Good Morning,
I sincerely hope each of you had a lovely INDEPENDENCE DAY! Not only is it
a wonderful day to spend with family and friends…it is also so significant to remember
the true meaning of July 4th. It is important to reflect upon the history of our country
and appreciate the fact that we are so fortunate in so many ways!
I wanted to share this photo of MYSELF…even though it is not my “best” view….as
you can get an idea of how “I’m filling out a bit”. When I was racing, this is the side
I wanted everyone to see…as I ran past them to the finish line. Now it is interesting
to see from another point of view…my IN FOAL STATUS!
Dottie has requested that each month the farm keep her posted on my ‘weight’.
She wants to keep track of this with all of the other notes she maintains on my records.
Since I was bred on April 3rd, she feels the beginning of every month is the perfect time
to record this number. As soon as she hears the information from the farm, I know she will
share it with all of you.
The racing over the weekend was great fun. I know MY TEAM was very pleased with
Harmonious’ first race back. She finished beautifully in a very fast time yesterday…and
looked terrific. She really ran a wonderful race. My congratulations to all of the
winners over this holiday weekend.
I heard that it was really warm in California over the holiday, great swimming weather, and
it appeared to be a bit warm and rainy on the East Coast from all reports. It was rather
pleasant here in Kentucky. I truly enjoyed my time outdoors with my pals.
Enjoy your week and the ‘summer weather’.
With love,
Hugs to ALL~

Dear Signofthetimes:
The article I posted on Diary #288 from the DRF has a headline about Uncle Mo and included in it are a couple of sentences about R Heat Lighting. It’s the first article I found that referenced her since her surgery. Sorry, if I confused you. Hugs, J.B.

Zen, you look marvelous and always will! Quit worrying about the weight, and enjoy your motherhood. X & O’s for you!

WOW I don’t know how you guys do it but these links you all come up with are so wonderful. Thank you so much.

Dear Signofthetimes:
Love the link on Shutterfly and “Champions”. One of my favorites by Queen. Hugs, J.B.

I love you, Zenny, but please tell me why oh why Eblouissante was sold? Hasn’t she done enough for racing already? Why couldn’t she stay where she was? Why can’t she live where you live? I don’t get why horses are sold left and right like objects…she’s your mom and it would be great if you both were on the same farm. Tell me why I’m wrong!!!!

Happy Tuesday evening Zenny. caught up with everyone’s post and the racing that I had recorded from the 4th. Just needed to ask to see if anyone knows about Jersey Spirit who went down in the 12th race at Monmouth Park. Unfortunately, I believe I know the answer but didn’t hear or see anything on TVG or any website about him.
Great posts with wonderful links from everyone.
Have a great rest of the week Zenny, Teams Z and Z fans.
Lotsa love to all

Oh Queen, You look simply FABULOUS!!!!! You are such a wonderful animal!!! I can’t wait for that BABY to get here…..
LauraJ
@Barbara Grimaldi, you are thinking of Vertigineux, Z’s dam, right? (Eblouissante is her half sister.) She was probably sold because the offer was too good to pass up. I’m sure it was well into the millions. Even though he loves horses, V’s previous owner is not a hobbyist; he’s in the horse business to make money. We may not like it, but horses are legally livestock and property. Vertigineux is at Ashford rather than at Lane’s End because Ashford bought her and LE did not. However, you needn’t worry about her well being. Ashford Stud, part of the Coolmore empire, is a beautiful, professionally run farm. No doubt she is perfectly content. IIRC, some posts back Z’s people also visited Vertigineux. She was doing well. The Bloodhorse blog “behind the lens” featured her recently. Her pasture buddy is the great race mare Silverbulletday.

@Mary–I don’t claim to be an expert on pedigrees…far from it…but it’s as much art as science. In other words, there are no guarantees…we can all hope, and we do, that the Bernardini-Zenyatta cross is a winning one, but only time will tell. I hope & pray for a beautiful baby who turns out to have the will to win like his mom & dad.
LauraJ
I take that back–she is not buddies with Silverbulletday. I am sure she has one, though.
Liz
You look great big Mamma. Thanks for brightening my day.

Hi, Zenyatta. Do you think that you could give me a crash course on “the nick”. Looked like Rachel Alexandra had a higher rating than you, but Curlin’s score was lower than Bernardini’s. From what I understand it’s just one of the tools to have the highest chance of a successful foal. Right? Maybe Dottie can shed some light on this…(no pun intended…)

This youtube video is NOT about horses, however, it is a WONDERFUL video about people saving a Humpback Whale from dying! YES, from dying!!! I’m still crying at the shear beauty of this ~ please, sit back and enjoy this “happy ending” story! I think Zenny will be :-D too after watching…

@Eveline– funny that you should mention “Carrot for a Chestnut”. That is the story that I just finished reading!
Zenny–good night, precious girl. Can’t wait to see what you get into next. I still love that intent look (the last post) with which you were looking at the bag of carrots–that “keep your eye on the ball” look. Or “If I look at them long enough, maybe they will jump into my mouth”, all the while being perfectly mannerly about it. You are such fun! Love you always.

Hi Lady Z and Zen Family, hope all had a blessed and safe holiday weekend! Spent mine working but I did get to see a few races! :) Congrats to Harmie, what a great start to a new season, girl you rock! :) You’re big ‘brother’ Dyna King aka Gifted was truly proud to brag about his superstar ‘lil sis’! ;)
@sign of the times, and other who want to know about Uncle Mo, he has an official Repole webpage, http://www.unclemo.com and fb page where you can find out official info from the horse’s mouth, so to speak! :) As well as, info on WinStar fb and website. Hope this helps guys. Nitey night Queen Z, and oh yeah, now we get to see up close and personal, what Gio Ponti and the rest of the boys fell in love with (of course Bernie loves it!). :)
Peppermint kisses and carrot dreams, beautiful mama….

For those asking about R Heat Lightning, she also has a fb page, and is now at WinStar with Uncle Mo. She is supposedly travelling back to New York along with Uncle Mo. Isn’t it interesting that they went to Kentucky together for the Derby and the Oaks, and now are coming back home together! :)

Hi Zenny, you are so cute. I just love your rear angle. Glad to see you are filling out and doing well. WE here all had a good Fourth of July and glad to see that you did to. They are really promoteing Ebby and I know they feel she will be much like you and we will see when she is ready to race. I know there will never be another you my sweet Zenyatta. I dont believe that any racehorse has your dancing ability to begin with. I will follow Ebby and wish her the best when she starts racing. Stay happy , keep eating and I send you Love and Kisses Zen.

Thoughts aloft to Pat Beck, as NM fought 7-8 scary fires these past weeks & Los Alamos folk faced this thing before, stoically, with such good humor. — Dear ‘Z`s’ — (re: comments and notes) fun, informative & flying, seem a lot like geometric aerial string-art. W/ my several misspellings, and an error or two, will pause awhile & step back; plus, it got late and dark early here for some reason.?! ~ For your notes . .. appreciate how they wash clear. Remarkable place: dear `Z`s vibes to credit. ‘And to all a good`night.’

Awwwe….Zenyatta you look absolutely beautiful: ) Now just like you always do and always will…can’t wait until that baby gets here so exciting waiting with you.

My last trip to Hollywood Park was in June of last year. I went to see Zenyatta race in the Vanity. I’m going back this week for the Gold Cup and the Swaps Stakes. No Zenyatta and it’s bittersweet.

Looking good!
