GOOD MORNING TO ALL MY DEAR FRIENDS!
HAPPY DIARY #100! WOW! It has been an amazing time!
In thinking about this DIARY ENTRY, I really wanted to tie in so many of the past experiences we’ve shared and open the door for all of us to enjoy other unique moments together. I am one very, very fortunate HORSE! I’ve had an amazing racing career. I’ve received so many incredible acknowledgements and prestigious awards. Yet, most importantly, I have been completely BLESSED to be loved by so many wonderful people.
I’m now living in Kentucky. Hopefully I’ll find out soon about my IN FOAL status. I promise, I will definitely let YOU know the results as soon as possible!
To honor #100, I have one very ‘PRECIOUS’ experience of mine to share with you! My adorable JOHN helped ME put this together for YOU! Even though I was officially retired last November, I was still at BARN 55 for over a month before going to Lane’s End. During that time, it was necessary for me to exercise each day and stay in ‘somewhat’ my normal routine. I was a very fit athlete getting ready to ‘change my focus to farm life’…so John wanted to help ME with this transition and keep ME relaxed, fit and HAPPY!
On my last day of exercise while in California, John had a great idea. He had Steve wear the helmet cam while riding ME. MY ADORABLE JOHN thought it would be very special for ALL OF YOU to go on my LAST GALLOP WITH ME!
The next day, I moved to Kentucky and my daily routine changed to that of becoming a BROODMARE. In modern day terms, Dottie tells me that I am in the process of RESTRUCTURING MY CAREER! TOO CUTE! I think I’m doing quite well at this!
I truly can’t THANK ALL OF YOU enough for the continued LOVE, SUPPORT and ENCOURAGEMENT you have given ME! As I have stated many times before, I really could never have done it without MY TEAM and ALL OF YOU!
Again, HAPPY DIARY ENTRY #100! Please enjoy joining me at the racetrack for MY LAST GALLOP!
Check out the video HERE!
With LOVE,
HUGS to ALL~(and I truly mean this)
Z
P.S. Dottie wanted me to let you know that we will take a few days and get ‘some business things organized’ and work on some future projects. Between all of this and counting the days on my ‘in foal status’, please keep thinking HOOVES CROSSED!

@Valeria Cannon–great news! Thanks for the report. Lucky you this spring. Try to also make it to Three Chimneys if you can as well.
@Sharon Call–hope your surgery was successful.
We’re all on pins and needles waiting to hear the “in foal” report.
Tomorrow I’ll be constantly watching our Lady Bears on the Big 12 basketball tournament and checking back here. So much going on.

I just received Z’s lithograph and the poster of Z and Secretariat. They are both marvelous and will be a pleasure to look at for years to come. Thank you to Team Z for making this possible and to Christine Crocker at Santa Anita for her excellent organizational abilities in sending them to Canada. We who still love the great Northern Dancer also love the beautiful and powerful Zenyatta.
Elizabeth
Thank you for the wonderous ride : I am breathless!

Hello Beautiful Zenyatta!
I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes watching your last go around the track. It is a very special moment. Thank you everyone on your team for sharing you with us. Everyday I have to look to see your posts.
Thank you for helping educate us about horses, racing, training and development of foals. It is so interesting to learn about your lives. I wish you the best of luck with your foals and hope they are sound, healthy and lucky as you have been.
You are so very special! Thank you and God bless your future. Love, Judy

Zenyatta,
Ummmm.. I wonder what the next post will be about. Maybe the pitter patter of baby hooves. Stay healthy and happy big Mama. Love & kisses from Houston. :)
Lauren
Dear Zenny – It was awesome taking the spin around the track with you. You do have wonderful ears – too cute. I hope you are doing well and by the way, I haven’t been this anxious on impending pregnancy news, since I had my own daughter almost 24 years ago. Hooves crossed – too cute!!!!!

Dropped off my poster of Z and S to be framed and a crowd of people gathered around to tell me what a stunning picture it is! Can’t wait to get it and hang it in a place of honor. Zenny…we are getting close to finding out if you are in foal. We’re hoping and praying!

@Max
I took my Queen Zenyatta lithograph and some glossy 8×10’s of Z to the framer and he asked “is this your horse”? LOL. No, she belongs to the World.
Susan from New Jersey
Hi Zenny;
I wonder what you are going to have to say on your next post. I have a feeling that it will be good news and we will have more hoofs dancing next year. Did your girlfriends have their dates with their beaus yet maybe they will be even more hoofs dancing next year.

@Especially Horses
I had the same comment from my framer. He did not know about Z until I explained at length her accomplishments. Talking about Zenyatta is an very uplifting experience. She brings a smile to everyone’s face when they hear about her story. I will never forget the thrill of watching her race and I look forward every day to hearing about her new life.

While everyone is waiting on news in the next few days, I thought some might be interested to see what they’ll be looking for on the scan.
This site shows the pre-pregnancy follicle, what twin embryos look like, and a single one at 15+ days.

Dear Zenyatta,
I know we are waiting to hear from you and your “In-Foal” status but I still miss you and hope you are doing ok.
HappyHarriet
Dear Queen Zenyatta –
.
There’s much baby anticipation here, on your Facebook page, and in conversation. I’m feeling a bit of queasiness. LOL. Hope that’s a good indicator of the future.
.
QUESTION: Do the owners of stallions or the stables where they “stand” have the right to refuse to breed a stallion to a mare? I know the mare’s owners must be very concerned and attentive to so many factors when breeding and surely the stallion owners must want their horse to be sire to the best potential foals as well, yes? How does that work? THANKS to Ensign and others for sharing your vast knowledge with us.
.
Dottie we hope you are enjoying a good week of business and rest and we look forward to your return as the Voice of Zenyatta.
Gloria Jeanne
I got both my Zenny Litho and Secretariat/Zenyatta poster framed from my boyfriend on Valentine’s day. I was so surprised.
Delores
Hi Z, Hope all is going great with you. I have a picture of you on my screen saver at work and whenever anyone comes in the office they ask if you are my horse. I say I wished. Then I tell them all about you. Everyone at my work knows about Zenyatta because I am always talking about you. I have the picture of you and the one of you and Secretariet. Does anyone know of a good place to have them framed? I love you very much and waiting to hear the good news. XOXOXO to you and your team. I too have the picture of you

@ Happy Harriet,
.
Yes, stallion owners/syndicates can and do refuse mares. Most popular stallions are ‘over subscribed’ meaning that they accept more mare applications than the stallion will actually breed. This allows stallion managers to pick what they consider the best mares match wise for the stallion. Mares that are not accepted to a stallion’s book are often encouraged to go to another stallion on the roster, sometimes at a small reduction in fee to keep the business at the farm ;-)
.
You’ll find the higher class of stallion, often the harder book to get into if you don’t have a worthy mare. Some farms seem to have a policy of turning away no mare… though for the most part it’s not really true. Lower fee stallions who don’t get a full book you’ll find will probably accept most potential mares.

@ Ensign– As always, you provide excellent info– I studied the reproduction sites and its so interesting. Its really great that our pro’s are out here taking care of questions while Dottie is busy— Thanks to all. Now , back to Zenyaata’s classroom.

I bet Dottie and team are waiting for tomorrow’s big day before they post #101. they want to let us know the BIG surprise and that is for sure if Zenyatta is in foal with Baby Bernie. Lets all be waiting for the BIG news tomorrow ( Wed.).
Linda in NJ
@ Carolyn: I gave that a thought, but I seem to remember that someone mentioned that the annoucenment will not be made for 45 days out. I hope it’s tomorrow.
ENSIGN
@ Linda in NJ,
.
They can detect early pregnancy at 12+ days so they may announce that tomorrow or a day or so after.
Early pregnancy is just that though and a more important (and stable) milestone is the 45+ day mark. The pregnancy is far less likely to be reabsorbed or lost once it gets past that point.

Dearest, Zenyatta. Hope you have been having a grand time the past few days. I can’t wait to hear some “good” news from you soon, beautiful. What wonderful news from Rachel and Curlin. Congrats to their connections. Still planing my trip to Kentucky in July and of course praying to be able to meet you. Wishes never hurt. Sweet dreams, Zenny. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
@Shari Voltz – I know what you mean about the special connection. Thank you for everything :)
@Sharon Call – Hope your surgery went well and that our covergirl, Zenny, will be even more beautiful to you.
@Valeria Cannon – So glad you are back at home and recovering. How fantastic that you are planning a trip to the holy land of horses, Kentucky. The Derby, the farms, the horses, what fun you will have!!

Good Evening, Zetty
hope you had a pleasant day?! :)
I have one more names for your foal
how about
She Oughtta Be Outlawed
Question:
At the last race in Santa Anita, several horses bumped into each other, and one of them was found to have sustained cuts on its legs which are now infected. Is the horses in trouble now, will it be alright with anti-bi’s? Thanks
Well, Zetty, I’m glad your legs are fine and looking swell, and that you got through your racing life without any serious injuries :) :) :)
Good night and sweet dreams
Linda Clausen
Wow! What an awesome video! Thanks for the ride, Zenyatta!
