Good Morning,
Dottie and John thought this would be fun to share with you. Here are Giacomo’s Jockey Club papers. The reason these are REALLY SPECIAL is the 2nd line on the back of his papers have the following information recorded in his OFFICIAL RECORD:
Date Won: 5/7/05
Net Value to Winner: 1,639,600
Type of Race: STAKE
Distance: 1 1/4
Name of Stake or Handicap: “THE KENTUCKY DERBY” Grade 1
Name of Track: Churchill Downs
Racing Secretary or By: Doug Bredar
Now this is truly TOO CUTE! The Kentucky Derby…WOW!
On the front, you see several markings and notes added to his papers. In the comments and responses, many of you have asked what these things mean. Basically, they pertain to health requirements being noted when a horse travels to various states. Giacomo ran in California, Kentucky, Maryland and NY. The NYRA (New York Racing Association) put their tag / stamp at the top of the papers. California usually places theirs by the marking details. Different states have different procedures and requirements and in our sport all of these details must be met at all times. It is what is best for ALL!
Since it is that time of year, and Derby Fever is in the air, MY TEAM thought this would be FUN for you to see. Not many papers have this information recorded on them! YEAH, GIACOMO!
Have a special day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Giacomo was special in how he redeemed the great racing lengend holy bulls derby loss. i feel personally Zenyatta should have been sent to GIACOMO,S old sire. they are total athletic opposites, and that grey bull would have shot a bullseye instead of a blank..

Loved Giacamo! Love to you beautiful brave one!

Only just read yesterdays post. So sorry to hear that. But it was nice to read everyone’s heart felt comments and I’m sure they are right, when the time is right it will happen. Does this mean you will have another date with Bernie?
If anyone was thinking of sending Z something for a birthday gift, a donation to one of her fav. charities would be very thoughtful, since she loves to help others too. Or, in light of yesterdays news, perhaps a donation to a local child charity would be nice. There was a diary entry way back listing her fav. charities. I’ll see if I can find it.

And don’t forget!!! Mikey was on him too!

every year, when i was a little girl, my dad would help me enter a contest thru a cigar company to win a racehorse by entering the best name. well, needless to say, i never won (in fact, i wonder if he even mailed the entries!) but it was so exciting to just IMAGINE winning! now, i feel like we have had the chance to be part of this world, thanks to team z! thank you- it was worth waiting 50 years!

I remember that Derby like it was yesterday. The look on the “experts” face was priceless. Mr. Shirreffs beaming face. It was my first introduction to your “Dear John” He was so likeable I honestly knew I would support him in future races. Little did I know I would fall so in love with a beautiful bay girl with the name Zenyatta, his wonderful wife…and your partner in this diary Dottie~ when I had the chance to speak to her (Dottie) I was not capable of speech at the fence the day after the Breeder’s Cup Classic.I was so overwhelmed to be in your presence ~Jerry & Ann Moss~ Mario~Carmen~ Steve~ Junior~Cheves~ Frank Leal, the one who made my dream come true when he moved you so I could touch you.~ I love each and every one of you with all my heart.~
Zenyatta- thank you for sharing all your wonderful prized treasures with us…and Dottie,Thank you…such class and grace~ I am sending you all my prayers, love, hugs, kisses and best of luck wishes…always~

I’m pretty devastated. While I hate Jews and Arabs equally, there’s only so much room in the boat.

Love all the information and we needed a positive post. Just got spring vaccinations on my 11 completed on a stormy, rainy morning. Hope the weather is better in KY but pastures need the rain. Looking forward to the derby – any inside info? I know how the girls gossip!! Hope we’ll still get all the info surrounding you – you mean so much to so many! Thanks Dottie and all for sharing.

I remember when Giacomo won the Derby! What a cutie. No one knew how to pronounce his name correctly. He will always be part of history for being a Kentucky Derby winner. I’d love to know how he’s doing these days… thanks for sharing, Zenyatta!

THAT REMARK HAS NO PLACE ON ANY FORUM.

Very special papers for sure! I watched his Derby win on TV! I gave up cheering for my ‘favourite’ and started yelling for him LOL I see there are a few lucky (or very smart ones:) here who bet on him. What fun! Kind of like Mine That Bird, another favourite of mine:)
Here is a neat video of him. He is gorgeous and such a great personality too!

Re. my first reply today: here is a previous post re. Zenny’s charity work and charities she likes. It’s not the one I was thinking of, but I don’t have time to look further. Another horse charity is TROTT. https://staging.zenyatta.com/news/diary-post-70

That is very special given that John was Giacomo’s trainer, yeh! Yes, Derby fever is in the air, but let us not forget the one who came before, Charismatic, Seattle Slew, and so many others. You, Zenyatta, are right in the heart of the racing world. You have a wonderful day!

Dearest Zenyatta,
Loved seeing Giacomo’s papers–what a horse! Once the new year rolled around I started having Derby fever and am anxiously waiting to see who will fill the twenty slots. I’m sure you already have your own ideas about how this race will unfold–after all, you’re the expert, Queen! :)
Happy Wedneday, dear one!
Much love,
Stel

Thank you for sharing
his information with us.

Can you please let us know if you will breed back this season? There seems like there is still time. Thanks.

Z…. be sure and tell your Administrative Assistant, Dottie that she does a top notch job and knows exactly the things your fans will enjoy. We will all be getting the Derby fever soon…..I wonder if you watched on a TV if you would recognize all the excitement and start dancing. Hugs to you Z….

It’s like a passport for a race horse. TOO CUTE! Love Giacomo!

JOHN! Way to go with Giacomo! I was watching the Kentucky Derby and was so excited for him to win. I knew you trained him, and saw Jerry and Ann owned him. I did not even know about Zenyatta yet. Thank you for sharing the papers and more explanation. Hugs and Prayers to Zenyatta’s family and team

I remember Giacomo so well. I still have his picture on the refrigerator.
Charlotte
Thank you for this interesting information about Giacomo. We saw him at Santa Anita the year he won the Derby. He is beautiful. Oh and coach, there is no place for you on this forum. GO AWAY.

Hi Zenny, Dottie & Team Z.
It was very neat seeing Giacomo’s papers. I too remember when he won and the terrific article on him, the Mosses & Team G in the Blood-Horse is still in my keeping.
We wanted to let everyone know that THE VAULT is also getting the Derby Fever with the second in its Derby series posted today about the great Genuine Risk! (The first in the series was about Canada’s little hero, Northern Dancer.) We’ve also raised over $80.00 this month for horse rescues just by clicking!!!! The goal is to make $100.00 by the end of March.
Here’s the address if you’d like to join in the fun: http://racingvault.blogspot.com/2011/03/kentucky-derby-1980-remembering-genuine.html
