Good Morning,
All of you are SO SWEET! Thank you so much for the warm wishes on my 28 Day Scan Results. I’m doing great and TRULY APPRECIATE all of your kind comments. The next big date is the 42 day scan. As Dottie has mentioned earlier, it is a very important one. After this, if all is A-OK, the pregnancy is considered to be ‘pretty secure’ and well on its way. HOOVES CROSSED, for sure!
This morning, John sent this photo to ME! He wanted ME to know that my friends at BARN 55 are also sending their regards. Here’s ZARDANA sending her greetings to ME! I’d know that TREE anywhere. I’ve stood there for zillions of hours over the last 4 years. It is great to see her again and to keep in touch with my dear friends at the barn.
The postcards are starting to arrive for the contest. I think the postal service in Arcadia really LOVES ME! They have been fabulous about everything. When Dottie was there the other day, a man in line was wearing a Zenyatta Hat. He told her he’d had offers from people wanting to BUY it from him. This is TOO CUTE!
I’m hearing you are all very thoughtful and additionally rather clever in your responses on the postcards. I’m also delighted that you like the idea of BRONZE #19 for the winner! I really thought that particular number would be incredibly significant! Thank you for feeling the same way!
Several have asked for the rules of the contest again. They are in Diary #205 in detail. If you click on the top part of the web-site that says NEWS, it will take you to a list of the prior posts. Just in case you need the information again, the mailing address is in Diary #209.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
Life Is Sweet’s foal…isn’t HE a DOLL! I’m so glad her owners let me introduce him to you yesterday. I’m hearing she is really having a wonderful time with him and he is a very active and friendly colt! It is so much fun to follow all of this activity at the farm. Plus, I’m learning so much. I gather that he will be totally with his MOM and nursing for approximately the next 4-6 months. She will teach him so many great things. He will even learn to ‘eat the grass and graze’ from her! I know Life Is Sweet will be great at this. I grazed next to her for countless afternoons at BARN 55. In addition to being a very accomplished athlete, she’s a ‘great grazer’.
Can you imagine ME teaching my foal to graze? Not to sound too bold, but I’m also really TERRIFIC at this and very experienced. My confidence is really high in relation to this aspect of becoming a MOM. I’ve got ‘teaching a little foal to graze’ down PAT. It will be a SLAM DUNK for ME! (Just had to say it…as we are in the midst of March Madness.)
Speaking of that, the games are moving right along. They are playing the SWEET SIXTEEN rounds now. My San Diego State gave it a good college try (no pun intended)…but lost last night. They did very well…just came up a few points short. Kentucky plays tonight. The winners of these games now will go forward to participate in the ELITE EIGHT Rounds. It is getting very exciting!
Tomorrow, there are some more 3 year old prep races for the Kentucky Derby and the Dubai Carnival of Racing takes place early in the morning our time! My Mikie is over there riding a couple horses from California. I’m sending him a BIG HIGH HOOF for GOOD LUCK!
Wow! This being a SPORTS FAN IS SO MUCH FUN!
Enjoy your day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(YEAH…I smell some bananas and pears coming MY WAY!)

Hi Zenny, Thanks so much for sharing the photo’s of Life Is Sweet and her beautiful Colt. I’m so glad that all went well for her with her delivery. It was so sweet of you to share her experience with us on your post and the pictures were great. Sending a big thanks to her owners for allowing this. Now the big contest is on with the post cards and I will be keeping my fingers crossed for myself. It is a fun thing for all. Have a happy Sunday dear Zenyatta and I love you.

Good Morning Queen Zenyatta,
Thanks for sharing the news about your friends. I love to see how moms in nature care for their children. What an example they are. Thought you would like an update on the eagle family in Va. They are very busy parents also

Thank you to Doreen for the link to the picture of Zardana with John Shirreffs. It is obvious that he has an incredible rapport with his horses. It is good to see such relationships between a trainer and his horses.

@ Marilynb Morgan – thank you for the link to Run For The Roses video. Beautiful !

Hi Z and crew! Happy Sunday to all. Hope you realze how very much we apprecate the pictures and updates, and my thanks to you. As far as visits in person, we all want to see the girls safe and healthy. I have visited farms in the past and never had mares included in the tour. These online “visits” mean so very much ! ! ! Hope everyone realizes how different the set up is for Rachael at Mr. Jacksons farm. Love to all

@Christine in VA– Thanks for linking again to the eagle cam. This is fascinating! I just read the commentators remarks about how to tell the mother eagle from the father eagle: “It is easier to see differences when they are both side by side; however, the female is larger than male, including larger feet, bigger beak (upper mandible is deeper & mouth goes back farther under eye). On this particular pair: male has a sleeker look (flatter head when feather’s aren’t ruffled), the female’s head appears rounder. When looking close, it almost looks like male has eyeliner on his eyes. I’m sure you see other differences that will help you decide who is who. The male this year has a small black feather on his head. From the back view I have noticed the male seems to cross his flight feathers more and the female’s are more to her sides. When on the nest, the female seems more relaxed and her wings tend to spread away from her body. The male is more alert and is picking at the nest more. His body seems to be more compact.” I have only seen the mother so far myself, but I keep checking back–just like I keep checking back to see if there are new posts here.

Speaking of the Kentucky Derby, it does look like Zardana is wearing her Derby hat.

@ Trina
Four years ago one of the year old eagles landed in out pine in the back yard. What a thrill that was. I only wish I had some horses near by I could watch. Those who have are so so lucky. Love ya Queen Zen .I keep learning about you and your breed.

Marilyn Morgan: Run for the Roses has been my favorite song for many years. Even though my foals weren’t race horses, they were show horses, I felt a special connection with all the dreams an owner has when they have a new foal in the barn.
There is nothing more beautiful than a mare and her new baby, the special bond they share is remarkable.
Zenny’s foal will have so many hopes, dreams and love shared by all of her(surrogate owners).

Dear Z Fans:
Just found an article in the Thoroughbred Times as I was searching to find out how Mucho Macho Man came out of the La. Derby yesterday. He was the favorite and ran third. It turns out he lost a show right out of the starting gate. He ran the whole race (l and 1/8 miles) with only three shoes. REMINDS ME OF SOMEONE ELSE WITH COURAGE AND HEART. His connections said in the article that he is alright. (Thank goodness.) He should still be in the Run for the Roses. Love to all of you. Judy and Russ

Dear Z Fans: Sorry about that. Mucho Macho Man lost a front SHOE.

Zenyatta, Bitter sweet that Zardana is under the tree, and you are so far away from there. The past was so great, but the future holds new great things for you.
Ah, the memories…..can’t help but wish to see you run again…..
Hugs and Prayers

Checking back in tonight to see if a new diary post had been written or to see if there was more news of Zardana’s retirement, but instead I’ve read so many comments of heart-warming and touching stories that you all have shared. Thank you all so much for sharing – many of the comments brought tears to my eyes and a smile to my heart. I had seen just a little blurb at the top of drf about Zardana’s retirement so thank you for the link to the article and the awesome photo of her with our honorable Mr. Shirreffs. On the PMU issue, years ago when my doctor prescribed it for me, I didn’t know what it was, had the prescription filled but when I read all the information that came with it and found out what it was, I never took it. I survived all the hot flashes and even though I do have severe osteoporois, I most likely would have gotten that anyway due to family history and other health problems. I certainly didn’t want to contribute to any of the suffering of horses by taking it, but I know that isn’t an option for everyone. Once again I am rambling, so I will say one more time – thank you.

@CHRISTINE IN VA.
Ever since you posted a link about the eagles and their eggs I have bookmarked the page so I can go and check in on them from time to time. I was so thrilled to see such. I sware, I know some humans male and female that need to watch this and they could learn a thing or two about parenting. It is just remarkable to see such great little parents loving their eggs way before they hatch ,and then being such great parents after they’ve hatched. If only some humans would give what knowledge God gave them and use it wisely instead of foolishly. I cried at the perseverance of such two parents and doing what nature gave them the ability to do as that of those beautiful eagles being what nature wanted them to be. just beautiful.

Thanks for the update on mucho macho man. Saw the
Race and heard about the shoe and the piece of hoof attached
It is amazing he did as
Well as he did with only three shoes. I know horses
That refuse to work without a shoe or limp around.

Is Zardana retired?

@Celeste-No your not rambling! I know conversations go off of topic at times and always come back around. To me, that is what is beautiful about this site, people on here feeling comfortable enough to share…I too mentioned menopause on here when someone posted there is no such thing as horse menopause. That is why I posted that I wish I were a horse. :/ I too am going through this lifecycle event. I’m on a bio-identical hormones (progesterone cream) too, but mainly for sleep issues and bone loss prevention (& even mood swings). What my doctor told me the problem with synthetic options out there, is how they were used. Dosages were way too high and a majority of women were never tested for many years while on them. She now has women that she’s treating that their levels are off the charts still after being off them now 3-5 years! What I would say to women trying to make the choice, is bio-identical is a very good option, but if its not for you, then at least take the following: Calicum, Vitamin D(many women are deficient), B12, Omega-3 and a probiotics.
.
Again sorry for going off topic here. :/
.
BTW the poster who gave the “puppy love” link, I’ve sent it to my friends and they LOVE it!!!
.
Sweet dreams beautiful lady. I feel your Mare Mama Power everyday. <3333
