Happy March Madness to Everyone!
As you all know, I am a huge SPORTS FAN! I have always loved competition and being an athlete…so I admire people who do the WORK it takes to perform at a HIGH LEVEL in athletic competition. I love SPORTS! March is particularly fun as it is the beginning of March Madness in College Basketball. Dottie printed out the GRID for me to follow the games. What a great time!
The teams who play around my BARN 55 home are UCLA and USC. San Diego State seems to be a team to really follow this year. They look to be one of the top contenders. Many sportscasters feel they can make it to the FINAL FOUR. Their campus is located a bit down the freeway from Del Mar where I’ve raced in the summer. Such FUN!
Now, living in Kentucky I have noticed that this is a real BASKETBALL STATE. Between the University of Kentucky Wildcats and the University of Louisville Cardinals, there is always some great basketball to follow. So, in your free time, print your grid…and enjoy the games.
I’ll be watching and following MARCH MADNESS with all of my friends here at Lane’s End. I know Dottie and John will be doing the same at home! Since I’m a HORSE and don’t have an Alma Mater to cheer for…I will be following my HOME teams…both CA and KY. Good Luck to each participant in the Tournament! Work hard and remember to have fun with it!
On another note, I wanted to take a few moments and answer some of your questions. I asked my Lane’s End friends about LIFE IS SWEET! She has not foaled yet. Due soon…but no baby yet. I’ll keep you posted. She is in foal to Smart Strike! Hooves Crossed for my dear friend and her soon-to-be foal!
For those of you who inquired about the Diary Entry numbers, the first set went from # 1-100. This series is beginning with #201 and moving forward. I just wanted to set this group apart from the first one. It is an entirely different series to capture a new chapter in my life. For those of you who asked about this…you did not miss any of them. You are TOO CUTE and VERY SWEET to ask!
Also, I’d like to thank Mathea Kelley for the piece she did in THE BLOODHORSE about ME titled “ZENYATTA LOOKING GOOD”! The photos are fabulous, in my opinion. (Blush, Blush!) I think I look really PLAYFUL in my cute snowy whiskers close-up and then very sophisticated and dignified in several of the other photos. I hope you enjoy them!

We are working on the Z pins and continuing to work out things on the web-site to make it EASIER and FUN for you. We are trying hard to FIX the INTERNET/FACEBOOK problem for you. Thanks for your patience!
Have a wonderful day! Get out your grids and be picking YOUR TEAMS! Who do you think will make it to the FINAL FOUR…and then WIN it ALL? SUCH FUN!
With love,
Hugs to ALL~

@Janet Cuttings,
I worked for a small nursery way back when and 4 of our 5 mares were absolute sweeties and were fine with our personnel handling their babies. The 5th mare was an expert’s horse period and when she had a foal on her only the broodmare manager and his immediate assistant handled her or her baby.
We had a mare boarding, a favor to a friend sort of thing and all the mares and foals were out in the paddock soaking up the sunshine one afternoon. The teenage daughter of the ‘friend’ showed up unannounced and decided she was going to go out in the field and play with her new baby.
Luckily she managed to wedge herself between the water trough and the corner of the paddock when mare #5 took exception to this stranger being in the paddock with them and went after her. We had to break the boards to the fence to pull her the rest of the way out of the field.

What a great post. Horses make friends like humans
In their own way and come and go in and out
Of their friends lives. It is important to always leave
Two together as they are herd animals. My TB got
So upset that he was left alone that he could not be
Ridden one day.
@L
Great analogy. Mama mare and mama bear. Most females
Of any species will aggressively protect their young. Will be
Interesting to Z ‘s personality change. Foals are very cute
But worse than puppies. They can get in soooo much trouble

@Kathryn: Thanks for pointing us to Karina Bussell video of “Joy to the World.” That was great and lots of fun!

Such lovely and lively posts today. All are a joy to read.
Zenyatta, you are a lucky girl, and we are so lucky to know you. Love you always and HUGS TO ALL, as you would say.

Each mare has a different personality when it comes to their foals. I’ve had a mare that was comfortable to have me in her stall right after she foaled and allowed me to handle the foal immediately.
She was calm with people and so was her foal. The makes life so much easier for horse and human. Sometimes mares have a very protective nature and prefer not to have much human contact with the foal.
My guess would be that Zenny (after she figures out what has happened) will be the kind mare since she loves human contact so much. She has been lucky enough to have positive experiences with people so I would think that would help in handling her baby. The mare’s temperment has so much to do with how the foal reacts.

@ShariV Oh, I’m so happy you might be able to use that idea. Yea!

Good evening Zenyatta,
hope your day went swell. Looks like they might be able to get the electrical components going and also start the cooling in the reactor. Thumbs (uo p)up :) :) :)
I thought they did pretty well with you at Lane’s End, first rate outfit, you always look great, the last pics are telling the tale. You’re one fab mare :)
What would the whisperer have to whisper to you , huh? Could he even reach your ear, I think (0)you’re way over 6 ft, that ‘s got (x(tp) to be one tall whisperer. Sorry, about the writing, but I seem to have trouble staying on the page tonight :) Are you experiencing problems ? You’re looking pretty carefree to me(e). Or may be that’s just a sly way to get by the security and see you :) can’t blame aby there, you’re one swell looking stunner. One look at you and that whisperer would forget to whisper and start holl(o0)ering, whoohoo, get a look at her, what a gorgeous girl. :) :) :) Everybody knows you, everybody wants to meet you.

Dearest Sweet “Z”,
Your ‘commissioned artist’ Nina Kaiser is a true blessing. For those who would like a little “Z”, she is only asking for half down now, and the remainder 4-8 weeks when the bronze is ready to be shipped. The ripples of goodness from your circle keep flowing. Many thanks, for with love, all things are possible. Darla

Hi Lady Z and the extended Zen family, hope all is well with everyone! Despite the world (especially Japan) being topsy turvy right now, it is good to know that there’s a place we can go where the common denominator is Love! Barbara Wood, I pray that your surgery goes well and your recuperation is swift. Kathryn keep your beautiful words coming, we all need them in these trying times. Shari Volz, keep the children interested and involved with our beautiful Lady Z, for when kids care about other living creatures they grow up to be caring human beings. To all the new members of our growing family, welcome!!! May we all keep the Japanese people in our prayers as they presevere through the calamity that has befallen them. Rememeber, to treat one another as we would want to be treated and the way the Queen treats us all with love and respect, she is a true ambassador of all that is good in the world. We are truly blessed to have her and Team Z (1 and 2) in our lives, each member has gone beyond the call of duty in allowing us the honor of being part of her world. Let us all remember that it is Zenyatta’s world we’ve been given the priviledge to intrude upon, and as honored guests we most behave as such. Dottie and John, words cannont begin to express the gratitude of you taking so much time out of your busy schedule (especially this time of year) to teach us all who Zenyatta is and the knowledge of the thoroughbred racehorse. And to all the experienced horse people on the website, thank you for sharing with us newbies your knowledge of the horse. We all are learning from one another (young and old) and that’s a mighty beautiful thing to have happen, all because of the love of one horse, Zenyatta!!
Hugs and Kisses to All!!!

As far as you go, Zenyatta, take care of yourself, indulge in the love that is showered upon you every day & may you always have joy!

@ Signofthetimes, thank you for your kind words. I really like your post too. I love Zenyatta so much and I am so THANKFUL for The Mosses who are the best owners in the world and have honored & truly appreciated how vey special Zenyatta is to everyone to share her, The Sherriffs, John who trains each horse with love & care & had the knowledge to let Zenyatta mature and let her decide when she was at her peak to race, Dottie who blesses us with Zenyatta’s words & thoughts with the wonderful posts, for Mario & Carmen, he took extra care to make sure she looked her best to dance to each race, Carmen walked her with care, Mike who rode her & protected her on the track to keep her safe & win and all of Team Z who took care of her so she would be comfortable & happy while she exceled in her career. Zenyatta is that one in a million horse that everyone hopes to see in their lifetime with her fabulous career and to retire without any health issues to relax and enjoy herself as a horse and move to her next chapter in her life to be probably be broodmare of the year with a foal that will be blessed with all the qualities of both Zenyatta & Bernadini to be a superhorse too! I truly love this horse and she makes me smile just to think of her & relive the memories she has given me watching her race. Zenyatta has all the qualities that make her a complete racehorse. I always send Hugs & Kisses to Her From Alabama With Love. I hope & pray one day when she is in the next chapter of her life after being a broodmare that I just get to see her once in the pasture enjoying being a horse, That would truly be a blessing to see The Great Zenyatta!
@Signofthetimes, Zenyatta means so much to me for what she has contributed to my life. Thinking of you Zenyatta & wishing you the best, Amanda G.

Happy St. Paddy’s
to ya, Zetty :) :) :)
Time for Guinness and oats, put on your dancing wraps and let’s go and do the strut, in a jig fashion, in honor of Street Cry’s heritage today. I bet you put on a mean jig. What seemed to look promising in yesterday’s accounts is all but lost this morning. Just heard all the water is gone from the reactor, which is needed to cool the rods, that means melt down, disputed by the Japanese government.
This is no time to play politics, fess up and get going, protect the population & environments. Too bad, what a disappointment, what a disaster.
Celebrate today, for who knows what lurks in tomorrow’s shadows. Hoo Hoo
Have a swell day, and sing a few lovely Irish tunes.
Shari Voltz
Good morning sweet girl. Happy St. Patrick’s Day. The children are all wearing green. It is fun to teach this age group. Miss Zenyatta some of my students are going to write stories about you. Another fan Regina gave me that idea. When I asked the children they were excited and I even have one young lady who turned her story in this morning. I hope you and baby are feeling fine. The sun is shining and it looks to be a beautiful day. So you and the girls enjoy it. The children and I love you very much. Hugs and and kisses from Shari and Homeroom 215 in Ohio XXXOOO

Thank you for posting Berni link. OMG, was getting excited just thinking the potential a Z/Bernie baby will be gifted with. He too has that intelligent look. His walk, the ears…..what a match!

@Sunny Boyd:
+++1 on your post. It makes me so anxious just thinking of what the Japanese people are enduring. The grief, sorrow and uncertainty they are facing. Unimaginable.
.
This video touched my heart. A testament that animals hold similar feelings as we humans..love.

Just wanted to ask if anyone has noticed that some of the older videos of Zenyatta’s races have been taken down and you can’t watch them now. Under Racing Fans link at the top of Zenyatta’s page.
I love watching the replays and was disappointed this morning that some had been taken down, not all of them but some of them. Love you Zenyatta!
