a TV. Hugs to you Zenyatta, it will be your Bday tomorrow!!

I REMEMBER GIACOMO, NEVER WILL FORGET IT, BESIDES THE SURPRISE WIN, IT WAS JUS A YEAR LATER THAT I WAS THERE AND SAW BARBARO WIN. I PICKED HIM OUT THAT FEBRUARY. TALK ABOUT BEING PART OF HISTORY. I ALSO SAW ENGLISH CHANNEL.IT WAS BEFORE THE CROWDS ARRIVED, AND I WAS AT THE RAIL, AT THE TURN FOR HOME, AND LOOKED ENGLISH CHANNEL RIGHT IN THE FACE. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BOY. LAST YEAR I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE QUEEN Z, AND THE FUTURE KENTUCKY DERBY WINNER. IT IS SO SPECIAL TO SEE THESE HORSES IN OERSON. YOU NEVER FORGET THOSES MOMENTS. THANK YOU ZENYATTA FOR THE MOMENT FOR THE MOMENT WE SHARED. IT WILL BE PART OF ME THE REST OF MY LIFE. SWEET 16

Hey Coach take a hike, you are totally disgusting. I’m sure there is a porn site or hate site that would appreciate your comments but not here. there are kids on this board. What a disgusting mentality, you have to work at being that repulsive.
Love ya Z ignore the bufoon and maybe he’ll crawl back in his hole.
Victoria
my heart is warmed to see you’ve “gotten back on the horse” as it were after the difficulty of breaking the news to us. what a wonderful outpouring of thoughts, and caring. thanks for tsharing today’s fun visual info.
