HELLO EVERYONE!
I’ve missed YOU!
I guess my guys at the farm could not wait a moment longer…and they scanned me this morning. I just had to share the news with you!
I AM IN FOAL!
This is my 15 day scan! From what I am told, everything looks fabulous and solid. The embryo looks to be a good size. So, at this time, everything is WONDERFUL!
I will be rescanned at about 28 days and if that is all A-OK, my next scan will be at the 40-42 day time period from the date I was bred. As Dottie explained to you earlier, the latter scan is really very important. If all is perfect at that time, then I am pretty well on my way in my pregnancy. This is all so exciting and so new to me! I JUST LOVE IT!
David actually called Dottie at 4:33 this morning (California time) to tell her the news! She immediately ran to the computer to type up the announcement for YOU!
I truly hope you enjoy sharing these moments with ME and going through all of these different stages that I am experiencing in my life.
Hmmm! I just had a thought! Lately, I have been craving BANANAS. It seems like that is all I’ve been thinking about for the last few days! I guess this could explain why. Dottie tells me craving some type of food is very normal for humans while pregnant. Maybe it is for horses like me too! This is TOO CUTE!
Oh my! I better contact BERNIE and let him know the good news! I’m sure he will also be very excited!
WOW! I’M IN FOAL! I’m really embarking upon an entirely new stage of my life and career. As you can imagine, I’M JUMPING FOR JOY!
HOOVES CROSSED for the news on my next scan to be just at POSITIVE!
With Love,
HUGS and Big Kisses to All~

ME…IN FOAL! YIPPEE!
P.S. – This is post #201 to commemorate the second chapter of my life!
Susan A.
Congratulations to Zenyatta, the Team that loves you so, and last but not least, Bernardini!!!
Susan, M.A. :)
Regina From NJ
@Mickey Burleson: OMG–I love that! Please put it to music and then on You
Tube!
@Margie–Thanks so much for putting out the welcome mat for me. After enjoying all the wonderful posts for the first 100 days, I started feeling like a stalker! So here I am-another bona fide “Zennatical” joining the ranks. Yea.
@Karey R and Kathryn Cogswell: Thanks for the comment re. my theory of “Chapter 2-Post 1”. I guess we’ll know if it holds true with the next post. Smile, smile!
Yes, Zenyatta, there really are Zennaticals out here who think that a day is not complete without you in it, and thank you, Mama Mare, for knowing that.
Karey R
Regina, Can’t be sure but I think Dottie added the post script to her original diary entry making it clear that your theory is correct. Glad you are now a bona fide card-carrying ‘Zennatical’. It’s a happy thing to be!
Kathy Kimber
Another exciting day is it possible to know if any of your gal pals are also pregnant what a big nursery to come.
CJ
Yeee Hawww……I am so happy for you! This is very exciting news. Go celebrate with your girlfriends!

Hi Big Z–Hope you are having a good day, basking in the love of your fans–a great group of friends here. Please let us know when your girlfriends are in foal and who the daddies will be. And congratulations, Bernie, you adorable boy. I wish I had known when I met you that you would be Zenny’s mate.
Trina Nagele
@jan bellet– I like that name Sting for a colt–or how about Zee Sting?
Trina Nagele
@jan bellet–Oops, it was someone else who recommended Sting, but I liked your suggestion Zini too!

MARRY ME Z, THERE’S STILL TIME!!!!

@Lauren. Well put.
@Teresa E. My heart goes out to you. You obviously don’t understand what it is to have a hero and love something(one) that has brought you joy. I don’t think you’ve followed all of the diary posts, pictures and videos of Z since she has gone to Lane’s End. If you had, you would have seen her grazing with her “girtfriends”, running and bucking, rolling in the mud and getting some pretty outstanding treats both in and out of the barn. She is where she needs to be at this point in her life. Yes, she did her job on the track for 3 years and did it very well. However, she is 7 years old now and should have been retired from the track exactly when she was and was retired healthy and sound. The care she is receiving at Lane’s End is outstanding and, yes, she will be bred when her body is ready to be bred. While she is carrying each and every foal, she will be monitored and taken very good care of. If she isn’t carrying a foal, she will still be taken excellent care of.
She is not “poor Zenyatta”. She is revered as a great race mare and a hero to so many people that take inspiration from her. Would you have her raced until she breaks down? Then she truly would be “poor Zenyatta”.
She will add to the racing industry now through her offspring and through her legacy that has inspired thousands of people to sign into her facebook page, learn more about horses in general and turn their eyes to OTTB’s and rescue horses nation wide.
Don’t pity this mare, revere her and understand that the people that post to this site and her facebook page love her and are inspired to to do good things.

Good Morning Little Momma QUEEN
Hope you are feeling well and eating what you need. I know that your Team will pick your name but for me it is ZENAGAIN. I know your foal will have your sweet disposition and drive to be a winner. Have a good day.

@TeresaE, No Zenyatta won’t be. Before she retired Ann Moss said that she would not be constantly bred. Look, don’t confuse these folks for some others. Ann Moss loves this horse and is not planning on selling her foals, so believe you me, I think after Zenyatta produces a some foals they will stop her or breed her every other year …….she will not be bred to death. If her first foaling are complicated, we may see a very very few of zenyatta foals, because they will not jeopardize Zenyatta’s health just for a dollar and a foal. They are not poor and don’t need the money. They have shown how much they love her do you really think they would do her like that? get real, she is not your regular mare.

Got a name for the foal, gender neutral:
“When We Dance”, beautiful love balled from the CD “Fields of Gold, Sting’s Greatest Hits”.
How about some feedback from the Z community?
Gary Moulton

The world started shaking when we all knew,

My sweet Zenyatta I hope you are feeling SUPER this day. I had the day off due to the snow. Ohio has had a really bad winter. We will be making up a few days at the end because of all this snow. I have to tell you Miss Zenny that I am so happy about you being with foal that I am telling everyone. A worker at Rite Aid asked me about you and I was just smiling ear to ear as I told her your good news. Just keep eating your bananas :) I am just waiting on my husband to come home from work. He has been layed off for over 2 years and he found a job. It is 59 miles away but it is a job. I thank God for that. I love you sweet girl and talk to you each and every moring when I look at your beautiful pictures. Stay warm. Hugs and many Kisses from Shari in Ohio XXXOOO
@Dawn good to see your post. You are my new friend and I was worried. Take care and God Bless, Shari

@ Teresa
You made one good point, it is a huge loss to the racing industry. The “racing industry” blew there opportunity when she was racing. The turf writers relagated Z to a synthetic specialist who never beat anybody. Then at the end of her third year they could not praise her enough and constant advertising that Z would be at Churchil Downs to defend her BCC win. There were an estimated 73,000 people at the BC, me being one, and the majority were there for one reason only, to see Zens last race. The racing community had such a great opportunity with Z, she was there all along, too bad they missed the boat. Oaklawn Park however recognized the draw Z was and had a record crowd for the A Bloosom, someone in the biz saw a great op and took advantage of it.
Z gave it all up on the track how selfish to say she should be back with what she enjoyed. Z is very happy, adjusted completely to being a horse. What would it take for the racing community to be happy, to see her run to death like Rach was in her 3 year old year. Rach gave it all on the track, is that really what you wanted for Z. To do a complete breakdown for the racing industry, I don’t think so.
She is just fine where she is, I miss her races too, but Z and the Mosses don’t owe us one thing,She won close to $8 mil,she paid for her retirement in my opinion. The last thing I am is sorry for Z, she hit the jackpot the day David I discovered her, and the day the Mosses bought her, the day she was given to John S to train and to Dottie for race planning. Yeah I feel real sorry for Z, it’s a shame all horses aren’t treated so miserably. Z is so special, one in a million and now everyone recognizes it.
Ann Moss loves her so much, if it is within her power ,Z will be as happy 20 years form now as she is today. Z is just fine.

Just voted again for 2011 Broodmare of the Year from my home computer. Your mom is at 67% at all votes cast now.
L
@Carolyn,
Do you have a link to where Ann Moss talked about their breeding plans for Zenyatta?
I’m just curious as it goes against all common logic and health sense of keeping broodmares to purposefully let them be fallow a year and then try to breed back the next year.
Peppermint
WOW! What great news! You looked so beautiful in your photo, too. You and Bernie should be very proud of yourselves. I’ll eat a banana in your honor and look forward to your next post.

HIP HIP HOORAY! I`m sharing the news

all of you….Dottie
Lauren
I don’t usually like to be negative, but I feel I must comment. This site is for the purpose of sharing the everyday life of Zenyatta. It is not to pass judgment on her breeding plans, her racing plans or to cast negative thoughts on other people’s thoughts and beliefs. I really wish that it could be kept for the simple purpose of the love we all share for this wonderful horse.
