HAPPY WEEKEND!
I truly want to THANK all of my fans for the total JOY you have expressed upon finding out that I AM IN FOAL! One fan, Barbara, sent this photo to Dottie yesterday. She took it of ME with her friend, Donna Kruck, 4 days before I left Barn 55! (I think Frank looks great here too. Love his T-shirt!) The encouragement by all of YOU for ME to become a wonderful MOM started so many months ago. I sincerely appreciate your kindness!
I also want to thank the fans who are sending ME my favorite craving of the moment, BANANAS. They are fabulous and very tasty! Charles and Sarah send a big THANK YOU as well. There is no reason now for them to make late night trips to the market to get some for me! YOU GUYS ARE TOO CUTE and so kind! You think of everything!
On another note, my dear jockey, Mikie, is riding some stakes races in Arkansas today. He just called Dottie and wanted to share this bit of news. As he was driving from the Airport to Oaklawn Park, there was a HUGE BILLBOARD of ME…winning last year’s Apple Blossom Handicap. It is on the point where Highway 30 meets Highway 70 on the way to the track. It is titled…WIN CITY, Hot Springs, Arkansas–OAKLAWN PARK! Mike commented that HE and I both look TERRIFIC in the photo! (Blush, Blush!)
I want to wish MIKE great luck with his racing today. Also, I have noticed that 2 of my very dear competitors from last year, Switch and St. Trinians, are both running in the Santa Margarita-Grade 1 at Santa Anita this afternoon. I won this race last year…and wish them both ALL THE BEST! This should be a very exciting contest!
Additionally, several prominent 3 year old stakes are taking place around the country today. I guess I know what I’ll be chatting about with my Lane’s End friends this weekend…GREAT RACING! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
Please don’t forget…set your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed tonight! Day-light savings time is here!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(With Special Blessings for our friends in JAPAN)

Ensign thank you for the link. Always A Princess is doing well and is going to be retired. Go to google and type in “Zenyatta.” There is an article about breeding, Zenyatta and Rachel. Interestingly, the mating of Zenny’s parents was given a D+ rating (really low). Too funny. That was accurate huh?!Zenny and Bernie get an A++. There is only one higher level. I think Rachel and Curlin get a A.
Paula Higgins
Ingrid, sorry about you break-in and losing your Zenyatta hat. I had one 10 years ago and the thief took(among other things) a picture/dageurrotype of my many times great grandmother from the 1840’s. Go figure. Still praying for all the people and animals in Japan. If you are able to donate, the Red Cross and Save The Children are taking donations of any amt.

Shizuka, our hearts and prayers are with you all in Japan.

Hi Zenyatta I hope you had a good day with your friends. I love the picture of you. I hope we can get some pictures of you in your motherhood beauty. I think your new baby is going to be soo beautiful and talented. My students are so excited for this event. They ask me daily what you are going to have. How cute is that. Well sweet girl I have school work to do. I love you and my class loves you so much. Thank you for being such a positive role model for them. Thank you Dottie for keeping us informed. This site does so many things for so many of us. I am praying for the people of Japan. Hugs and Kisses from Shari in Ohio XXXOOO
@ Hi Dawn have a good week. God Bless :)
J Smith
@Ingrid. I’m afraid I laughed too, it was just the way u wrote it, but I agree, he will be suffering from some serious bad karma, and hopefully u will find the cap in your driveway one morning very soon.
@dscott thanks for link to Black Caviar, she is a rocket!
Zenyatta, you were right, there wss some good racing on Saturday. Next time you tango with barn 55, would you get an update on all your old friends for us. Would love to know how Life is Sweet, Harmonious,& Zedana are doing. Also would be most interested to know what other horses are lucky enough to be owned by Mr. & Mrs. Moss. I’m sure you will be contemplating the importance of keeping in touch with friends and family as your pregnancy goes on, one can never have to many babysitters on speedial!
Charlie Crumpton
@Ingrid in MA This is what I foresee for our cap criminal. He will like the cap, look up Zenyatta, read these fan mail pages, be inspired by Zenyatta’s winning ways, be regretful, give up his life of crime, and open banana vending machines for schools & racetracks thoughout your area. However, he will not be so greatly inspired as to return the cap. His path to your driveway will be his road to Damascus moment.

To SHIZUKA…Our prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery are being sent to you and all the people of Japan.
To ENSIGN…Thanks for the link to Kate’s report concerning the racehorses in Japan. That was the best news, today!!!
Dear Queen-Z & Team-Z,
Thank you again for this wonderful site. You are the best thing to happen to the racing community, in my life time. Stay well and happy, Zenny and Zenbryo!!
Fondly, OraJean

@Shari Voltz – Hello my friend. Looks like spring is here in the mountains. YEA! The sun has been shining and almost all of the snow is gone. I will be out there enjoying my yard and gardens soon! I hope you had a fun weekend and have a wonderful week ahead. Love, Dawn :)
@Ingrid in MA – I am so sorry for the what happened and the loss of your Z cap. I know it must have hurt, but your humor about the situation is certainly making lemonaide from lemons. Your “karma” remarks are spot on and some of the other posts have been great. That thief just doesn’t know what mojo he might be messing with. Keep smiling! :)
@Read the Bloodhorse article about John Shear, the paddock guard at Santa Anita. I certainly hope that he is doing well. What a special man to take such action.
Also, condolences to Darley on the loss of Fort Hughes.
Dawn Conrad
@ENSIGN – Thank you for all of the information concerning Japan. You are truly appreciated!!
Barbara Wood
@Sharon in Seattle and J Smith–thanks! I found the Bloodhorse link right after I posted my question, but I don’t get HRTV, so I appreciate the info.
@Ingrid in MA–hoping Charlie Crumpton is right about your thief!
Dearest Z– hope you have had a lovely Sunday with your buddies, comparing notes. With all your branching out with new foods, maybe you could star in a new cooking show in your spare time. We could call it “Munching With Z”. Good night, sweetie. Love you always.

Zenny, want to do lunch sometime? Let me know.

Beautiful Zenyatta, Thanks for the heads up regarding the races this weekend. Congrats to Cloud Man, Mr. and Mrs. Moss, John and Dottie for being in the circle you know so well. Also watched your two competitors from last year, checked on Mike who won in Arkansas, and took in Uncle Mo’s win. You know he wanted you as his girl friend but found out you were already taken. Maybe next year? I must say that all these horses are wonderful and work so hard at their job, but there is something mystical about you that touches my heart in a way that goes beyond description. There will never be another Zenyatta. Will keep you in my prayers for a healthy trip to motherhood.
Dawn Conrad
@d scott – Thank you for the link to Black Caviar. She is a beauuuuty, as they would say down under.

@Sharon in Seattle: Your post touched my heart, Sharon because I felt exactly the same way. Last year I was hanging over the railing in the dining room at Santa Anita screaming for our Queen. But, this year, watching the TV screen, I wanted that “frantic, gutsy” girl to win as a reward for the exhausting and admirable effort she put forth last year. Ah well, she came home safely, and her time will come. I loved your post.
Hugs to your hooves, Mama Mare –they are safe and sound!

Hi Everyone, Well, the situation in Japan is certainly heartbreaking and I know all of us pray that everyday brings relief and gets them on the road to recovery–glad Ensign provided the info on the horses. Zenyatta, maybe you could share your racing “angel” with friends in Japan. Zenny, I am still thinking Pink. Peace, Janet C

I am so Happy that you are in foal! My student drew a picture of you, Bernadini and Baby Z. We shot a movie too of her talking all about you. She is the little girl who starred in Christmas with Zenyatta 2010.I want to send you a copy of the picture so you and Bernadini can enjoy it. I love you and we still talk about you. Pretty soon it will be your real birthday on April 1. We will celebrate your birthday. Love SORTH

To All – HRTV showed a picture of Always A Princess this afternoon, following her surgery this morning. They reported that she recovered well from the surgery & was up & about. She had a cast on her left-front leg (where they operated) & her right-front leg was wrapped, perhaps to protect it & prevent laminitis due to imbalance. She looked good & they said her prognosis is good for recovery so that she can go on to become a broodmare, like our dear Z, but not until next breeding season when she is fully healed.

I’m sure this gentleman has seen Zenyatta a number of times. He is a paddock guard at Santa Anita and is also now a hero after rescuing a little girl from a runaway loose horse. A subsequent report on Bloodhorse says that he is recovering and on the improve.

Zenny, have fun eating your favorite bananas. Thanks for sharing this great photo but I thought the guy was Mario. Thanks as well for reminding us of the great races that are in progress and to keep our human and animal friends in Japan in our thoughts and prayers. You are sych a great and thoughtful horse.

@Shari Voltz – Just watched a Dateline special on the devastation in Japan. How heartbreaking. I know as a teacher you may be faced with the difficulty of answering your students questions or concerns about the images they are seeing and the stories they are hearing. Just wanted to let you know my thoughts will be with you in the coming days. God bless. Dawn

Hi Zenyatta. Ensign, thank you so much for your update about our horses in Japan. I have been heartsick worrying, especially about Azeri. Our prayers are with them and the people of Japan. Thank you again Ensign.
Zenyatta, love you so. Continue to be happy with your BBFs, continue to enjoy your fruits and cravings and be safe. We pray to St. Francis each morning for you and your baby to be healthy and safe.
It was so good seeing a picture of Always a Princess on HRTV this morning. God bless her and keep her healthy to enjoy the joys of being a mother.
Zenyatta, love you, Angel in Disguise.
Joyce
Hi, Zenny, hope you are feeling great and OK about the changes in your body you may be feeling. Do you and your BGFs talk about it? Are any of them going to join you in motherhood? They appear to be part of your new life now so I hope they will be around so you can share your experiences. Also, very importantly, how is your dancing these days? I haven’t heard about you making “those” moves lately and hope you are keeping up with this part of your charm. Of course you’d need to be very, very careful, but then you have always had such great balance. Know that you are GREATLY loved!

Dearest Zenyatta, I am so thrilled that you are going to be a mommy. I know you will be a great mom, especially when I saw how loving and sensitive you are to everyone when I visited you at Hollywood park last November. I have shared all my pictures and magazines and articles about you with my discussion group buddies at the new Sr.Activity Center in Hermosa Beach,(sort of like the Zenyatta lounge) and they all love you and can’t wait to hear about you every week. They want to send you a card for your birthday, signed by all of us, so expect to get that in the next few weeks. And a special present from me too. You’re such a special horse, Zenny, and I’m so glad that you’re fat and happy, barefoot and pregnant, and so very healthy. And thank you and Dottie for giving so much love and happiness to all of us.
Lynn ..... (nearby Hwd Park) California
Zenny mommy, Hi!
I am sure happy to hear that ‘Always A Princess’ is recovering and on her way to a successful repair.
I was there when she went down. I was right at the track fence as she fell just 20 feet in front of me. She didn’t even try to get up. Lucky for her she stayed down. Then the dredded curtain went up around her. All the track crew helped her. and the poor Jockey … ouch! … the fall tossed him into a few tumbles before HE stopped. Thankfully he is okay too.
All I could think of was … help me Zenny,!! I need your magic to help make her better, please transend hope with me. Well we did it!
So, Z, you and your baby stay safe. hugs
Gloria Jeanne
Dottie- Please try and post Z’s embrio images/scan, if it’s ok…Too Cute Thank You-Love and Hugs my Queen :-)
Ingrid in MA
@Charlie and all – thanks! I certainly hope the l’il robber turns out as well as you foresee! Although,I think justice would be him seeing a BIG,glowing letter Z everywhere! Just as a reminder of WHO he messed with! Kind of like the old “It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature” commercials – It’s not nice to fool with Mother Zenyatta!! It’s OK that y’all laugh – for me,it’s laugh or cry,and I’d rather smile than give someone like that the satisfaction of knowing they “broke” me. Down but not out! I’d really like to get after family and friends that say “It’s just a HAT.” Just a hat? JUST a HAT?!? It’s a ZENYATTA hat! It’s NOT JUST a hat! As far as donating for Japan,I’ve made a donation to The Humane Society International (HSI). Seems like the animals always get “forgotten” or put on the back burner in times like these,so I try to remember them.
