Happy March Madness to Everyone!
As you all know, I am a huge SPORTS FAN! I have always loved competition and being an athlete…so I admire people who do the WORK it takes to perform at a HIGH LEVEL in athletic competition. I love SPORTS! March is particularly fun as it is the beginning of March Madness in College Basketball. Dottie printed out the GRID for me to follow the games. What a great time!
The teams who play around my BARN 55 home are UCLA and USC. San Diego State seems to be a team to really follow this year. They look to be one of the top contenders. Many sportscasters feel they can make it to the FINAL FOUR. Their campus is located a bit down the freeway from Del Mar where I’ve raced in the summer. Such FUN!
Now, living in Kentucky I have noticed that this is a real BASKETBALL STATE. Between the University of Kentucky Wildcats and the University of Louisville Cardinals, there is always some great basketball to follow. So, in your free time, print your grid…and enjoy the games.
I’ll be watching and following MARCH MADNESS with all of my friends here at Lane’s End. I know Dottie and John will be doing the same at home! Since I’m a HORSE and don’t have an Alma Mater to cheer for…I will be following my HOME teams…both CA and KY. Good Luck to each participant in the Tournament! Work hard and remember to have fun with it!
On another note, I wanted to take a few moments and answer some of your questions. I asked my Lane’s End friends about LIFE IS SWEET! She has not foaled yet. Due soon…but no baby yet. I’ll keep you posted. She is in foal to Smart Strike! Hooves Crossed for my dear friend and her soon-to-be foal!
For those of you who inquired about the Diary Entry numbers, the first set went from # 1-100. This series is beginning with #201 and moving forward. I just wanted to set this group apart from the first one. It is an entirely different series to capture a new chapter in my life. For those of you who asked about this…you did not miss any of them. You are TOO CUTE and VERY SWEET to ask!
Also, I’d like to thank Mathea Kelley for the piece she did in THE BLOODHORSE about ME titled “ZENYATTA LOOKING GOOD”! The photos are fabulous, in my opinion. (Blush, Blush!) I think I look really PLAYFUL in my cute snowy whiskers close-up and then very sophisticated and dignified in several of the other photos. I hope you enjoy them!

We are working on the Z pins and continuing to work out things on the web-site to make it EASIER and FUN for you. We are trying hard to FIX the INTERNET/FACEBOOK problem for you. Thanks for your patience!
Have a wonderful day! Get out your grids and be picking YOUR TEAMS! Who do you think will make it to the FINAL FOUR…and then WIN it ALL? SUCH FUN!
With love,
Hugs to ALL~

Oh WOW! I just checked my FACEBOOK PAGE. I have over 69,000 FRIENDS. I am SO EXCITED!

Hi Queen Baby Moma,
You are looking so good in the photos you included today. The snow on your nose is the best one I think. Don’t forget after basketball the arena football league is back in action. The AFL games are loads of fun to watch. love you Baby Moma

I loved your photos on Bloodhorse. You are the most gorgeous animal that ever lived in my opinion. I hope you are enjoying the beginning of spring and the first of the bluegrass(yum-yum) along with your bananas. Congrats to John with Cloud Man and Mike with Joyful Victory. I went to Oaklawns website and the first thing to pop up is a beautiful picture of you winning the Apple Blossom. Well I have to run, Take care of yourself and your tiny dancer. Love Ya Lori

Dearest Zenny, I saw the pictures from Bloodhorse taken by Mathea Kelly and I thought they were all very good. Will be anxious to see more. Keep us posted about that. Glad to know you are ready for March Madness. You are the best Athlete of all and no one can make me see differently. Wish we could be seeing you race again but because we cant we will have to depend on all recent pictures of you as we go along because it helps to feel that you are still with us. Thanks to all at Lanes end for being cooperative when Mathea was there to do the photography on you. It is well appreciated by all. Keep you eyes on the games Zenny and enjoy yourself you beautiful Queen Z. Love you.

Dear Zenyatta, I agree with everyone here that I have never seen a “bad” photo of you, gorgeous girl, but I did cast my vote for the Frozen Whiskers picture as the best of the article in the Bloodhorse. Although we have had enough of winter here in Ohio, I do like the snow on your muzzle.
And as far as March Madness goes, I am happy to hear you are taking your brackets seriously ! Since you are such a great athlete, I know you understand how hard all of these young people work at their sport, and appreciate their efforts.
Although I live in Columbus, Ohio, I went to the Sister School across the road from Notre Dame, a hundred years ago, when ND was an all-male school, and so am a die-hard Notre Dame fan, basketball, football, and even hockey ! Go Irish, especially since they play on St. Patrick’s Day.
Hugs to all.

Pretty pictures of a fabulous horse. Love you girl! You’re a gift from heaven..oxoxxoxo

Whiskers picture is adorable!
We need a “Zenyatta” pin, not just a “Z”.
What do you think? Better yet, a pin of Zenyatta dancing? Hooves up, Hugs and Prayers

Yeah also to Iditarod lead dogs, Snickers and Velvet. These canine athletes are almost as impressive as YOU.
Luna

The pictures are all fabulous. I especially like the one of you strolling and chilling with the gals.Seems like Lane’s End is doing a fantastic job keeping you happy and healthy.I live in Houston and will get a chance to see the final four teams practice at Reliant stadium on your BD.I’m thinking the final four will be Ohio State, Duke, Kansas and Florida.Go Blue Devils. :)

Dear Momma Z, Sorry HOY but I don’t pay attention to college basketball. So looking forward to the Derby etc… I love Life is Sweet since John showed her snoozing in her stall! Just a precious beautiful girl and BFF! I hope we can see a photo of her with her foal!! Now that excites me!! I don’t know if my alma mater is included in this…?? Univ of Miami!!!
Hugs and Love!
Nancy McNaul Applegate
Kirren Dolan, you said it exactly! it IS comforting to see how well she is cared for, because it comes from the devotion that the Mosses have for her. it speaks volumes, doesn’t it?

@ Luna,
.
Life is Sweet was checked in foal to Smart Strike April last year. A mare’s gestation runs approx. 11 months, some a few weeks less, some as much as a month more, so a full year (though that’s less common).
.
As was mentioned above, no, horses do not experience morning sickness ;-)
.
Most mares also do not require any major change in their diets until they’re in their 3rd and final trimester of pregnancy. Up to that point most are on a ‘maintenance diet’ unless their condition warrants otherwise.

So glad, Queen Z, that you’re following the NCAA tournament this year. Thanks for mentioning my favorite team and alma mater, San Diego State! We have a great team this year that has been(in my opinion) a little under appreciated. We could use some Zenyatta magic on our side in the tournament! Love you always…

Glad to hear that you have not lost your zest for sports. I am looking forward to hearing the details about your pin. This may be the start of another career for you – celebrity jewelry. Please remember that some of your fans were foaled like Smart Strike in Canada. We would like to buy your pin too. Stay well, beautiful Queen.
Celeste
Zenyatta, you just keep getting more and more beautiful in every new photo we see. Thank you for the new diary post and the photo, as well as the link the the great new pictures on The Bloodhorse, too. Thank you, Team Z – you are all the best!!
Karey R
@Regina from NJ: I’m so GLAD you found the print of ‘our dancing queen’ and that you LOVE it. Woohoo! Isn’t it AMAZING?!? Instead of having them frame it, I had them send the print because I wanted to be at the frame shop to see all the choices first hand. The print, the horse, the energy and movement are even better in person. I think you will be thrilled.
Let me know what you decide to do!
Sally (B)
My sweet lovely Z!! I just love to hear from you and looked at Mathea’s photos–Oh, Z, everything about you is so special. I told my friend I have more of you on my wall than I do my own grandkids!! ha But, I get to see them more often; play, hug & kiss em. If I could only do that with you Z!! Life is Sweet will be in my thoughts-hoovescrossed too. God bless you Z. love, and 2 kisses on your soft nose.

ShariV – What did you think of Regina NJ’s
idea of having your kids write the story of “Zenyatta and the Three Mares”? It’s a very appealing idea and I can’t wait to hear it!!
Sue Fredrick
Wow Zen, you look like a million bucks in this photo, pregnancy really agrees with you! I am from Wisconsin so I will be rooting for the Badgers, of course, but I don’t always watch a lot of it(more of a football and horseracing girl). I am praying for the people of Japan….so sad….and of course all of the horses there so they don’t get any radiation. Well luv to all and kisses on your nose.
Bobbi
Great shots, Miss Z! Love “frozen whiskers”!
Samantha
My dear Queen you look FABULOUS!!!!
Paul
Zenyatta, you mentioned that you were a big sports fan so I’m not surprised that you are looking forward to the NCAA Tournament. I’m sure that California and Kentucky teams will do well this year. Ohio State and Duke will as well-no surprise for Duke-they’re used to winning. Congratulations to the other horses at Lane’s End Farm who are in foal. I hope they’re taking care of themselves and that you’re taking care of yourself. May all the births of foals be successful ones.
Shema
Z, I just went to the Through The Lens blog and saw your pictures. How wonderful to get more a glimpse of your daily routines. I just treasure each one of your photos!
I was on YouTube earlier today watching a replay of Secretariat’s Belmont run. I was crying it was so spectacular. You know, your little one is going to have Secretariat blood cuz of Bernardini. Oh Zen, you’re a gift to us that just keeps on giving. I hope you’re feeling our love for you!
Linda in Fla.
Those Kentucky roots run deep and strong so I’m not surprised that you’re rooting for the Wildcats. Me too. They have almost as loyal a following as you, and that’s saying something. Loved the picture of you and your friends being taken out to pasture.
Shari Voltz
Dear Zenyatta I love ALL pictures of you. YOU are so BEAUTIFUL. I have a couple of pictures in my classroom. Your web site is up all day on my computer and your pictures hang in my home. I will never get tired of looking at your beautiful face. I emailed Sarah about your birthday gift from the children and me. We are so excited for you to get it. It will come April 1. One of your fans gave me a great idea for extra credit or maybe a little language arts project. Zenyatta and the Three Mares written as a story. I LOVE IT! Great idea from REGINA from NJ. I know some of the children will enjoy that. I teach social studies now but taught special education language arts for over 25 years so I could use this idea as extra credit :) Well sweet girl I have some work to do. I love you and send many hugs and kisses from Shari from Ohio XXXOOO
@Regina thank you for the idea :)
@Hi Dawn just thinking about you. God Bless :)
