    Dear Z Fans:

    Racing is so unpredictable. Our Queen’s John won the 11th race at Del Mar today with Astronaut, ridden by Victor Espinoza at odds of 25 to 1.

    The race before that, he had Express Train at 7 to 2. Beautiful, talented boy finished out of the money. Hope he’s OK.

        Dear Marshall:

        So far so good. We did not lose power here, but about 80K outages have been reported in areas closer to the coastline.

        My nephew lost power quite a while ago. There were felled trees across the road where he lives. he’s close to the beaches. Crews working to restore.

    Guess you all heard about the receiving barn fire at Ellis Park. Thankfully, all the horses got out safely. One of them was the filly who had escaped earlier.

    Didn’t see that anyone mentioned that the 2 year old filly, Bold and Bossy, who was running on the highway was the only horse injured in the fire. She had burns on her back and shoulders. I couldn’t get it out of my mind and felt nearly sick about it. Hope she recovers from all the trauma she went through.

        I am happy to hear that Whitmore will recover, too.
        I have never seen anything like Firenze Fire today!! Why if he had not tried the biting strategy, he might have won the race! Scary!!

          Yikes, I just watched the Forego replay. Firenze Fire really didn’t like Youpon fighting him for the lead. He was determined to let him know it. Not funny though; dangerous.
          Glad everyone was safe in the end.

          Apparently, Firenze Fire was the victim of biting once in a previous race — perhaps something about Yaupon triggered a memory of that incident, who knows? Glad nobody got hurt though!
