GOOD MORNING TO ALL MY DEAR FRIENDS!
HAPPY DIARY #100! WOW! It has been an amazing time!
In thinking about this DIARY ENTRY, I really wanted to tie in so many of the past experiences we’ve shared and open the door for all of us to enjoy other unique moments together. I am one very, very fortunate HORSE! I’ve had an amazing racing career. I’ve received so many incredible acknowledgements and prestigious awards. Yet, most importantly, I have been completely BLESSED to be loved by so many wonderful people.
I’m now living in Kentucky. Hopefully I’ll find out soon about my IN FOAL status. I promise, I will definitely let YOU know the results as soon as possible!
To honor #100, I have one very ‘PRECIOUS’ experience of mine to share with you! My adorable JOHN helped ME put this together for YOU! Even though I was officially retired last November, I was still at BARN 55 for over a month before going to Lane’s End. During that time, it was necessary for me to exercise each day and stay in ‘somewhat’ my normal routine. I was a very fit athlete getting ready to ‘change my focus to farm life’…so John wanted to help ME with this transition and keep ME relaxed, fit and HAPPY!
On my last day of exercise while in California, John had a great idea. He had Steve wear the helmet cam while riding ME. MY ADORABLE JOHN thought it would be very special for ALL OF YOU to go on my LAST GALLOP WITH ME!
The next day, I moved to Kentucky and my daily routine changed to that of becoming a BROODMARE. In modern day terms, Dottie tells me that I am in the process of RESTRUCTURING MY CAREER! TOO CUTE! I think I’m doing quite well at this!
I truly can’t THANK ALL OF YOU enough for the continued LOVE, SUPPORT and ENCOURAGEMENT you have given ME! As I have stated many times before, I really could never have done it without MY TEAM and ALL OF YOU!
Again, HAPPY DIARY ENTRY #100! Please enjoy joining me at the racetrack for MY LAST GALLOP!
Check out the video HERE!
With LOVE,
HUGS to ALL~(and I truly mean this)
Z
P.S. Dottie wanted me to let you know that we will take a few days and get ‘some business things organized’ and work on some future projects. Between all of this and counting the days on my ‘in foal status’, please keep thinking HOOVES CROSSED!

Zenyatta – What a glorious gift this blog has been for all of us! Thank you and particularly your wonderful blog partner and scribe Dottie for making this all possible! The generosity of Ann and Jerry Moss to make you so accessible is likewise a great and important gift to the thoroughbred racing industry and may it set a standard for the future. This incredible example of outreach to new fans serves as a marvelous introduction to the majesty of horses and what they bring to our hearts and souls. Here’s to the 100th post and may there be more!

Horses legs are very delicate. Bandaging a few times a day
With topical treatments and systemic antibiotics should be used
But the outcome will not be known until they heal and
The horse begins to exercise again. It can be a slow recovery
Taking quite a few weeks. That is why the question.
I think in that race TC was muscled going in and
He got very aggressive splitting the two horses. I did
Not see his jockey do anything. I am not sure the winner
Should have stayed as originally called. There were some questionable
Actions by that horses trainer.

HELLOOOO – everything okay? Doing good good good?? I worry you know! Hope to hear some news soon. LOVE YOU!!

Well I watched the “last work out” video a couple of days ago, and while I’m late to this post, I still have a lump in my throat. It reminded me how Zenny so liked to run – those ears happily pricked forward – and how I miss her racing. This won’t happen, I know, but so many performance mares are still ridden during their first couple of months of pregnancy that I wish Zenny could be ridden – just for a casual jog through the woods – by one of her human pals. Sigh. I bet she would enjoy it. Waiting for good news. Love the good news about RA and hope for all the best for her.

Remember Mother Nature is in charge and can not
Be hurried!!!!! Be patient so DOTTIE/Z are able
To get the info to us!!!!!! Dottie/Z used this site to announce
Her mating day which shows us how important we
Are.

@DianaS
I feel the same. Unfortunately she will not be ridden again.
I like to dream of Mike Smith hopping on her bareback (oh those
Withers are too high)and galloping in the paddock holding the
Lead rope of her halter while she is in foal. I think he would be one
Of the few that could do that. It is a mice dream.

Zenyatta, just viewed Darley’s commercial for Bernardini. Wow! A foal with him could be a Triple Crown horse. Good Luck.

I have been a racing fan since I discovered my love for horses and in my lifetime I have fallen in love with three race horses that I actually got to watch – Easy Goer was my first love, Curlin my second and Zenyatta is my third….but not the least not by a long shot. I have had horses for almost 30 years and worked as a hotwalker and groom at the track as well as with many other breeds and disciplines so while I love all horses I dont get emotional over ones that I dont own or work with – only 3 in my lifetime…but i have to say i think i took it harder watching you just miss catching Blame than even watching Goer miss catching Silence….I loved the video and in a room full of tough salty horseplayers…most of whom hail from Kentucky….I couldnt stop myself from crying over your one and only loss, your final retirement ceremony, and more recently happy tears watching you run free for the first time since you went to the track and now seeing your last time on the track from as close as i am every likely to be to you – lets say i need to find the kleenex :)…..i love you and to all your human team thank you for everything it means more than you know hearing how she is doing…..I got to meet Goer before he passed and hope i will have a chance to meet my other two loves in person soon….hope all the news on the ultrasound is wonderful and you get the chance to prove that you are not only an exceptional race mare but producer to be nominated for broodmare of the year in short order!!!!

Another thing to consider is the live foal guarantee. All this means is that the foal will stand and nurse. At that point the guarantee has been fulfilled. If something bad happened after that the mare owner is out of luck.
Not all studs have a live foal guarantee but alot do.

Dawn, thanks for asking, I’m doing much, much better. Waiting along with everyone else for the blessed news of new life. Like a kid waiting for Christmas morning, wishing everyone a great day.

Good Morning Zenyatta,
you better have your nose in the oats-bag, hay & blue grass following. :) :)
You’re eating for two :) :)
@ Signsofthetime
thanks for the reply,
there was some dispute about that race, kinda reminded me of the one where a jockey sorta cut a couple of horses off by riding in front of them at an angle. It looked very dangerous to me, and that jockey was challenged by one of the other jockeys after that race. Reckless riding of the racehorse should be penalized because for obvious reasons, the injuries sustained could actually lead to the demise of the effected horse(s).
Well, Zetty, have a great day :) :) :)

Beautiful sentiment, you made me cry. My first “crush”, was Man O’ War, a champion before my time, who I came to know only through books. The first horse race I ever saw was on TV, when I watched High Echelon win the Belmont Stakes in 1970. Shortly thereafter I fell in love with my first “still racing” thoroughbred – Ack Ack. I begged my dad to take me to Santa Anita so I could see Ack Ack, Charlie Whittingham, and Bill Shoemaker. Just thinking about them makes me smile.

Zenyatta,
Keeping you in my prayers for a safe pregnancy and delivery and a healthy foal.
God Bless You, your friends at Lane’s End, and all on Team Zenyatta!

Dearest Zenyatta I hope you are warm and dry this morning. It is pouring here in EL. I hope we hear good news today. I feel God knows best so if it is to be it will be. The children ask me daily and make me pictures with you in them. You are a part of my world each and every day. You are also a part of my student’s world too. I hope you know how much you are loved by ALL of us. Have a good day my sweet dear. Much Love, Hugs and Kisses from Shari and room 215 XXXOOO
@Dawn I hope all is well. I also hope to make it to Kentucky this summer. I will have to see. Take care my friend and may God Bless :)

@Sunny Boyd
I whole heartedly agree. That whole situation
Really scared me. I don’t know how they all stayed
On. I guess that Is why they are jockeys. The speed
At which they are going is so fast. They have to respond
In split seconds. All these horses are young and basically
In experienced although most have good minds. In the racing world
Riding 2 and 3 year olds is common. But it is very difficult and takes
A lot of experience.
@Laura J
Great thanks. Knew it was a few weeks away.

Can’t wait for the posting saying you’ve conceived and your little one is ‘on the way,’ with a probable foaling date in early February 2012. As your name was derived from Sting’s album – “Zenyatta-Mondatta,” there is a song in the album titled – “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da.” From the song, “Camptown Races,” lyrics by Stephen Foster, the continuous lyric within the song, is ‘doo-dah, doo-dah,’ a very old, but even today, popular song associated with horse racing. My suggestion for your first foal’s name is “Doo-Dah.” Hope you like the name. We’re all very fond of you and would be a very fitting name to your first offspring.

@curlinsbiggestfan: I enjoyed your post. When I see post like yours – from veteran horsepeople – it just reaffirms that I’m not crazy (like my daughter seems to believe) ….Z’s spell is real.
.
@signofthetimes: ALWAYS look forward to your post. You often times answer a question before I even think of posting.
Curious though, you mentioned “TC was muscled.” I watched the video, but didn’t see anything other than a lot of bumping. Can a jockey be penalized for that or does there have to be proof that it was deliberate? And I’m sure what we view as a little bump could be devastating to a horse.
lizzy
Just read this on BH—- making me anxious. Could Z be next!?!?

I agree with you, we need a 2012 Zenyatta Rose Parade Float. Raul Rodriguez, the greatest designer of Parade Floats needs to design a float in honor of the Great Z. Regarding names, I wonder if enough time has passed and the name Be Like Mom is available. It’s a name given to one of Black Helen’s foals. Unfortunately, Be Like Mom wasn’t like her champion mom, but I have high hopes that Zenny’s foal will Be Like Mom.
