HELLO EVERYONE!
I’ve missed YOU!
I guess my guys at the farm could not wait a moment longer…and they scanned me this morning. I just had to share the news with you!
I AM IN FOAL!
This is my 15 day scan! From what I am told, everything looks fabulous and solid. The embryo looks to be a good size. So, at this time, everything is WONDERFUL!
I will be rescanned at about 28 days and if that is all A-OK, my next scan will be at the 40-42 day time period from the date I was bred. As Dottie explained to you earlier, the latter scan is really very important. If all is perfect at that time, then I am pretty well on my way in my pregnancy. This is all so exciting and so new to me! I JUST LOVE IT!
David actually called Dottie at 4:33 this morning (California time) to tell her the news! She immediately ran to the computer to type up the announcement for YOU!
I truly hope you enjoy sharing these moments with ME and going through all of these different stages that I am experiencing in my life.
Hmmm! I just had a thought! Lately, I have been craving BANANAS. It seems like that is all I’ve been thinking about for the last few days! I guess this could explain why. Dottie tells me craving some type of food is very normal for humans while pregnant. Maybe it is for horses like me too! This is TOO CUTE!
Oh my! I better contact BERNIE and let him know the good news! I’m sure he will also be very excited!
WOW! I’M IN FOAL! I’m really embarking upon an entirely new stage of my life and career. As you can imagine, I’M JUMPING FOR JOY!
HOOVES CROSSED for the news on my next scan to be just at POSITIVE!
With Love,
HUGS and Big Kisses to All~

ME…IN FOAL! YIPPEE!
P.S. – This is post #201 to commemorate the second chapter of my life!

Hi, I really think Dottie meant to number the post 201– 2 represents the 2nd chapter of Z’s life– anyone else see it this way?

Zenyatta lovely motherly one: For a long while now, it seems we’ve seen photos of you straight on, no side views. I wondered how you were shape-shifting from racemare to broodmare. I wasn’t sure I liked the term broodmare all that much though I realized it belongs to the official language of the horse world. “Brood” sounded a bit subdued, even lackluster. I looked the word up and as an adjective “brood” means “an animal kept for breeding.” That definition does not match you or match the way Team Z thinks of you. In your intelligence and irreducible individuality you transcend the word “kept.” You are a gift, not a possession. You will be in foal because that’s what you were born for—nature’s desire not the desire of those who “keep” horses.
Today, I see two images of you–one on the webpage itself (newly and permanently installed) and the other on today’s Diary Post–both in profile, your whole transformed body. You are resplendent, Zenyatta–full formed and possessed of a certain statuesque regal grace. You are vividly alive, to be sure, but more rooted to the earth that your beautiful legs stand on than the sleek, athlete’s body had been that knew little of gravity. (Didn’t Mike Smith once say when you accelerated at the backstretch it was like riding on a space ship?)
“Gravid,” which means fecund or pregnant, shares the same etymology as “gravity”–they come from the Latin word “gravis,” meaning “heavy.” How fitting that you have shape-shifted, have been transfigured, from the fleet one who eschewed gravity to a gravid being in whose body a foal grows, as a seed does in Mother Earth.
Your beauty changes, yet remains the same. What a privilege to witness your life as it unfolds and to mingle words with yours.

What good news and delivered so quickly. I am glad to know that I am not alone in checking daily for new of my favorite racehorse of all times, the incomparable, fabulous, multi-talented Zenyatta. She is just so special and much loved.

Wonderful news. However, this post wasn’t on my FB newsfeed. I’ve been waiting for good news!!!!

@Kary R. Thank you so very much. Good news from 2 fronts. My eyes restored and, God willing, our girl’s going to be a Mom. I think It’s going to be a long 11 months but probably fun all the way.

OH Zenny~!!! That is WONDERFUL. I know you are excited and so are we out here . You are going to have the most beautiful foal ever~!!

Oh Robbie PK, you have outdone even your own splendid way with words. Thank you for sharing your insightful perspective and ‘mother nature wisdom’ so that this shining experience takes on even more meaning. Wow… Yes… Such blessings.
Sharon Call
@Robbie PK. What a perfectly beautiful way to describe the metamorphosis the Queen has gone through. She is, indeed, more firmly rooted to the earth than we’ve seen her before and it suits her just as well as flying did. I love your posts. They are beautiful.

@Sharon Call-super news! Thanks for the report.
@DJ–Amen to Psalm 139:13.
The most interesting thing happened this afternoon. We watch “Jeopardy” every day, and today’s winner happened to be a member of the horse racing community in Olkahoma. When Alex asked him about the future of the industry, he mentioned that there were some concersn. Alex said, (and I believe he owns horses in KY), “We need a STAR.” We both wanted to scream at the tv, “We HAVE one, and her name is ZENYATTA!” I wish he hadn’t missed the opportunity to educate the viewers.
Good evening, sweet Z. Enjoy your bananas, you darling girl. Love you always.

Bernie should send flowers – um, make that peppermints and carrots and bananas! Does Bernie have a “Dottie”?

Oh Zen, I am so happy. I just got home & went straight to my computer to see if there was any news. I will go to Bernie’s facebook page ( I think he has one) & congratulate him. I am praying that everything goes well for you & your little one.

To Kathryn: Just catching up on #100 and saw your kind message. I’ve had some end of term reading that took me away from the Diary Posts. Last night I caught up on #96-#100–not good for the eyes.
You mention mustangs–were you actually with a herd?
I’ve just been rereading My Friend Flicka (I’ve had a Mary O’Hara writing project forming, very very slowly, for a while). I even visited Remount Ranch in Wyoming (Goosebar Ranch in the book) and was sure that I saw Thunderhead and his mares grazing in Castle Rock Meadow. It seems, on rereading O’Hara’s books that the horses in the trilogy (and in real life in Wyoming Summer) were mustangs.
I think that My Friend Flicka and Thunderhead are the two best books I’ve ever read that portray horses in and for themselves. Her horses seem (and were) real. That’s what I’d like to express somehow.
I’ve strayed from Zenyatta but not that far. Her Diary Posts are a serialized story, both fantasy and as real as the mud on her beautiful neck.
