Not only does Sergio de Sousa keep Cozmic One happy and healthy at his farm, he goes out of his way to share updates with us. Here’s a glimpse into Coz’s birthday morning at De Sousa Stables.
Hi all,
Did you see this great news about this year’s nominees to the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame?
Six racehorses, four trainers, and one jockey account for the 11 finalists that will comprise the National Museum of Racing’s 2022 Hall of Fame ballot, as chosen by the Museum’s Hall of Fame Nominating Committee.
The finalists are racehorses Beholder (first year of eligibility), Blind Luck, Havre de Grace, Kona Gold, Rags to Riches, and Tepin (first year of eligibility); trainers Christophe Clement, Graham Motion, Doug O’Neill, and John Shirreffs; and jockey Corey Nakatani.
Dear Sandy,
Thanks for posting this news. That’s quite a stellar group of horses and people! What an outstanding list of accomplishments! Good luck to all —
they all belong in the Hall of Fame, I think. 🥰
Hugs and Love
Thanks Sandy,
Gotta go with Beholder as the racehorse! There are some good trainers in there. Our John should win because of the wonderful job he did with Zenyatta. And she retired sound!
Best of luck to all.
Good racing this weekend. I am really watching for Sweet Dani Girl in the Davona Dale. Sire is Jess’s Dream son of Rachel and Curlin. I have never been able or want to choose between Zenyatta and Rachel! It is okay to love them both!
Good luck to Jess’s little girl.
Happy Friday everyone!
Just a short note from Hovis today as he didn’t feel that reports of high jinx were appropriate given the sad state of world affairs. He’s started a fund raising effort for the Ukraine, and from past experience, I can tell you that the accept PayPal (at least they have in the past).
Such a big weekend of racing ahead! Just read that 3 of the Derby prep races can be seen on CNBC and also streamed on nbcsports.com and the nbc sports app. Having a hard time picking horses myself. Seems like fewer standouts this year, and things are more complicated given the uncertain status of the Baffert horses. Really looking forward to Express Train in the Santa Anita HDCP. Maybe a star will emerge this weekend?🤞🤞
Dear Sandy,
Thanks for the Hovis report this week. “Peculiar” is a very kind word to use in describing human creatures, but his observations regarding kindness and violence/evil are spot-on.
Thank you Hovis and Karen for organizing a fundraiser for Ukraine — you are my heroes!
Hugs and Love
Dear Judy and Ann,
This defies all that is humane, moral and just.
There oughta be a law — how many more innocents have to die horrible deaths before the “most intelligent” of animals wake up and do what’s right?
Please stop the cruelty, ASAP.

Dear Judy,
Thanks so much for the replay of the Santa Anita Handicap! Congrats to Express Train, Victor Espinoza, John Shirreffs, the Searings and all connections!! What a determined effort from ET! Also, Warrant with FP aboard ran an outstanding and close second, Kudos!
Hugs and Love, 🏇 ❤️ 🏇
What a great win for Express Train and all of his connections!! TVG interviewed John right after the race, and I have never seen hm so jubilant!! (Hard to see anything actually through my happy tears). Hope the HOF voters took notice😊👏👏🎉👏👏
Congrats to John and Express Train. He really hung in there.
What about Forbidden Kingdom? Looks a lot like dad! I hope he keeps doing well for Mr. Mandella, a kind great trainer.
We had tornado warnings at 3 am. My neighbor called to tell me since I was sleeping through it. Thankfully, just thunder storms and a little wind and hail.
My horse with My Racehorse is just 2 and from what they tell me a late bloomer. He is a very handsome guy. Just hope he stays healthy and can run a little faster than I can. Classic Cut.

Dear Shirlee:
All the best to Classic Cut; healthy and sound. Godspeed. Love and Hugs, JB
Shame on Victor for striking him too much! It landed him a fine! This was not his first nor his last, I fear. If I were a trainer, I would never use Victor. JS uses him all the time. Bad habits are hard to let go of. Shameful all around!
RIP Strike the Tiger, Modesto and Hootenanny
These three died Sunday afternoon in a fire at Wesley Ward’s barn. The fire apparently was caused by a lightning strike. Strike the Tiger was 15 years old and was Ward’s first Ascot winner. Now the gelding accompanied Ward’s horses to Ascot as a pony. Modesto was 5, and Hootenanny was only 2.
Condolences to WW and all who loved and cared for these beautiful babies.
