Good Morning Everyone,
This is such a fabulous, fabulous day! I am so excited for my dear friend, LIFE IS SWEET! She had a lovely bay COLT yesterday…March 23…by SMART STRIKE. Here she is with him when he is just several hours old. She is snuggling up and bonding with him in the stall. She will be a WONDERFUL MOTHER. Life is Sweet is such a loving horse. I know she will share all of her fabulous qualities with her new FOAL.
I’m experiencing so many new concepts in my life right now. I know my dear friend will be a wonderful MOTHERHOOD role model for ME! She is a first time MOM now like I will be next year. This makes it all so interesting!
Life is Sweet told me that foals normally stand up very soon after they are born. They may be a little wobbly at first when trying to stand up as it is all so new to them to use their legs after months of being inside the MOM. Once a bit more secure on their feet, the most important thing for them to do is nurse well. Under normal conditions and if all is going well, the baby will be up and moving around and nursing within an hour/hour and a half or so after birth. The first nursing experiences are so important as the milk contains colostrum which is essential for a newborn foal.
Life is Sweet is elated! Her baby is adorable and all has gone very well for both of them. I am so HAPPY and PROUD of her!
ALL IS ALSO GOING GREAT FOR ME! On my 28 day scan…all is A-OK. Everything looks fabulous! YIPPEE! The next scan will be at the 42 day stage of my pregnancy. It is a very important one. I’m feeling terrific, having fun, and so happy! Upon hearing all of this good news today, I think I’m going to celebrate! Treats of pears and bananas will make it all complete!
Have a great day!
With Love,
Hugs to all~(Especially to LIFE IS SWEET and her adorable Smart Strike colt!)

Dear Z,
You and Bernie will make an amazing foal … with two superstar parents that foal is destined to be a champion. Now i ahve a question and a request … first the question: Are you hoping for a Filly or a colt? I know that Colts are better racers until you came and prove them wrong! GIRL POWER! and my Request: I know you were breed on Feb 23rd … its close enough to my birthday and i wouldn’t mind sharing it with an amazing horse like you or your foal … it would be a great present to a fan .. so as long as the foal is ready (we dont want it to be ahrmed by coming too early) lets aim for Feb 10th, 2012 !!

On a Feb 23rd cover Zenyatta’s official due date would be Jan 30th.
But as has been noted, some mares go shorter, some a bit longer.

Congratulations Auntie-Z. Send my Love to Life Is Sweet and her beautiful boy. I love that cute little “eclipse” on his blaze. I have noticed that any othergood-fast-horses have similar markings, such as MINE THAT BIRD, your swift fren, RACHAEL ALEXANDRA, and several more. I always notice the marking and also the little ancient mark-of-swiftness, white on either hind foot.
Whether he grows to be a successful racehorse or not. I just pray that he will be loved and honored with a good long life, and a forever home.
Love you very much.

One of my favorite days of racing was watching Life is Sweet capture the Breeder’s Cup Ladies Classic followed right up with Zenyatta in the Classic! Couple of classy ladies!

Could we have a comment/explanation on why the horses (and foals) at this stable are always wearing halters. This is so dangerous.
Pam
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting those precious pictures of Life Is Sweet with her newborn foal. I have followed Life Is Sweet, just as I’ve followed you, Queen Z. You’ll be a very good mom; I can just tell.
L.S.
@Vicky,
LEF is a large commercial operation. They stand 17 stallions who are visited by up to 100 mares each. Many of those mares are boarded at LEF for various periods of time.
Simply put, the halters help with identification of the horses, especially the foals. Remember that gold circle on Zenyatta’s halter? It will be removed and put on the halter of her foal when he/she is born. That tag will help the farm keep track of the foal and ensure everybody is clearly and properly identified.

Congrats to Life is Sweet. What a handsome looking colt she had. Like you said next year Life is Sweet can show you the ropes of motherhood.
Really happy to hear the scan went well for you. Sounds like you are craving bananas and pears, that must be the horse verson of pickles and ice cream.
I have missed a couple of weeks of your site because my husband was in the hospital in Las Vegas and I had to go to Las Vegas from Fl-he is now out of the hospital and home here in Las Vegas, but faces a long recovery period.
I am going to try to get over to Santa Anita to see Barn 55 and your old home.
Love and nose kisses. Joyce.

Congrats to Life is Sweet. Her little boy is so cute and I love the 2nd pic of them.
That’s great about the scan too. Here’s to the next scan being great as well. When can they tell gender? I know it’s probably too soon, but was just curious.
Lauren
Vicky, everybody has an opinion, and I know many who feel a horse without a halter is doomed, I worked at belmont right next to barn 51? I believe (been a long long time) when it caught on fire, 20 something horses died because THEY COULD NOT GET THEIR HALTERS ON! The next day a rule was in effect that all horses MUST were a leather halter, why leather?, IT BREAKS….

Congrats to Life is Sweet and her connections! Her foal is adorable!! Thanks to Sarah for taking the pics and to you for sharing them with us.
Zenny, you are going to be a fabulous mother too! I’m very happy to hear that your 28 day scan is A-OK. That is exciting news!
Love to all,
Leslie
