Happy March Madness to Everyone!
As you all know, I am a huge SPORTS FAN! I have always loved competition and being an athlete…so I admire people who do the WORK it takes to perform at a HIGH LEVEL in athletic competition. I love SPORTS! March is particularly fun as it is the beginning of March Madness in College Basketball. Dottie printed out the GRID for me to follow the games. What a great time!
The teams who play around my BARN 55 home are UCLA and USC. San Diego State seems to be a team to really follow this year. They look to be one of the top contenders. Many sportscasters feel they can make it to the FINAL FOUR. Their campus is located a bit down the freeway from Del Mar where I’ve raced in the summer. Such FUN!
Now, living in Kentucky I have noticed that this is a real BASKETBALL STATE. Between the University of Kentucky Wildcats and the University of Louisville Cardinals, there is always some great basketball to follow. So, in your free time, print your grid…and enjoy the games.
I’ll be watching and following MARCH MADNESS with all of my friends here at Lane’s End. I know Dottie and John will be doing the same at home! Since I’m a HORSE and don’t have an Alma Mater to cheer for…I will be following my HOME teams…both CA and KY. Good Luck to each participant in the Tournament! Work hard and remember to have fun with it!
On another note, I wanted to take a few moments and answer some of your questions. I asked my Lane’s End friends about LIFE IS SWEET! She has not foaled yet. Due soon…but no baby yet. I’ll keep you posted. She is in foal to Smart Strike! Hooves Crossed for my dear friend and her soon-to-be foal!
For those of you who inquired about the Diary Entry numbers, the first set went from # 1-100. This series is beginning with #201 and moving forward. I just wanted to set this group apart from the first one. It is an entirely different series to capture a new chapter in my life. For those of you who asked about this…you did not miss any of them. You are TOO CUTE and VERY SWEET to ask!
Also, I’d like to thank Mathea Kelley for the piece she did in THE BLOODHORSE about ME titled “ZENYATTA LOOKING GOOD”! The photos are fabulous, in my opinion. (Blush, Blush!) I think I look really PLAYFUL in my cute snowy whiskers close-up and then very sophisticated and dignified in several of the other photos. I hope you enjoy them!

We are working on the Z pins and continuing to work out things on the web-site to make it EASIER and FUN for you. We are trying hard to FIX the INTERNET/FACEBOOK problem for you. Thanks for your patience!
Have a wonderful day! Get out your grids and be picking YOUR TEAMS! Who do you think will make it to the FINAL FOUR…and then WIN it ALL? SUCH FUN!
With love,
Hugs to ALL~

Oh WOW! I just checked my FACEBOOK PAGE. I have over 69,000 FRIENDS. I am SO EXCITED!
Karen
Dearest Zenyatta,
I loved seeing all the gorgeous photos of you. You get more beautiful all the time, if that is possible. You are such a Regal beauty. You are always in my heart.
Tory
Queen Z – always LOOKIN’ GOOD! (and too cute)
Dani
Well Z – have they fitted your barn-mates with pom-poms for the games? As you are more of a jock you will probably be doing the slam dunk imitations when your teams pull one off. Or maybe a hoof pump and a nicker! Although I am not a basketball fan (hockey is my game – Go Washington Capitals!), because I adore you and Dottie and John so much, I will make a pact and watch the Final Four. It’s kind of like the Triple Crown of college basketball isn’t it? Hope you all have fun with your grids and your teams.
…….
Let our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Japan whose situation becomes more dire and frightening by the day. Please consider giving whatever you can to help them. The Red Cross and Save The Children are just two possibilities. Truly, truly it will make a difference as thousands are in such terrible need of just the basics. Thank you.

To Kitel: Thank you for the fascinating article about mare’s milk. I hope that mares’ milk does not become a Fordist (industrial-like) production, the way cows’ millk has. Or the estrogen rich urine of pregnant mares, used for the birth control pill Premarin.
On a lighter and even transhuman/animal boundary note: “Dr Rene Madeleyn, of the pediatric department at the Filder Hospital in Stuttgart, said: “Mare’s milk has many antibodies that help neutralise bacteria and viruses. It is the closest animal milk to human milk. We often give it to premature babies to increase strength and immunity.”
Imagine! Mares’ milk is “the closest animal milk to human milk.” Long ago in Diary Post #33, I spoke highly of the joy that can come from suckling a young one, unknowing that the streams of mother mares’ and mother humans’ milk almost come from a common source. If anyone looks askance at me (as many have—good naturedly) for “writing to a horse” as I describe it, I have no need any longer to explain myself other than to say our milk is kin—we have a milk bond.
Zenyatta most lovely one: When you often say in one form or another, “Since I’m a HORSE . . .” (as you do today) a certain playful delight suffuses me. Those words almost have as much power as photos of you do. A HORSE—your self-recognition of species difference contradicts the fact that you speak about it in HUMAN words! Cause for wonderment and hilarity all mixed up together.
As for the photos on Bloodhorse—they are, as you say, at once playful, sophisticated, and dignified. I particularly liked today’s photo on the Diary Post. Besides your radiant coat and inescapable beauty, you look calm as befits the new chapter in your life.
Linda from Vermont
Love the photos and I’m so glad your post showed up on my facebook!

Question for anyone who would know………around how much weight will Zenyatta gain and does she lose it all right after she has the foal or does it take awhile?
God Bless Her – She is so dear to us All!!
jeanie langford
You look so wonderful. I just wish we could have more video. I know visits will be out of the questions, but a little live action would be nice. Are any of your pasture mates in foal? Hugs and Kisses
Paula Higgins
The Bloodhorse article is wonderful!! Absolutely loved the pitures. My favorite was the one with the snowy whiskers. What a hoot! As for basketball, the last time I watched professional basketball was when Bird and Magic had their rivalry. THAT was great basketball. But I like the college temas better than the pros now.
Shizuka, still thinking of you and the Japanese people.
Quarterhossgal
Zenny….you look stunning in today’s photo. You look like you have shed out already. My 3 horses still have some winter coat that seems to land on me as I brush them each day. I don’t plan to show this season so there is no rush! Your love of sports never ceases to surprise me, the greatest female athlete of the racing world loves basketball!

Really enjoy this diary of yours Zenyatta! Tell Dottie she is doing an absolutely fantastic job-what would we do without her?
Really like all the pics of you Zenyatta, in the BH Looking through the lens blog-you sure look exceptionally well and they must be taking excellent care of you there at Lane’s End. You look so healthy and happy and that puts my mind at ease. Just want the best for you and want you to be comfortable, happy and loved.
Glad to hear that you are a sports fan too and hope you enjoy rooting for your teams.
Take care and keep on enjoying the good life.
Love & Blessings to you!

Well, Z, I guess your Alma Mater is Barn 55. ;) Thanks for mentioning the numbers 100 and 200 series. That makes a lot of sense because this is truly a new Chapter in your life. Thanks again for all the hard work you and Dottie put into keeping your Diary updated. Dottie is the best!
Dawn Conrad
Dearest, Zenyatta. I hope the teams that you, Lane’s End and Team Z support during March Madness give you a great deal of excitment and WIN, WIN, WIN!! With your build, moves and ability to handle whole pears, you could have been a cross-over star in basketball yourself, Miss Z. From the picture above, it appears you are dropping your winter coat and getting your beautiful dapples back. Absolutely loved all the shots from Mathea Kelley, how lucky to get to spend the day with you. A dream come true for most of us. Thanks for the info on LIS. I hope she has an uneventful delivery and both she and the foal are well. I have seen some of the results involving some other youngsters, at the latest 2 year olds in training sale. Just gorgeous. Has David been busy lining up prospects for Jerry and Ann? I hope so. Dottie, I cannot say “thank you” to often for everything you do on our behalf and for keeping our wonderful diary alive and well. Say hello to Miss Sophie. And tell everyone involved how much we appreciate the work on the Z pin. My prayers continue to go out to all of those facing ongoing hardships in Japan. Sweet dreams, to you Zenny. Hugs and kisses as always. XXXOOO
@Shari Voltz – Thank you! I love the book idea. It could lead to a complete series: The Many Adventures of Zenyatta and Friends. How fun! :)
Shema
Dear pretty girl, I just watched again your video at Lane’s End Dec 22 2010. How I love to watch you in that video! I especially feel joy watching you gallop and run in your paddock. (it’s the video on the Bloodhorse website. Happy hugs to you sweet girl.
Oh, by the way, I was wondering, have you started thinking about teaching your babies the Zenyatta dance and telling them about how you endeared your fans to you with your dance!
Jenna
I love the photos in Blood-Horse. LOVED them. I want all of them. I’m glad everyone’s getting psyched for March Madness.
Zenyatta looks beautiful in the photo above. Just this gorgeous being. I’m glad this long winter is over and she can enjoy the warm sunshine and longer days.
Thank you so much, Dottie, for everything that you are and do.
Zendotti!!
Nighty night. Sleep tight.

Good Evening Queen “Z”. Being a California Girl I have to root all the way California teams. Even it means rooting for San Diego! I loved the article and pictures in Bloodhorse. Read it yesterday. Cute wiskers! Thanks Dottie for always keeping us fans up to speed.

I printed my NCAA grid yesterday. I’m looking at Louisville, Ohio St, North Carolina, and UCLA. My husband is big on Kentucky, Florida, San Diego St, and Kansas. It’s so much fun to watch the series. Loved the pictures of you from The Blood-Horse. Thank you Dottie for making this possible. You are “too cute.”
Janet
Hi Zenny – I love the photos and article posted. I can never get tired of looking at you. Thanks for sharing. Hugs and kisses to you my beautiful mama-to-be.

GO UCLA!
Loved the picture of you with snow on your nose. Will order it in a day or so, I wanted to check with a few friends and see if they wanted one also. You sure have many, many fans. I think your the most beloved of alltime.
Sunny Boyd
Good evening, Zenyatta
I see you’re doing well and judging from the Bloodhorse pics are quite the stunner still.
I just want to give the Navy guys, who are working in hazardous areas in Japan a huge hand. I heard on the news that they’re aiding the population effected. They’re right in the middle of it now. Hope they all make it out okay & healthy, and that the Japanese experts are able to ice those reactors as quickly as possible.
I think once they’re able to do that, the Japanese people will recover, they are survivors. May be this is a stern warning to think about changing energy sources.
Well, Zenyatta sleep tight & dreams of mints, carrots, and nanas.

Luv the article, luv the pictures, LUV ZENYATTA!!! Thanks for sharing with us, we all miss Zenyatta so much! XXOXX

Zenny,
That frozen whiskers picture is too much.I am still laughing.
Holly Zemba
Thanks for the explanation on the diary post numbers I thought I missed some too.
Barbara Wood
Good night, precious Z. I keep looking back at today’s picture. Your coat looks lovely. Even down here in Texas, our horses still have their partially shaggy coats, and it’s much colder up there.
This diary means so much to all who enter here in peace and civility. Blessings, everyone, and Z, love you always.
Shirley Donoho
Your photos in Bloodshot.com are just the greatest! It’s hard to choose one from the other because you look so gorgeous in all the photos. But I have to admit that I couldn’t recognize you from the rear of all those horses together. I, too, really enjoyed the one with the frozen whiskers. You don’t look like a California Girl in that one. Love you, Zenny
