Happy Monday Everyone!
I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend. It was nice here…and I know it was pretty on the East Coast. California had quite a bit of rain. It is probably their last few days of rain for this season so it is good they had it. It was great weather to enjoy all of the MARCH MADNESS games on TV. The teams have now gone from 64 to 32 and the Sweet Sixteen play next weekend! Good luck to all who have made it to this level!
I just love this photo of my friends from BARN 55 hanging out in MY STALL! There’s my Mario and Steve sending me a big HELLO. They are on each side of the group. Junior, posed in the front, used to walk me and graze me often in the afternoons. Cheva did too. They tried to help Mario out with me and helped to take care of me on his days off. So sweet! Michelle actually took this picture so she is not in it…but sent her regards.
MY BARN 55 Friends keep in very close contact with me. John and Dottie update them all of the time on my well-being. It is great to see their familiar faces again!
YOU will love seeing them as well! With the contest, Dottie and I have decided that my BARN 55 Friends are the ones who will be pulling out the postcards from the containers. So, Mario, Steve, Michelle, Cheva, Frank and my friends are going to be the ones pulling out the LUCKY CARDS for you. John is going to video this and we will post it all from BARN 55.
Dottie is in the process of confirming with the Post Office the address to use. We should have that in the next day or so. We wanted to alert them as to the number of cards that might be submitted. It is getting exciting! Once the address is on the web-site, we will give you a full week to submit the cards. Then the DRAWING of names begins!
We are also confirming with NINA the details of the BRONZE. She said she is sending the first shipment of them out this week to people who have ordered them. What a thrill!
One other important thing is happening later this week. I will be scanned again to be sure everything is A-OK on my 28 day check-up! HOOVES CROSSED!
YOU will be the first to know!
I’m off to play with my paddock pals. They all send you a big HELLO!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~

@Carolyn – That was a beautiful story. Thanks for sharing. We can all learn something from that. Love You Zenyatta and keeping my fingers crossed that your pregnancy goes well.

@Carolyn,
Thanks for sharing that e-mail, it was wonderful to read, and brought tears to my eyes. Sometimes I do not have time to read all of the comments, but I am glad I stayed up just a little later tonight to have my heart touched by the reminder of the “bell of friendship” we all need to heed, and the hand of God to guide us on our ways !
Great photo of the group at Barn 55, I would love to travel to CA someday to see it, and take the Zenyatta tour.
Hooves crossed for a positive scan, thanks for keeping us posted Dottie.
Sweet dreams.
Jackie
What a special photo. I am sure all your friends in Barn 55 miss you terribly cause I know all your fans do! If I were John, I don’t think I would ever be able to use the stall for another racehorse. There will never be another Zenyatta!
Hope all is well with your checkup. Excited about your foal!
Hugs and Kisses

Aww, yes reality L.S. There it is! You are right on. The fact is racing killed itself by allowing off track betting to become legal! At one time you could only bet at the tracks – remember “bookies”? People were jailed for placing bets with one, likewise the bookies! And you NEVER saw a payphone at any track – someone might place a bet to their bookies instead of at the track! What everyone needs to do to save this beautiful sport, is to go to your local tracks and be present! WE all know that you can’t stop progress, but this could save racing too. Some in the industry were too greedy and shot theirselves in the foot big time with that one! Now people can bet over the phone or computer instead of being on track – Thanks! Big Shots the racing world over for that!! HA! Karen Long Beach

Dearest, Zenny. Getting ready to call it a day, beautiful girl. Rest easy. Sweet dreams. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
@Carolyn – Thank you for such an uplifting story. It did bring a tear. If we try our best to be those that listen, our lives can be truly blessed, not by what we get, but by what we give. How wonderful that so many here who are touched by the spirit of our sweet Zenny, including Team Z, Barn 55 and Lane’s End have such great hearing.
@Sharon Call – Loved your post, I couldn’t agree more.

Beautiful Queen Zenyatta,
What an amazing team you had. It is good to see their faces. No wonder you felt so loved and did so well!
Praying that all continues to go well with your pregnancy. I pray for strength for you and the little one. It would be special to have a “Princess”

Dear Zenny & Team-Z,
Great picture of the Barn55 section of Team-Z. I sure hope Hollywood Park can remain open for many years to come. It has a fabulous location and I think the track and back-stretch could stay, as is; the grandstand could be refurbished to be similar to Meydan in Dubai(with the hotel over-looking the track)and Gulfstream Park in Miami(with the shops, restaurants, and boutique viewing/betting areas). A parking structure at the entrance side would be a big improvment, too. It would be wonderful to wake-up in a hotel room and look out the window to view the morning workouts, of those beautiful thoroughbreds. It’s fun to day-dream!!
On a different subject, I read an update, a few hours ago, about John Shear, the heroic paddock guard at Santa Anita, who was injured on 3/12/’11…he got moved out of ICU to a regular room, at Huntington Memorial Hospital…that’s such good news!! Prayers for his smooth recovery.
Zenny, enjoy these warmer Spring days, with your pals, in your paddock at L’sEF. Hugs to you all. Fondly, OraJean

As others have stated, all horses are individual. However, if one researches the Bedouin Arabians – way back when – often it was the MARES they took into battle, while leaving the stallions home, at the tents, to protect the families. I was rather astonished at this, but – it does make sense. The alpha mare is always the leader – taking the herd to food, water, etc. The stallion protects. The mare, by nature – (… all females?) must be the stronger in many ways – giving birth in the wild, leading the herd, and, in many documented instances, actually helping the stallion in protecting the herd, by keeping all together, and away from other band stallions, or bachelor stallions seeking to “steal” them, while her primary stallion battles another. We often see geldings in the hunter/jumper & eventing arenas. However, I will quote one person, originally from Canada, who did quite a few “A” circuits, and who has two mares – one of whom she lets me ride – that a very well known, & respected, trainer once stated – “A mare is, perhaps, more complex, but the mare, unlike the stallion or gelding, will, once a team, give 200%, to their rider.” Also, although I am sure most people here are aware of this, Zenyatta, like 90% (if not more), of today’s racehorses, goes back – on her sire’s side – to the Darley Arabian.

Hello Zenny, Alyse, PQ, and Seagull!! You girls make one beautiful posse. I’m getting my postcards ready, although it’s hard to know what to say on a little postcard. Guess that’s what blogs are for. Love you bunches, and good luck on your scan.

Gret picture of all the gang at barn 55. So glad you give them credit for your success. Love that you are kicking up your heels with all your friends in Kentucky. We sure miss seeing you on the track but so glad you are healthy and happy.

Everyone, I’m glad you enjoyed the email, I wish I knew all the steps to downloading pictures to a site, because this email has pictures of two beautiful horses standing together in a field. I take it they are the two horses the email was talking about. I am computer illiterate, I’m very limited on what I know how to do with these machines. Well, you all understand, actually it’s three pictures of the same two horses together in the field, beautiful….

@audreyc
Always enjoy your knowledge on horses. Interestingly we had a choice to ride Arabians last year during our to Wadi Rum (Jordan) but had already planned a hiking/climbing/camping trip with Bedouin guides. Now regret not doing it :/ maybe next time. Thinking of our trip last year to Jordan reminds me of Z. We went in an attempt to complete seeing the (newer) 7 Wonders of the World (Petra). I now have Zenyatta on that list. She certainly could qualify as one of the “Wonders of the World.”
.
Happy Wednesday to you Z and all of the faithful posters. Truly enjoy the read…

My Sweet Lady Zenyatta, How are you doing today? I was re-reading your post # 205 to refresh myselfon the rules & I posted my comment for today there so I’m writing it again on the correct day. Silly me! I wanted to tell you “Happy Birthday To Bernadini” proud PaPa of Baby ZB. You know your baby is a “One in a Million” Baby that could be the next Superhorse in racing. That’s exciting to think about but that’s the future and we got a lot of living to do between now & then, like your pregnancy. I’m looking forward to hearing about your scan. I have Faith that it will show positive results. I just wanted to tell You & Dottie Thank You to be able to send in my thoughts on what you mean to me for a chance to win a beautiful Nina’s Zenyatta Bronze Statue. I hope You have a wonderful Spring day with your gal pals for fun in the sun filled with running, playing & resting. I love you, Sweet Zenyatta! Sending Hugs & Kisses From Alabama With Love, Amanda G.

Your 55 family is extraordinary but then so are you. Nervously awaiting the results of your scan. You will be the best mom ever.

@ Carolyn, Thanks for the wonderful heart warming story! I always read the posts backward. That way when I see posts responding to the above posts,I look out for them because I know they are special. I love this story because I believe that God makes all of us & the animals special with & without limitations to help each other deal with the life we are handed. No matter what we go through, God is with us. The good things are easy to understand but the bad things we sometimes question God why this had to happen. God will give us the strength to cope with the bad and then use the bad to the good to help others to cope. Life is not always fair but we have to make the most of it to enjoy it. I learned to focus on helping others in need and it took my focus off my limitations and that helped me the most of all. So in the story the horse that could see had a greater purpose in life to be the seeing eyes of his blind friend so he could live safely and enjoy life to the fullest. The blind horse could see with his heart what his friend was doing for him. What a lesson of life between these two horses.

Thank you for the great picture! They must be missing you like crazy. Hope all goes well for you and Baby Z! I am thinking that I will go to Santa Anita next week to celebrate your birthday April 1st! Hugs!

Hi Zenny I hope you are receiving a little sunshine today. I can’t wait for the news about the scan. The children ask me daily if it is a boy or girl. I just hope all is going as planned. We are all new at this horse thing. Well back to work dear girl. We love you. Hugs and Kisses from Shari and Homeroom 215 XXXOOO
@Dawn I hope all is well with you. I was a little under the weather. I feel better today. God Bless my friend, Shari :)
students. They are writing stories for practice. They are writing on paper. It was their idea. I would never expect to win the bronze for myself. If you knew me and the situation at this school you would not make comments like that. I would do and give to my students. If they need something i go buy it. Most teachers here do.

Sorry about the other stuff. I was writing a comment back to Sally and we had a short lunch period.

Book Fair here and it is crazy :)

Hi!
I have a question for John Shirreffs ~ I was wondering why all of your horses use a shadow roll? I know the purpose of this equipment, but why is it used on ALL of the horses in your barn? I’m sure you have an excellent reason! :-) Thanks, John.
DJ
Dearest Sweet “Z”,
Send ‘best of luck’ to your family today on the Third Race! Rootin for 1,1A : Sarbonne and Savion :) Wish wish we could be there, but there in Spirit! Beautiful horses, like Y.O.U.

@Judy Maass:
What is the purpose of the shadow roll?
