GOOD MORNING TO ALL MY DEAR FRIENDS!
HAPPY DIARY #100! WOW! It has been an amazing time!
In thinking about this DIARY ENTRY, I really wanted to tie in so many of the past experiences we’ve shared and open the door for all of us to enjoy other unique moments together. I am one very, very fortunate HORSE! I’ve had an amazing racing career. I’ve received so many incredible acknowledgements and prestigious awards. Yet, most importantly, I have been completely BLESSED to be loved by so many wonderful people.
I’m now living in Kentucky. Hopefully I’ll find out soon about my IN FOAL status. I promise, I will definitely let YOU know the results as soon as possible!
To honor #100, I have one very ‘PRECIOUS’ experience of mine to share with you! My adorable JOHN helped ME put this together for YOU! Even though I was officially retired last November, I was still at BARN 55 for over a month before going to Lane’s End. During that time, it was necessary for me to exercise each day and stay in ‘somewhat’ my normal routine. I was a very fit athlete getting ready to ‘change my focus to farm life’…so John wanted to help ME with this transition and keep ME relaxed, fit and HAPPY!
On my last day of exercise while in California, John had a great idea. He had Steve wear the helmet cam while riding ME. MY ADORABLE JOHN thought it would be very special for ALL OF YOU to go on my LAST GALLOP WITH ME!
The next day, I moved to Kentucky and my daily routine changed to that of becoming a BROODMARE. In modern day terms, Dottie tells me that I am in the process of RESTRUCTURING MY CAREER! TOO CUTE! I think I’m doing quite well at this!
I truly can’t THANK ALL OF YOU enough for the continued LOVE, SUPPORT and ENCOURAGEMENT you have given ME! As I have stated many times before, I really could never have done it without MY TEAM and ALL OF YOU!
Again, HAPPY DIARY ENTRY #100! Please enjoy joining me at the racetrack for MY LAST GALLOP!
Check out the video HERE!
With LOVE,
HUGS to ALL~(and I truly mean this)
Z
P.S. Dottie wanted me to let you know that we will take a few days and get ‘some business things organized’ and work on some future projects. Between all of this and counting the days on my ‘in foal status’, please keep thinking HOOVES CROSSED!
Barbara Wood
The moment that embedded her firmly in my heart was the BCC 2009 in the stretch when she let that last horse in front of her go adead of her as if to say, “You go ahead. I’ll go around on the outside!”
And then her last race , I think, was her greatest ever, and showed even the naysayers her great heart. Love you always, girl.
Sally (B)
Hi Z my lovely lady!! I know you and all your Z family, and those at Lane’s End are busy. I just want you to know we are all CROSSING our hoofs-fingers; and are waiting, waiting to hear the good news. I didn’t know what to do today but write again in anticipation on this post. Perhaps the foal should be named just that, “Anticipation”! ha That is not bad actually. Thinking of you Z. love n a kiss on your soft nose!
Kathryn Cogswell
Janet Cutting: First recorded whinny at LEF; first run, kick, buck — tail aloft, side-pass at the fence top-line, poll arched. Regal, free lady.
Kathryn Cogswell
Sally (B): ‘Anticipation’ . .. promising.

Waiting is such a difficult activity!!!!!!!

Hi Zenyatta – I am still waiting with crossed hooves that you are “in-foal” the waiting is the hardest part… just keep swimming.
Love you and hope you are doing well, Hugs!!

@Especially Horses and shemas. Do you know any details from your reading about Man O’ War’s grandsire, Hastings? His character from the little that I know was very different from the Queen. I would appreciate any recommendations for reading about Z’s family.

Its been 15 days, so what’s the call? In foal or back to Bernardini?
As for Twirling Candy, watch the race. TC was drifting away from the much larger Setsuko and clipped Game On Dude’s hind quarters then bounced back into Setsuko and off him. Blaming Chantal’s whip work when Twirling Candy’s jock didn’t keep his horse straight is blaming the victim.
And Twirling Candy managed to slice open Setsuko’s foreleg in the process.
Steward’s made right decision.
Still crossing my fingers that the vet just didn’t go visit until Thursday…

@Barbara Wood
I also loved the 2009 BCC win. She was awesome against
A fairly good field that day. To be the first female to win
BCC. Although I think the BCC 2010 showed really what
She is made of heart determination and competitiveness.
This race was a lot more horses and a more talented field
Than she ever faced. It is interesting how trainers train. Some
Make sure they have done the distance and the surface. Others
Train and expect talent to make the win. I guess it’s know
Your horse.
I guess we have to wait until the weekend. LE probably
Wants to make sure the embryo is attached to
The uterus before ultrasounding.
Zenny
Hope you are having some restful days with that
Embryo in the oven. Sweet Dreams XXXXOOO

Thanks to everyone for sharing so many interesting sites. We horse lovers just can’t get enough of our equines. Like everyone else I can’t wait to hear the news! I’m hoping and praying!

Hi Z and guys, while on bedrest and waiting for the good news, I’ve been hanging out with Mo (he has a big crush on Z) and Brethren, those boys are something else! Mom and dads lock up your daughters/fillies (heee heee), especially watch out for Stay Thirsty, he’s the silent type :), these boys are definitely gonna break some hearts! I wouldn’t be surprised if they get their own TV show and call it ‘The Party Barn’…. well need to get some rest. Have a great evening.

Like Carrie, I am traveling for business and staying in a hotel. These posts keep me company in the evening. It is so nice to hear everyone chat. Was hoping for 101 tonight. Patience is not my virtue either. To bed. Thanks everyone.

Hi All: I came to the site tonight and was so disappointed to see we are still holding on post 100. I was so hopeful we would receive the good news.
@ ENSIGN: Thanks for responding to my post regarding the 45 day mark.
Waiting is so difficult. Have a nice evening everyone!

Love that video… thanks. It is amazing (though we all know this) just to see again how professional she was on the track, and how she seemed to love it, with her ears alert and going back to the rider in such a relaxed manner, then right back to being alert. It was also amazing at the beginning when she was standing next to other horses to see how much taller she was in comparision. I’m sure it was because of the small camera, but the way it took the video sort of reminded me of seeing the world below through an airplane window, and how you everything below you seems so small and almost insignificant. I’m not saying others around her were insignificant, but to me it just kind of pointed out how riding her must have felt like being on top of the world in a sense, and how amazing it must have been. (Amazing seems to be my word of the day!)
How privileged are those lucky few that did get to ride her and know that feeling. But those who love her are lucky too for they know her greatness and have been touched by her wonderful spirit.
Still thinking foal! I have a congratulations card just waiting to be written and mailed out, so hoping that comes to be. But I can be patient. :)
Love you Zenyatta!

To Dani: I loved the history you provided for this narrative-in-the-making of Zenyatta’s life since we’ve known her.
To Kathryn: I loved your poetic line about Zenyatta’s first freedom since yearling days, especially the words, “side-pass at the fence top-line”–that was quite a moment. As Joe Drape said, “She’s, well, very frisky.”
To Karey R: Hello, after a short absence and hello to Sunny Farm. I still think of your kind response to my first post way back at #33.
100 posts–Team Z, Dottie, and Zenyatta have given us a serialized story, only it’s as real as the mud on Zenyatta’s dappled coat. Given us, too, the privilege of writing along with Zenyatta, mingling our own thoughts, equine knowledge, and love with hers. I think of Zenyatta, whose mother has a French name, as “equine écriture.”
Zenyatta lovely one: What I loved most about the video of your last gallop were your expressive ears. Their constant movement seemed to reflect your thought patterns. Next best was your silky mane that the wind caught as you accelerated your pace. Then, too, the sound of your breathing, so intimate that sound and rhythmic, one for each stride. You seemed calm, no longer suffused with the prey animal hyper-excitability of a Thoroughbred. It seemed you were ready to leave the track and over the next months gradually shape shift into a mother mare.

I’ve been sitting by the computer checking today almost hourly (smile). Oh my I could write a book on how nervous I am. I feel like I’m on foal watch already! And this is only the beginning! I’ll be a wreck 11 months from now!
Hooves crossed, thinking good thoughts and trying to be very patient.
Oh and Zennie your pic that I took last Dec is going to be a part of the wild horse rally tomorrow night in northern Ca. The poster says “Zenyatta says Stop the Cruel and Inhumane Roundups” The other adjoining poster says the same thing but has a pic of Cloud.
I know Cloud isn’t a registered TB so breeding would be wasted but I’ve often wandered what a magnificent cross it would be Zenyatta and Cloud. He has the biggest cannon bones, they look massive. But he is also super about meeting new friends. No he doesn’t dance but he let me approach pretty close and didn’t seem bothered by it.
Karey R
So I’m reading along, getting my evening fix of Zenyatta-related postings, enjoying the news and links from the now familiar names, nearing the end, and I come to Barbara Wood’s post about Z being so polite in the 2009 BC and showing so much heart in the “best race of all” 2010 BC. Boom, crying a flood of tears. Just recovering and I read on to S’s post -“Waiting is such a difficult activity”. Something about this one – so
simple, profound, and dear – just makes me burst out laughing in appreciation and delight.
Bursting into tears one minute and in a laugh riot the next. I have reassured my worried doggies that I’m okay, but honestly, this blog puts me through the emotional ringer. And you’ll notice I’m not staying away. Thank you, dear Z-friends. You are all the BEST!
Karey R
Robbie PK, Oh good! There you are! Been thinking about you and hoping you’re okay.
Glad to see you!

To LauraJ, thank you for the link to Castleton Horse Rescue. I emailed them and they were happy to hear from me. They have alot of horses who need help desperately. I’m sending what I can. Zenny, I’m going to suggest they contact your other dad, Mr. Moss. From what I’ve read he is very generous and is willing to help those who need it. I hope he can help Castleton (if he hasn’t already). Stay warm my beautiful Zenny…mommy-to-be. Hope hope hope! Always loving you, Tammi

@ Especially Horses
If you think a float for Zenyatta at the Rose Bowl is a great idea, an e-mail to tocguestbook@toconline.com would be a nice way to show support for the idea.
Thoroughbred Owners of California ,TOC,
Ali La Duke responded to mine.
I wished more people on this site would e-mail her, and let her know.
Have a good night Zetty, sweet dreams <3<3<3

A Zenyatta float in the Rose Bowl parade sounds great. In fact, I think that Zenyatta should be our National Mascot. The eagle is our National Emblem, but I think the USA needs a mascot like Zeny to represent all of the kind people in this country. I do believe that we will hear something about Zenyatta and Bernardini by the end of the week.

*sigh*
The 10th sounds like a nice round number for good news, don’t you thing. ;)

Valeria, that made me laugh. Mo & co with a reality show, I can just see it now. Those boys really are something else, I always have a good laugh reading their posts. A reality show from their barn sure would be a lot more fun than some of the nonsense on tv.
J Smith
Valeria, you might want to friend Awesome Maria, Uncle Mo’s girlfriend. She is at 99 friends. She does have relevance on here, as Zenyatta is her idol, she is even learning the Zenyatta dance. Everyone loves Z.

Hi Z, I just watched your video on your last gallop, I loved it, it was like I was riding you, Thanks John for sharing that with us. Dear Queem Z, I miss you. Also, why haven’t there been any articles on you and Berni in the paper. I have read all about Rachel and Curlin and nothing about you. I want everyone to know about you and Berni and that you were breed. Love you lots Queen Z and can’t wait to get the news about your baby. Crossed hooves.
XOXOXOXO to you and your team.
