Good Morning Everyone,
This is such a fabulous, fabulous day! I am so excited for my dear friend, LIFE IS SWEET! She had a lovely bay COLT yesterday…March 23…by SMART STRIKE. Here she is with him when he is just several hours old. She is snuggling up and bonding with him in the stall. She will be a WONDERFUL MOTHER. Life is Sweet is such a loving horse. I know she will share all of her fabulous qualities with her new FOAL.
I’m experiencing so many new concepts in my life right now. I know my dear friend will be a wonderful MOTHERHOOD role model for ME! She is a first time MOM now like I will be next year. This makes it all so interesting!
Life is Sweet told me that foals normally stand up very soon after they are born. They may be a little wobbly at first when trying to stand up as it is all so new to them to use their legs after months of being inside the MOM. Once a bit more secure on their feet, the most important thing for them to do is nurse well. Under normal conditions and if all is going well, the baby will be up and moving around and nursing within an hour/hour and a half or so after birth. The first nursing experiences are so important as the milk contains colostrum which is essential for a newborn foal.
Life is Sweet is elated! Her baby is adorable and all has gone very well for both of them. I am so HAPPY and PROUD of her!
ALL IS ALSO GOING GREAT FOR ME! On my 28 day scan…all is A-OK. Everything looks fabulous! YIPPEE! The next scan will be at the 42 day stage of my pregnancy. It is a very important one. I’m feeling terrific, having fun, and so happy! Upon hearing all of this good news today, I think I’m going to celebrate! Treats of pears and bananas will make it all complete!
Have a great day!
With Love,
Hugs to all~(Especially to LIFE IS SWEET and her adorable Smart Strike colt!)

Dottie, thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures of Life is Sweet and her new colt. He looks strong for only a few hours old. Wonder who the sire is and whether he has a big star as well? So happy the scan showed successful results. Just think that next year we will be seeing Zenny with her new foal. That will be so exciting! Mike E will be riding at Dubai tomorrow. Wish him a safe trip!

This little (well, actually – not so little, and very robust) colt of Life is Sweet is so precious….I agree with another comment that he certainly looks older than a few hours in this pic. Also, I was a bit surprised about the halter right away, but above comments explained that one. Therefore, I assume that someone from the foaling staff does imprinting right after birth. Life is Sweet certainly exemplifies her name. What a sweet and affectionate Mama – she looks so happy, proud. Baby LIS has the look of a content, much loved, and from the start – well nourished, foal. Great about Z’s latest scan. She, too, will be a loving dam.

Don’t mind me. You already posted that it was a Smart Strike colt! A half brother to Curlin!

Oh, Zennie!!! This just made my day. Life Is Sweet’s baby was born on the same day as my dear godchild. How exciting! How nice of you to share these precious pictures of our sleepy girl who is now a mom. She looks wonderful……

I guess one does not have to worry about
Halter breaking thoroughbred foals. It is put
On day one and stays on. The halter is sooo
Cute and tiny. He does look older than a day.
Big and strong and fast!!!!!

@Tory–Sweet Smarts! Wow! Your suggestion is a perfect name for Life is Sweet’s little foal by Smart Strike. Best wishes to momma and baby.

Zen, what do you think the colt by Smart Strike is gonna be named? How StrikeTheSmartLife (18 characters is the limit right?)

Beautiful and unusual face marking on that colt. We will be able to pick him out when he starts racing.

thanks @l.s. – didn’t know they put halters on newborn foals. heck, i don’t know the difference between a halter and a bridle! oh wait, the bridle has a bit, right?

That is the BEST! Look at how happy she is with her baby! This is the BEST- seeing these great horses lives after the track. We normally don’t get to see much of that- I LOVE IT!!

Congrats to Life is Sweet and her foal.

Congratulations to Life Is Sweet and her new baby colt! And am very glad to hear Zen’s 28 days scan went well!
To someone who posted waaay up above wanting to know when the baby will be named – colts/fillies who are slated for a racing career are not named until they are sold – usually at the Keenland yearling sale. Until Zenyatta was bought by the Mosses, she was called Little Tige because her mother’s name was Vertigeneaux. But typically, they are identified through their mother until sold. When bought, the owner then names the colt/filly and starts the process of hiring someone to train it in starting gate training, learning to run on a track, etc. After that, they are sent to a trainer of the owner’s choice and kept there through their racing career. After that part of their life ends, they are turned out in a fantastic place like LEF and hang out for the rest of their lives. If one is lucky enough to be a horse like Zenyatta – with fabulous owners – it’s quite the life, I’d say!

Hi all,
Personally, I like the name SWEET STRIKE for the new colt. I do not think it is girl-y but perfect for the little guy.
