Good Morning,
All of you are SO SWEET! Thank you so much for the warm wishes on my 28 Day Scan Results. I’m doing great and TRULY APPRECIATE all of your kind comments. The next big date is the 42 day scan. As Dottie has mentioned earlier, it is a very important one. After this, if all is A-OK, the pregnancy is considered to be ‘pretty secure’ and well on its way. HOOVES CROSSED, for sure!
This morning, John sent this photo to ME! He wanted ME to know that my friends at BARN 55 are also sending their regards. Here’s ZARDANA sending her greetings to ME! I’d know that TREE anywhere. I’ve stood there for zillions of hours over the last 4 years. It is great to see her again and to keep in touch with my dear friends at the barn.
The postcards are starting to arrive for the contest. I think the postal service in Arcadia really LOVES ME! They have been fabulous about everything. When Dottie was there the other day, a man in line was wearing a Zenyatta Hat. He told her he’d had offers from people wanting to BUY it from him. This is TOO CUTE!
I’m hearing you are all very thoughtful and additionally rather clever in your responses on the postcards. I’m also delighted that you like the idea of BRONZE #19 for the winner! I really thought that particular number would be incredibly significant! Thank you for feeling the same way!
Several have asked for the rules of the contest again. They are in Diary #205 in detail. If you click on the top part of the web-site that says NEWS, it will take you to a list of the prior posts. Just in case you need the information again, the mailing address is in Diary #209.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
Life Is Sweet’s foal…isn’t HE a DOLL! I’m so glad her owners let me introduce him to you yesterday. I’m hearing she is really having a wonderful time with him and he is a very active and friendly colt! It is so much fun to follow all of this activity at the farm. Plus, I’m learning so much. I gather that he will be totally with his MOM and nursing for approximately the next 4-6 months. She will teach him so many great things. He will even learn to ‘eat the grass and graze’ from her! I know Life Is Sweet will be great at this. I grazed next to her for countless afternoons at BARN 55. In addition to being a very accomplished athlete, she’s a ‘great grazer’.
Can you imagine ME teaching my foal to graze? Not to sound too bold, but I’m also really TERRIFIC at this and very experienced. My confidence is really high in relation to this aspect of becoming a MOM. I’ve got ‘teaching a little foal to graze’ down PAT. It will be a SLAM DUNK for ME! (Just had to say it…as we are in the midst of March Madness.)
Speaking of that, the games are moving right along. They are playing the SWEET SIXTEEN rounds now. My San Diego State gave it a good college try (no pun intended)…but lost last night. They did very well…just came up a few points short. Kentucky plays tonight. The winners of these games now will go forward to participate in the ELITE EIGHT Rounds. It is getting very exciting!
Tomorrow, there are some more 3 year old prep races for the Kentucky Derby and the Dubai Carnival of Racing takes place early in the morning our time! My Mikie is over there riding a couple horses from California. I’m sending him a BIG HIGH HOOF for GOOD LUCK!
Wow! This being a SPORTS FAN IS SO MUCH FUN!
Enjoy your day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(YEAH…I smell some bananas and pears coming MY WAY!)

@Astrid
Thanks for the link to RA day.
@LauraJ
Were you able to go to RA day?
It is very obvious that Stonestreet is a much
Smaller operation than Lanes End. Which is
Really nice as well!! As Z fans we have received
Much more over the last few months in the form of videos,
diary, photos and should realize these are two different
Types of farms. In addition, those of you had the opportunity
To visit Z every day in CA were very lucky. The reality
Of that being repeated are unlikely. Things change and we
Are sooo fortunate to have everything that we have received
From Team Z and Team LE. Thanks sooo much for
Everything. I don’t think some fans realize all the effort
That goes into one request from us.

Dearest Zenyatta,
How nice that your friend Zardana sent greetings to you from Barn 55. I hope it doesn’t make you too home sick when you think of all your pals back there.
I see that it’s turned cold again in Kentucky–stay warm, dear Z, and hopefully the spring weather will soon return for good.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Hugs and kisses,
Stel

And, Kitei: Wonderful to see RachelA sleek, serene and soft eyes, with no wrinkle-lines above them, seeming to enjoy some attention. Love her; thanks. Kc.

audreyc: With the telling of your experience discovering & learning from the Premarin Mama and foal, you have single-handedly healed about 50 layers of scar-tissue in this one reader, so often beside myself w/ anxiety over what these lovely creatures suffer over and over and over. More than a set of words can convey, thank you. Sigh! That story just makes Spring for me. Love, Khc.

Hi Zenny, You sure are a champion grazer!! Thanks for everyone who posted links. @ Catharine Uher, glad to see a post, I was getting worried.
Kim Curtsinger
Zenny-I went to see Rachel Alexandra yesterday. I sure wish you two could have met on the track. Two outstanding mares, the likes of which we won’t see for many, many years. Since Rachel had visitors, I sure wish Lanes End would let us come see you. I saw you at Keeneland, but it’s not the same as getting a kiss on a soft muzzle. Please put a “Bug” in someone’s ear about visiting you.
Sue
Hi Z, One question for you today. When are they making the movie? ZENYATTA
Robyn Mullhausen
Well, Zardana looks cute under that tree but nobody could looking more beautiful than you under that tree, especially the picture of you with the leaves sticking out of your mouth after you took a taste. :) Zenny, your adventure through motherhood is so exciting.
Joyce
Thanks, Zenny, for the picture of your good friend Zardana. Saw her win (on TV) impressively earlier this year (of course with a bet). I think the postcard entries are very exciting and wish all contestants the best of luck. To have you influence so many folks in so many wonderful ways is great to celebrate, and for one on those lucky ones to actually win a statue of you is as they say “unbelievable.” (As that word was so often said about your winning ways.) Happy dreams, big girl, and keep enjoying your new life and career.
Jan
Zenyatta,
Happy weekend to you and your gal pals. Beautiful pics of RA. She looks healthy and laid back. Mailed my post cards today. I wonder how many you got so far. What a wonderful race and win for Victoire Pisa and Japan. Stay happy and well big gorgeous mama.:)
LauraJ
@Signofthetimes, yes, I was there! I was at the 10:30 visit (same visit as Anne Eberhardt, but I’m not in any of her pictures, thank goodness!). It was a lovely time. Rachel is a sweetheart. She was very patient and tolerant of all the strangers petting and kissing her, and snapping her photo. She was all dolled up–bathed and brushed, mane pulled, and hooves polished. She is in fantastic shape still–beautiful shoulders. All the Stonestreet personnel were gracious, and I think they enjoyed the chance to show off their darling. We were able to see some of her trophies–Preakness, Haskell, and the two Eclipse awards. They had a display of pictures and fan mail, and also showed her races on a flat screen. Several people came from hundreds of miles away, but there were also locals. The visit was an excusable absence for several schoolkids that came.

I also peeked in on Hot Dixie Chick, Rachel’s BFF, in her stall. She was a bit puzzled as to why she was not in her paddock. She was curious and friendly. I was sorry I had no treat for her. All the other mares in the barn were out in paddocks for the day.
Janet Cutting
@Audreyc — Thank-you for sharing that touching story with all of us. I do have a question — is Life is Sweet at the same Farm as Zenny? If she is, why are they not barn mates? A big giant size thank-you and hug to Dottie and John for all the great pics and news they give us. I hope everyone at the Barn is doing well and I cant wait to see Mario visiting his Zenny.
Kathy Kimber
This is really a neat blog today. So very interesting. I’m so happy for Life is Sweet and her baby. You are going to be the best mom ever Zenyatta. I’m glad it is going so well. I love the picture of Zardana does that tree make you just a tad homesick? Ask Dottie how the ladies at the Zenyatta Lounge are doing. I’m just curious when is your sweet John’s birthday? Love you, back tomorrow
Valeria Cannon
Hi Lady Z, how’s everything this sunny weekend day? Congrats to ‘Mikie’ on coming in second on Euroears in the Dubai sprint, yay!!!!!!!! Zardana sure looks good standing underneath ‘your’ tree. ;) Hope the girls are doing well, you guys have a great weekend, okay!
Hugs to All,
Valeria

so glad our Mom to be is doing so well…you are so loved sweet one!
LauraJ
@Janet Cutting, Life is Sweet is at Lane’s End. They are not barn mates because Life is Sweet arrived at LEF last year. She was retired after experiencing problems with “tying up”–muscle cramps. She would have been put with other maiden mares last year. No doubt she is well bonded with them by now, as they have been together for a year. I presume that Life Is Sweet’s buddies have foaled or will soon. Eventually LiS and her colt will be out with other mares and foals. There’s nothing like seeing a pasture full of mares and foals!

Japan’s Victoire Pisa wins Dubai World Cup – two of the three horses represented by Japan finished 1st and 2nd which was first time the country has ever won this race. Many of the Japanese teams wore black polo shirts with the word “hope” on their armband and the dates of the earthquake/tsunami on their back. Horseracing is a beloved sport in Japan and so many fans either lost their lives or were devastated in some way by the horrific earthquake/tsunami. In such a time of suffering, they have found hope and heroes from their champion thoroughbred horses!

Thanks for sharing pictures of your buddies from Barn 55. They’re all great horses.
Take care Zenny. I am looking forward to your 42nd day scan.

Zenyatta my special girl I hope you had a great Saturday. I sure hope it was warmer in Kentucky than Ohio. Sweet dreams tonight. I love you. Hugs and many Kisses from Shari XXXOOO
@Kitei the video was amazing. It made me cry. It was if the horse and rider were one.
@Ann Maree I loved the video :)
@Astrid thank you for the story. I can’t imagine that anyone could treat a horse or any animal that way. It just gets me so upset. I guess I have never seen that kind of horse abuse. Thank God they had you. You are a true Hero.
@Dawn and Audrey thank you for sharing a special part of yourselves with all of us. The stories touched my soul. God Bless you both :)
Lisa
Good luck on ur 42 week scan. you should have your owners put up pictures of your sonograms up. (if its ok with you of course) i truely admire you and all other horses. my favorite horse at the barn i go to his name is Paddy. We recently got a new colt too. he was born on march 21. his owners are leading towards the name ray. because he has a stingray on his face!
good luck and best of wishes!
Lisa :)
Sue and Tony
Zenyatta…we put our post cards in the mail today. Bet you get several thousand of them by the time this wonderful contest ends. Thanks just doesn’t seem enough for everything LE and Team Z in CA do for us. We are so very lucky to have been given the chance to remain so close to our Queen. Lots of great basketball going on…men’s and women’s teams. Zenny, do you watch women’s college basketball, too? The gals can really play.
Shema
Z & Z, I am enjoying this adorable picture of Zardana so much! What a cutie!

Hi Zenny and Happy Weekend to Everyone:
@Signofthetimes: You are right. I couldn’t agree with you more. Zenny’s fans have had so much more access to Zenny. Team Z has gone out of their way to be so good to all of Zenny’s 70,000+ fans. The posting of all the videos, photos and above all, the challenge of keeping the daily news of Zenyatta and her barn friends fresh and interesting. We are so very lucky to have Dottie. Thank you Dottie and Team Z for all you have done and continue to do for us. I am sure when the time is right; there will be a “Z” Day at Lanes End. Until then, we will wait with loving patience.

Zenyatta-I may not always be able to wear a Zenyatta hat but I am wearing you in my heart.

@Laura J
Sounds like a wonderful experience. So glad
Stonestreet had the visit for her and for her fans. She dropped
Off the radar for a while. She is so talented and
Now has a full sibling. Thanks for sharing.

Dear Queen-Z & Team-Z,
Thanks for the cute pictures of Life Is Sweet and her 1st foal…an adorable colt!! Please, send my congratulations to Mr.& Mrs. Wygod. I was thinking she was owned by the Mosses, until I read your Diary Entry, today, and saw her racing silks on your FB page. Sorry, I get confused easily!! Anyway, I think it’s great that you and your best girl-friend, from Barn55, are both spending your breeding-days, at Lane’s End Farm.
Thanks, Dottie, for keeping us posted on all the “happenings”, and thanks, too, for the contest with such a great prize.
Hugs to you all. Fondly, OraJean

Hi Zenyatta. Wow, what a great day of racing all over the country and Dubai World Cup Day. It was awesome. We know you heard all about it from your friends as your best friend Mike was there. We love the pictures you post. Zardana looks gorgeous and looks like she is ready to do some serious grazing under “your” tree. We just watched the video of Rachel’s Fan Day – it was great and so well deserved. We wish she had more fanfare when she retired from racing. It will be wonderful to see you and Rachel deliver about the same time – the babies will be so blessed. Bananas and pears sound delicious and healthy. Love you, Angel in Disguise. Stay toasty, eat well, and have lotsa fun with your BBFs and keep those fabulous pics coming.

I am just learning about the horrors of the PMU mares and their foals from the posts here. I googled PMU mares and found this information: “Premarin is a drug made ..from the urine of pregnant mares … and is used to reduce the symptoms of menopause in women or women who have had a hysterectomy. It is also prescribed to nearly eliminate the risk of osteoporosis (the brittling of bones) and reduce the chance of heart disease in women over 50.”
Personally, I have never used hormone replacement therapy (I’m way beyond that stage now), and if I ever should need an anti-osteoporsis treatment, I would rather die than be part of this abuse of mares and their babies. It is good that we are being educated so we can spread the word, so thank you to Audrey and others for their posts.
@Robbie Pfeufer Kahn–It seems that PMU is not used for birth control.
